Kynes and Bren slip into the sheltered grotto, leaving the pass’s violet hum muffled behind thick icicles. The stone is cold, but the still air feels almost warm by comparison.
Bren lowers her hood and shakes snow from her hair. Her gaze stays on Kynes, patient and steady, waiting for him to choose the next step.

Kynes
The glow outside is quieter here.

Bren
For a moment, this is enough. Tell me if you want to move on, or if you need the silence first.
Kynes settles the staff against the rock and lets the cave hold them both. The faint violet wash at the fissure mouth dims to a distant shimmer, no longer pressing in.

Bren
You do not have to carry the whole road alone, Kynes. I can stay with you here, and listen.

“"We stay for a moment, I need to work somethings out first" I tell her”
Kynes gives Bren a small nod and stays with the stone, letting the grotto keep its hush. The violet glow outside thins to a faint pulse beneath the snow, and Bren eases down beside him, willing the silence to do its work.

Kynes
We stay for a moment. I need to work some things out first.

Bren
Then I will stay. Take the time you need, Kynes.

Bren
His shoulders are still carrying the road, but he is here with me now. That is enough for this breath.
“I draw a gran arcane and start a chant of making, I meditate to see if 1) there is anything that attached to me and Bren, and to remove it and 2) if there is a way to keep the tethers off. And 3) how to escape or disrupt the lattice network permanently.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +2)

Kynes raises a gran arcane between his hands, and the grotto answers with a thin, clean ring. The staff rests across his knees, the snow at the fissure edge stays still, and the violet glow outside seems to shrink back from the sound.

Kynes
There is something tied to us, and I can feel where it sits.
His chant settles into the stone. A faint thread shows first from his shadow hand, then another from Bren’s sleeve, both pinched tight by the same low lattice beyond the pass.
Kynes turns the making on the threads, and they peel free in dull violet flakes. The residue breaks apart before it can cling, and the air between them feels lighter.

Bren
That is better. I can breathe without feeling watched.
The chant deepens again, and the blind spot settles over the grotto like a soft veil. Kynes senses the old network outside, thin as webbing, with its paths buckling where his magic presses against them.
He finds the shape of it at last, the way to keep it off, not by pushing harder, but by leaving his own weave quiet and unreadable. The remaining violet pulse under the snow dims, confused and divided.

Bren
Then we do not step back into their lines. We make our own quiet route.

Gran arcane
“I create my own weave made shadow and my own touch of the void to use as a shield to block and disrupt the ways they scan”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)

Kynes lets the last note of the chant fall away, then folds shadow inward around his hands. The dark gathers cleanly, thin as smoke but tight as a veil, and a second edge of void settles behind it like a silent brace.

Kynes
The weave holds.
He turns the new pattern toward the fissure, and the grotto dims by a shade. Outside, the violet lines under the snow flicker, then lose their straight read as if they have struck a blind wall.

Bren
That works. They cannot get a clean look through that.
Kynes threads the shield wider, linking it to his own quiet pulse and the old blind spot in the stone. The void-dark does not flare, it simply sits there, unreadable, and the scan outside skews away into broken branches.

Bren
Then we move while it is lost.
Bren rises from her kneel and steps in beside him, shoulder close to shoulder. Her hand touches his sleeve once, brief and steady, and she keeps it there as the distant pulse fades into confusion.

“I also take a large portion of my energy from the shadow fell, and turn the into crows that are able to sence the lattice net work more as an alarm system that the lattice is near by. And if the crows are harmed by an outside force they double in number.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Kynes lets the void-brace sink deeper, then pulls a larger share of shadow into his palms. The dark peels free in a loose flock of crow-shapes, each one stitched from silent edges and half-light.

Kynes
The weave takes.
The crows fan out through the grotto mouth, then vanish into the snow-bright air beyond. Their forms skim low over the broken violet lines, and the lattice near the ridge answers with a faint, warning shiver.
Bren watches the flock disappear, her shoulders easing as the first alert comes back through them. The crows turn their heads at once toward the same buried pulse.

Bren
Good. They feel it before we do.
A sharp gust snaps at one crow as it crosses the drift. It breaks, then doubles into two darker shapes, both wheeling back on the same unseen line.
Bren looks from the multiplying flock to Kynes, then gives a short, approving nod. The blind spot holds, the route ahead stays unreadable, and their quiet path finally has eyes.
“I smile. " Time has come to make my own network" We leave the grotto and fallow a path of avoidance played out by the crows”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Kynes lets the last crows wheel the decision for him, then slips Bren after them, low and quiet through the grotto mouth. The snow outside swallows their footprints almost at once.

Kynes
Time has come to make my own network.
The flock skims the drift in a broken arc, not toward the wayhouse, but away from its clean line of sight. Bren moves in close at Kynes’s shoulder, keeping pace without a word.
A violet pulse flickers under the snow to their right, then fades as the crows pull the route into shadowed hollows and wind-scoured dips.

Bren
This path is ugly, but it hides us better.
One crow splits on a gust, then the pair veer together around a buried rise, leading Kynes and Bren onto a lower shelf of rock where the light cannot settle.
Behind them, the grotto mouth narrows to a dark cut in the ridge. Ahead, the crows gather over a shallow hollow and sink into it like spilled ink, marking a new hiding place at the edge of the pass.
