The blind cut opens onto a wind-scoured shelf of black stone. Ahead, the ridge bends into a seam of snow, and beyond it the watcher lattice still glimmers faintly under the ice.
Kynes’s shadow-crows rise from the rocks in a low, restless cloud, then angle toward the hidden seam. Bren stays tight at his side, blade low, eyes fixed on the ridge.

Bren
If the lattice sees us now, it sees both of us.
The snow ahead stirs. White-clad watchers turn in place, and a violet pulse threads through the buried line, searching for the break Kynes made.

Kynes
The seam is still blind, but only if he keeps it quiet.
The shadow-crows wheel once, then dive toward the hidden route. Beneath them, the lattice shivers, unsure whether to lock onto the crows, Kynes, or the empty air between.
Bren shifts closer, ready to follow whatever Kynes chooses next, while the pass holds its breath and the watcher line waits for his decisive move.
“I lead Bren onto the blind seam”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Kynes rises from the black stone and takes the seam at a careful angle. Bren comes with him at his shoulder, blade still low, as the shadow-crows sink ahead into the pale drift.
They cross the blind cut without breaking stride. The watcher line above them holds its distance, its nearest head tilting once as the violet search loses their shape.
Beneath their boots, the buried lattice falters into broken glimmers, then thins. The snow no longer reads like a net, only like weather over stone.

Bren
There. It loses us.
Kynes leads her onward onto a lower shelf of wind-packed snow, where the ridge turns away from the watcher line and the path feels quieter.
Ahead, a sheltered notch opens between dark stone ribs. The old hum under the ice fades to a wary murmur, and the crows gather there first, waiting.

Bren
That looks like the next place to stop. I am with you.

Bren
We made the seam. They lost us.

Kynes
For now. Keep low, and stay where the snow lies clean.
Below them, the watcher lattice dimmed under wind and distance while the shadow-crows veered toward the sheltered notch ahead.
Kynes and Bren had slipped the High Pass unseen, leaving the lattice to comb an empty trail of snow. The crows rode the gusts ahead, and the pass behind them fell quiet at last. For this road, the danger was over, and the mountain kept their secret.
