The Bureaucracy of the VoidMagistrate’s district public hall
The Bureaucracy of the Void

The scattered orders from the struggle lie open on the cracked floor, and the courier’s red wax seal begins to weep a viscous black sheen. It threads between the papers like живid ink, matching the void-lattice scars crawling over the walls.

The seal is not just stamped, it is keyed.

Kynes leans in, and the residue answers his sight at once. The clerk’s mark is not a signature of service, it is a conduit, a living relay for the architects behind the district’s records.

Bren

Bren

So the clerks were not hiding the trap. They were part of it.

The portal rim behind them narrows with a brittle hiss. Bren shifts closer to Kynes, staff ready, while the bleeding seal stains the documents as if the whole bureaucracy is rotting from one poisoned node.

The answer lands clean and ugly. The district hall was never merely corrupt, it was built to deliver names, orders, and bodies into the architects’ hands.

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +2)

The Bureaucracy of the Void

Kynes plants his palm against the wall, and the void-scar under the plaster answers like a wounded vein. Black residue flows into him in a hard, cold rush, then vanishes, stripped clean from the stone.

Kynes

The wall is the reservoir.

The fractured floor groans. One seam after another opens beneath the hall, and the whole chamber gives a low, sinking lurch as if the district itself exhales and forgets how to hold shape.

Bren staggers, catches herself, and whips her head toward the doorway as dust rains from the cracked arch.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, the floor is going.

The courier’s seal splits with a wet snap. Inside the wax, a second mark flashes through the black sheen, then both vanish as the residue drains into the wall and the portal rim shrieks thinner.

Across the hall, the Second Enforcer hesitates at the tearing breach, half-turned as if the collapse has reached him before he can decide whether to run or hold.

Kynes stands in the center of the sinking hall with the stolen void power humming under his skin, and the ground answers by dropping harder beneath his boots.

I reenforce where me and Bren stand and put a telekinetic shield around us to shield from debris and I mentally pull the hall then the town down from it's foundation

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

The Bureaucracy of the Void

Kynes sinks his will into the stone under their boots, and the broken floor stiffens with a hard, invisible brace. Dust still falls, but the slab beneath him and Bren stops shuddering and holds.

A translucent shield blooms around them, tight as a second skin. Splinters of plaster strike it and skate away in glittering fragments.

The hall is giving up its bones.

Then Kynes drags at the hall itself. The sagging chamber lurches downward in answer, stone groaning through stone as the foundation below it begins to fail.

Across the breach, the Second Enforcer jerks back, his half-step frozen by the sudden drop. The portal rim tightens with a shrill, starving whine.

Bren

Bren

Keep it steady, Kynes. It is starting to go.

The ceiling spits a fresh shower of grit, but the shield holds. The hall settles into a deeper, uglier tilt, and the void-line beneath it opens wider toward the roots of the district.

I keep dragging the hall down

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

The Bureaucracy of the Void

Kynes keeps pulling, and the hall obeys. The brace in the stone holds long enough to make the whole chamber sag in one ugly breath, then the central span cracks under the strain.

A low boom rolls through the floor. The reinforced slab breaks loose, dropping a section of the public hall into the void beneath while the portal rim shrinks with a panicked hiss.

Bren

Bren

There. That is the break point.

The Second Enforcer stumbles hard at the edge, thrown off balance by the sudden sink. The scorched map in his hand flutters, and red light from the breach paints his face with fear.

The Second Enforcer

The Second Enforcer

No, not this way.

The hall’s collapse drags the hidden conduit into view for a heartbeat, a dark seam under the fallen stone where the bureaucracy runs straight into the void.

Dust blinds the room. Somewhere below, the foundation keeps cracking, and the portal gives one thin, starving whine as if something on the other side notices Kynes back.
