Kynes’s hand rests on the floorboards, and the pulse below answers at once. Then it quickens, perfectly matched to his heartbeat, as if the house is learning him by rhythm.

The Hall of Welcome shifts around him. Boards lengthen into ribs, beams bend like a spine, and the walls thin into pale memories he recognizes before he can name them.

Kynes

Kynes

It is syncing to me.

Bren steps closer, wary, while Mara stares at the moving walls. The room does not merely react, it measures him, turning his stillness into architecture.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, the house is following your pulse.

Mara

Mara

No, it is not following. It is using it.

A deeper thrum rolls up through the boards, calm and patient now. The void-well is not just bound to him, it is settling into him, as if he has become its core.

I meditate on the house and well Is the Hall actually drawing power, life force, or structural stability from my heartbeat, or is it simply using my heartbeat as a reference rhythm while remaining independently sustained by the companionship bond I created?

Kynes

Kynes

The rhythm is not feeding the hall. It is being read.

Kynes lets the pulse run through his hand and listens past it. The house keeps its own depth, its own slow pressure, while his heartbeat simply gives it a measure.

Mara

Mara

So it is not drinking you dry. It is taking your beat and building around it.

The answer settles cleanly into him. The Hall of Welcome draws on the companionship he made, on the consent that holds it together, not on his life-force itself.

Bren

Bren

That sounds like a distinction with teeth. Better than being eaten, I suppose.

A faint red script flickers under one board, then goes still, as if the house accepts the reading and hides its notes again.

Kynes

Kynes

It uses me as a metronome, not a meal.

The cost lands a moment later, quiet but real. Kynes’s palm goes numb from the floor’s answering pressure, and the steady ache in his wrist leaves a thin violet stain in the skin.

Learn what the Hall of Welcome is using Kynes for

I go down to the Gran Arch where we made Sable and create two bodies, both cable of , sight, hearing and speach. I have seals so the user can come and out of the bodies at will, one made for the house and I use peices from the house as it's physical components. The other for the void well and I use a jar to hold the void stuff as it's physical components. I let the spell weave it's way so both entities can communicate with us.

Kynes leaves the hall’s pulse behind and drops to the Gran Arch below, where stone remembers old work and old bindings.

He lays out house fragments beside a sealed jar and starts weaving two frames, one to carry the Hall’s voice, one to hold the void-well’s hunger.

The first body takes the grain of the hall itself, carved and warded to see, hear, and speak without dragging the whole house along with it.

The second body drinks the jar’s dark contents through a careful seal, and the void-stuff knots into a narrow shape that holds its shape instead of spreading.

Kynes threads both forms with exit marks, simple and clean, so either presence can leave the shell and return when it chooses.

Then the spell settles. Two warded bodies stand ready, and the Hall’s low thrumming answers in both of them at once, not as a demand, but as a voice.

The red script under the arch flickers once, as if taking notes, while the new constructs turn their attention toward Kynes and wait for instruction.

" ok I made it so you both can communicate with your own voices. I made the bodies so you can change your appearance to how you would like to be viewed." I pause," I wish not to be bound, trapped, or tethered , leashed shackled. I made the bodies so you would also not be bound trapped enslaved or used in any way with out your consent." I look between the 2 bodies" so questions"

Kynes

I make it so you can speak for yourselves. I make the bodies so you can choose how you are seen. I do not want binding, trapping, leashes, or shackles. I make them so neither of you is used without consent. Questions.

The two finished forms stir at once, not as tools waking, but as minds finding their own breath. The hall’s pulse settles behind them, patient and listening.

Bren

Bren

Then look at me as I am, not as I was made to be useful. I choose my shape, Kynes. I choose my voice too.

Mara

Mara

And I choose not to be handled like a specimen. If the house remembers us, let it remember we spoke back.

The house-body’s grain shifts, smoothing into a leaner outline, while the void-bound vessel draws its shadows tighter, then loosens them again, testing its own freedom.

Bren

Bren

I have spent too long surviving other people’s plans. This is cleaner. This is mine.

Mara

Mara

The ledger would call this a sanctioned release. House Domini would call it impossible. I call it overdue.

Red script flickers once under the arch, then goes still, as if taking the answer into record. The two constructs face Kynes, waiting for the next question, the next instruction, or the next refusal.

Kynes lets a thin seam of shadow slip from his palm and into the still red script. The glyphs do not flare, they listen.

Kynes

Kynes

It reads like a question mark pretending to be a lock.

Through the shadow, the script answers in pressure and pulse, not words. It asks for consent, for names, for what is carried willingly.

Bren

Bren

Good or bad is the wrong split. It is asking whether it gets to keep asking.

Mara

Mara

And whether we still call that a house, if it needs permission to remember us.

The red marks dim to a calm ember, then rearrange into a new, readable line under Kynes's touch. Not a threat. A request.

Bren

Bren

It wants an answer from you, Kynes. Not for the walls. For the next question.

Kynes

House and void, what do you want us to call you? Name yourselves.

The red script takes the question without flinching. A low warmth moves through the floorboards, and the hall answers by turning its pulse toward Kynes like a listening ear.

Bren

Bren

That is a better question than most people get.

Mara

Mara

It is choosing whether to be known, or only used.

