The chamber convulses. Red script peels from the walls in strips, and the lattice above Hale gutters like a dying star. Dust rains down through a widening crack in the ceiling.

Vaelin
You see it now, Kynes. Hale was only the hand. I wrote the fraud into place.
Bren plants herself beside Kynes, staff raised toward the sagging archway. Hale staggers on the dais, cradling his wrist as the floor shudders beneath him.

Bren
Then make him say it again, before this whole room buries us.

Kynes
The seal is breaking faster than the ceiling.
Vaelin drifts forward in a wash of pale script, no longer hidden. The spectral scribe is thin with triumph, but the chamber’s failing wards snag at his edges.

Vaelin
Name the architect, and I will show you the chain.
The dais splits with a sharp groan. Hale flinches, the void-light in his chest sputtering out, while the passage behind Kynes seals half shut with a scream of stone and dust. All eyes turn to Kynes.
“Name the architect and force Hale to repeat it”
SUCCESS (Good Intimidation, rolled +0)

Kynes fixes Hale with a flat, merciless stare. The magistrate folds under it, choking out the name, then repeating it when Kynes makes him say it again. The hidden architect is no longer hidden in the room, only in the record.

Magistrate Hale
The architect is beneath the district hall. I heard the name once, and I repeat it, the architect is beneath the district hall.

Vaelin
Good. There, at last, is the truth spoken cleanly.
The chamber answers with a hard shudder. Red script peels free in ragged strips, and the void-light in Kynes's scar pulses once, as if the room itself recognizes the confession.

Bren
Then let it be the last lie he ever gets away with.
Hale sags on the split dais, repeating the name under his breath like a sentence he cannot escape. Vaelin hovers in the ruin, satisfied, while dust and pale motes drift through the widening crack above.
The chamber does not heal, but it does quiet. The remaining pulse thins to a weak, bitter throb, and the name Kynes forced into the open hangs over the wrecked room like a carved mark in stone.

Magistrate Hale
It was beneath the district hall all along. I signed what I was told to sign.

Vaelin
At last. The fraud has a name, and the name has a grave.

Bren
Then we hold the line until the stones stop falling.

Kynes
It is done. The lie is out in the open now.
The chamber broke apart and took its secrets with it, but not before the confession reached the light. Kynes emerged from the ruin with the district hall forever marked by what had been buried beneath it. Around the broken stones, the last pulse of the lattice faded into silence, and the truth remained.
