The bridge hums under Kynes’s boots, then locks with a hard, final click. Ahead, the void-well churns like ink in a deep bowl, and the shadow-mark on his palm glows back at it, steady and cold.

Venom

Venom

It recognizes you. Take the next breath, and it learns your shape.

Bren moves up beside him, blade low, eyes on the dark pool and the collapsing ceiling above it. The architects’ pressure stirs in the walls, trying to turn the bridge, the mark, and Kynes himself.

Kynes channels the mark instead of resisting it. The glow tightens into a ring of command, and the void-presence recedes in a widening hush. The well answers, not as a threat, but as a gate opening to its heir.

The Architects

The Architects

Heir, yield. You are still written below us.

The warning strikes through the chamber, but Kynes holds the line. The bridge stays lit, the well stays open, and the choice becomes plain, master the ward now, or let the architects seize the opening and rewrite him first.

✓ Quest Accepted

Hold the void-well against the architects

Does the void-well recognize Kynes's authority because he is the legitimate Domini heir bearing Soul-Cutter, rather than because of the Architects' tether, Venom, or another outside influence?

YES (Likely, rolled 17)

The void-well pulses, its chaotic ink-black surface suddenly smoothing into a mirror that reflects not the chamber, but the crest of House Domini. The architects' red script, previously clawing at the edges of the pool, recoils as if burned by the sudden, absolute clarity of the blood-right.

Kynes

Kynes

It is not the mark or the tether. It is the lineage, the blade, and the weight of the name I carry.

Venom

Venom

It bows to the blood, not the shadow. You are the master here, little king.

I raise Soul-Cutter over the void-well and let the blood-right of House Domini answer through the blade. “Then hear me. By my blood, my name, and this blade, I revoke every claim the Architects hold over this foundation. Their tethers, commands, and right to write through this well end here. Nothing replaces their ownership. What is free remains free.”

Kynes lifts Soul-Cutter over the still well, and the crest in the mirror-water flares with ancient recognition. The dome around the chamber shudders, then goes oddly quiet.

The red script on the walls peels away into dead ash, as if stripped of authority by the blade's refusal. The void below holds steady.

A cold pressure presses back, but it finds no seam to enter. The well answers Kynes alone.

Venom

Venom

Good. Let the hungry names choke on their own silence.

Bren braces at his side, watching the mirror-dark surface settle into a calm, obedient sheen.

Bren

Bren

They are cut off. Keep it there, Kynes.

The chamber's tremor eases, but somewhere beyond the bridge, a dry crack echoes through the stone, as if the architects have felt the loss.

Hold the void-well against the architects

I cheak our wedding bands for any sort of parasite script that is hidden in them

Kynes lowers Soul-Cutter and turns his left hand under the chamber light. The wedding bands catch the mirror-sheen of the well, plain at first, then threaded with a thin, black shimmer only he can see.

Kynes

Kynes

There it is. Not on the surface.

He pinches the rings between two fingers and rolls them. A parasite script clings to the inner curve, tucked where skin and metal meet, feeding on the bond without breaking it.

The script recoils when he looks directly at it, then opens like an eye. A second line, hidden beneath the first, maps a reply from the well itself into the bands.

Bren steps closer, then freezes as the rings flash once. The same pulse answers from the calm water below, as if the well recognizes the wedding vow as a key.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, those are watching us. Pull them apart, or tell me what you want done with them.

The hidden advantage settles in his palm, clear and useful, the bands now showing a clean seam he can peel open later. Beneath the chamber, something in the dark shifts toward the new signal.

Break open the wedding bands

I telekineticlly unmake them the same way I made them prior

Kynes closes his fingers around the bands and sends a clean pulse through the metal. The black script jerks, unwinds, and lifts free in ragged threads.

Kynes

Kynes

A nested tether. Cheap work.

The threads peel away from the inner curve and thin to ash, leaving the gold bare and split by a faint seam.

Below the bridge, the well answers once, a soft throbbing ripple that runs across the mirror-surface and then steadies.

Bren

Bren

That did it. Whatever was listening through them just lost its grip.

The seam in the rings glints wider in the light, ready for Kynes’s hands, while the distant crack in the stone gives a low, dry tick.

Bren

Bren

But the chamber heard that. What do you do with the split now?
