The wind hammers through the quarry road pass, but the worst of the storm stays above the ridgeline. Kynes and Bren slow their pace, shoulders nearly brushing as they climb a sheltered bend in the stone.
Bren stops and tightens a strap on her pack. She glances back at the ruined watchtower far behind them, its broken silhouette barely visible through the haze.

Bren
Do you באמת think we can cut House Xar loose without becoming the sort of thing we hunt?
The question hangs between them. Below, the road curves onward, quiet except for grit shifting under their boots and the low complaint of the wind.
Bren’s hand lingers on her gear buckle after she finishes adjusting it. Her posture is guarded, but not closed off, like she expects an answer and has room to hear one.

Kynes
The seal is warm at his side.
For a moment, the two of them simply stand there, facing the road ahead, with the tower behind them and the next mile still unwritten.
“He looks over at Bren. "If I ever become what we hunt..." A small smile. "You'll probably be the first to tell me." Then, after a beat: "And if you don't..." He shrugs. "Then I chose the wrong companion."”

Kynes turns fully toward Bren, the wind tugging at his cloak as the road keeps its silence around them.

Kynes
If I ever become what we hunt...

Kynes
You'll probably be the first to tell me.

Bren
Her mouth softens at the corner, and she studies him like she is weighing the answer against her own nerves.

Kynes
And if you don't...

Kynes
Then I chose the wrong companion.

Bren
Bren lets out a low breath, then nods once. "Good. Then I will."

“Can I tell the time of day. I.e. is the sun out”
YES (Likely, rolled 25)

Kynes glances upward, past the jagged ridge of the quarry pass, where the heavy clouds finally break to reveal the pale, golden light of the afternoon sun.

Kynes
The sun is still high. We have more time than I thought.
“" let's get going then before we burn day light"”
