Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Smoke rolls over the quay as the burning ledger dies in the ash. The town bells hammer the air, and the merchant lane across the river terrace answers with slammed shutters and running feet.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, look. The count house is lit from within. They know who did this.

A wagon of guild marks sits half-unloaded by the pier, and the magistrate’s seal lies blackened near Kynes’s boots. Beyond the smoke, lanterns gather at the terrace road, moving in a tight, armed line.

Kynes

Kynes

They are coming from the counting house.

The Merchant

The Merchant

Seize him! He sets fire to records, to docks, to the whole harbor!

The guild’s lead men push through the haze, faces wrapped against the heat, with cudgels and dockhooks raised. Bren plants herself beside Kynes, while the river wind carries the stink of pitch and scorched timber toward the terrace.

Above the shouting, the counting house lanterns flicker in a pattern Kynes recognizes, a signal, not a warning. The merchant guild is not just reacting now, it is answering the fraud with force, and the road to the architects opens through their hands.

✓ Quest Accepted

Contain the fire on the quay

I cast fireballs at everyone and everything but bren

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -2)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Kynes throws the spell wide and low, bending it around Bren like water around stone. Fire blossoms across the guild line, catching cudgels, rope coils, and the front of the lead wagon in a hard orange flash.

The Merchant

The Merchant

Back! Burn him down! Burn him down!

The first rank breaks, coughing and stumbling through sparks. One man drops his dockhook into the shallows, another slaps at his sleeves as flame races the pitch on the planks.

Kynes

Kynes

The line is broken.

A second blast tears the air, scorching the quay posts and forcing the guild men apart, but the heat lashes back. The nearest pilings crack, and the fire leaps into the rigging above the moored barge.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, the dock is going! The waterline, now!

Guild lanterns swing wildly through the smoke as the armed line reels, exposed and shouting. Kynes keeps Bren clear, but the blaze eats another span of timber and sends a sheet of sparks toward the terrace road.

I telekineticlly start snapping necks to everyone but Bren...

SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +2)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Kynes tightens his grip on the air itself, and the guild line goes slack. Two men drop at once, their bodies folding silent into the smoke.

A third guild man jerks sideways, fingers clawing at nothing, then crumples against the wagon wheel. Bren flinches back from the sudden stillness.

The Merchant

The Merchant

No, no, get away from him!

The cry comes too late. Another man in the rear rank seizes up and drops among the burning ropes, while the front line breaks apart in panic.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, enough, the fire is climbing!

Smoke thickens over the quay as the rigging hisses overhead. The guild men recoil from Kynes now, not the flames, and the merchant stares at the bodies with naked horror.

Beyond them, the blaze keeps eating toward the terrace road, unchecked and hungry, while the remaining men hesitate between fleeing and fighting.

I telekineticlly snap The Merchants neck

SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +2)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Kynes closes his fist in the air. The merchant’s head snaps sideways, then hangs wrong as his knees fold under him.

He drops beside the wagon wheel without a sound. The men nearest him recoil hard enough to stumble into the smoke.

The Merchant

The Merchant

No...

Bren

Bren

Kynes, the road. The fire is on the road.

The guild line breaks. One man throws down his hook and runs for the quay edge, while another stares at the body, frozen by fear.

Above them, the rigging catches harder, and a sheet of flame licks toward the terrace path beyond the smoke.

The merchant’s dropped seal flashes once in the ash near his hand, red against the blackened planks.

I increase the size of the fire and help it spread

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Kynes lifts his staff and the flames answer. Heat blossoms along the tarred planks, climbing the rigging in a hungry wave.

The fire jumps the gap to a stack of rope and canvas, then tears into the terrace edge with a roaring crackle.

Bren

Bren

That is not containment, Kynes. Move, before it takes the road.

Smoke rolls low over the quay. The guild men retreat in a broken line, leaving the burning wagon and the dead merchant behind.

The magistrate’s dropped seal spits red once in the ash, then vanishes beneath drifting sparks.

Ahead, the terrace road lights at the edge, the blaze now broad enough to feed on dry timber and panic alike.

Bren

Bren

We are not saving the dock. Pick a side, or the town gets both.

" Bren love , the town gets flame this I have chosen" I wrap her in my sea of darkness we fly well above the town and I increase the spell a hundred fold"

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay
Kynes

Kynes

Bren, if the town burns, it burns. I choose this.

Kynes sweeps his staff wide. Darkness pours up around Bren like a cloak, then lifts them both from the quay in a single wrenching surge.

Above the smoke, his spell swells hard and bright. The fire below answers at once, flattening into a vast sheet that races over rope, timber, and roofline.

Bren clutches at him in the air, staring down as the terrace road catches in glowing ribbons beneath them.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, look at it. There is no stopping that now.

Far below, the merchant guild’s last runners scatter into the alleys. The magistrate’s dropped seal flashes once in the ash, then is swallowed by the blaze.

For a breath, the town hangs under them in red-orange light, the quay, the road, and the counting house all licking into one hungry furnace.

Bren

Bren

Then choose what survives, because the fire has chosen the rest.

" I have chosen. That is why you're with me"

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay
Kynes

Kynes

I have chosen. That is why you are with me.

Bren

Bren

Then I stay.

Bren

Bren

Her grip eases, but she does not look away from the fire.

The wind tears smoke between them as Kynes keeps her aloft, and Bren shifts closer, trusting the hold instead of fighting it.

Bren

Bren

If the town remembers this, let it remember who stood beside you.

Bren

Bren

Not the flames. Not the guild. You.

Below, the quay burns on, but their balance in the air steadies into something almost calm.

Bren

Bren

When you set me down, tell me where we go from the ash.

I increase the fire until it burns it self out

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Confrontation on the Burning Quay

Kynes tightens the spell instead of hurling more fuel at it, and the blaze answers like a beast at the end of its rope. The flames climb high, then thin, chewing through dry rope, tar, and splintered planks all at once.

Smoke billows hard, then the fire starts to starve. The hottest tongues collapse inward, leaving a harsh red core that gutters through the quay timbers.

Bren

Bren

It is burning itself clean.

Below them, the terrace road falls quiet under the ash haze. The counting house roof still smolders, but the spread stops at the blackened edge of the dock.

Bren

Bren

That is enough. Set us down before the wind changes its mind.

The last flare snaps from the rigging and dies. What remains is a ring of char, cracked stone, and drifting ash, not a living wall of fire.