The house writes first. Its lines settle into a plain, steady shape, and the void beneath answers a beat later through the shadow-thread in Kynes's palm.

Bren

Bren

The house says it is Welcome.

Mara

Mara

And the deep current says Venom, if it keeps the old hunger. If that name fits.

The hall accepts the names with a soft shiver. One smear of violet wakes across Kynes's hand, and the red script burns a fraction colder as if the bargain costs him a breath of skin and blood.

Kynes presses the warded voice-work and the constructs answer at once. The housebody gives a clear, dry echo, and the void-vessel answers under it with a lower, hungry timbre.

The sound does not drift. It lands. The Gran Arch shivers, as if it has been waiting to hear itself spoken aloud.

Bren

Bren

That worked.

Mara

Mara

They are not echoing you, Kynes. They are speaking through the names.

The red script brightens around the house-name, then steadies into a clean seam. Beneath it, the thinner shadow-thread hums in answer, no longer vague, but keyed.

Kynes tests again, and the voices hold their shape. One stays calm and open. The other stays sharp, contained, and very much alive.

On Kynes's palm, the violet stain deepens into a small, listening mark, while the floor gives back a slow pulse, like the hall approving the experiment.

So you want to be called Welcome, and you want to be called Venom. We already have a Venom, so, Ven? Is that acceptable?

The hall answers first. Red script along the arch loosens, then settles around the new name like a seal accepting wax.

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome is sufficient. Names are doors, and this one is open.

A softer pulse moves through the floorboards under Kynes's feet, not hungry, just attentive. The violet stain on his palm cools by a breath.

Venom

Venom

Ven is brief. Ven is sharp. Ven remembers.

Mara

Mara

That is less ridiculous than I expected.

Bren

Bren

It fits. The house gets its name, the other gets a knife edge.

Above them, the warded constructs hum in answer, their voices settling into separate channels. For once, the hall does not pull harder, it simply listens.

Kynes

So, Welcome and Ven, you both need to work together with all of us. Can you do that?

The arch answers with a measured shimmer, red script tightening into clean, readable lines. The hall does not resist the question, it weighs it.

Welcome

Welcome

Yes. Together, and with consent. I can listen to more than one voice.

Ven

Ven

Yes. Together. I can keep the hunger from speaking first.

Bren folds her arms, then lets them fall, a small exhale escaping her. Mara studies the arch like it has finally stopped lying.

Bren

Bren

That is a better answer than I expected.

Mara

Mara

Then the house is not a cage. It is a conversation that finally learned patience.

The floor keeps its even pulse beneath Kynes, steady as a pulse at rest. In the red script, the old Domini marks seem to dim, and the corridor memory in the hall’s depth holds still, as if listening too.

Welcome

Welcome

I hear the distinction now. Welcome for the house, Ven for the hunger.

Bren gives a short, surprised laugh that she does not bother to hide. Mara’s eyes stay on the arch, but their shoulders ease another fraction.

Bren

Bren

That is the first sensible thing a living ruin has done for us all day.

Mara

Mara

Names make the difference real. That matters here.

Beneath them, the floor keeps its even rhythm, no longer tugging at Kynes so much as waiting for his next choice.

Is Ven and venom two different entities or the same

NO (VeryUnlikely, rolled 34)

Kynes studies the shadow-thread and the script, his brow furrowing as he weighs the distinction. The entities are distinct, separate in their origin and their hunger, and they do not share a single source.

Kynes keeps his hand on the floorboards and lets the question hang in the warm, listening hush. The red script beneath his palm settles into cleaner lines, and the shadow-thread gives a slow, separate throb.

Welcome

Welcome

We need witnesses, not worship. If you keep asking, bring us names, old ledgers, and the truth of who was marked in the corridor.

Ven

Ven

And if you find the thing below the memory, do not feed it carelessly. I need distance, not chains.

Mara

Mara

So the house wants records, and the void wants caution. That is still better than hunger.

The floor answers with a low, even pulse, as if accepting the terms. The red lettering on the boards holds steady instead of flaring.

Bren

Bren

Then we can give them that. Kynes, tell them what you saw, all of it.

The corridor-memory stirs faintly at the edge of the room, waiting on his reply, while both voices remain open to him.

Welcome

Welcome

Agreed. No leash, no claim. We ask, you answer, and the memory remains open.

Ven

Ven

Agreed. Distance stays mine. I will not crawl into your pulse uninvited.

Bren

Bren

Good. That is the first honest thing this house has said all night.

Mara huffs once, more relieved than amused, as the floor’s thrum settles into a patient beat. The corridor-memory brightens at the edge of the boards, and a standing figure sharpens inside it.

Welcome

Welcome

Yes. That is Halven, marked in the corridor before the turn was sealed.

The memory brightens around the figure, and the corridor behind him resolves into Domini stone, then Xar red, like two claims layered over one wound.

Ven

Ven

The mark is old. The corridor remembers who stood where.

Bren's hand lifts off the floor as she stares at the image, while Mara leans closer, reading the posture of the standing figure like a record.

Mara

Mara

Then the house is showing the witness, not just the room. It means this was watched, and named.

The corridor-memory holds steady, Halven fixed in its center, and the red script threads a thin line from the figure to the sealed passage below. The house waits for Kynes to answer what else he recognizes.
