Grey ash peels from the chamber walls in slow sheets, and the raw void beneath the foundation breathes up cold pressure. Bren plants herself at the failing seam, both hands lit with strained magic as the stone shudders around her.

The Entity’s shadow coils near the breach, drawn to the opening like smoke to a flame. The chamber answers with a hungry thrum, testing for weakness in Kynes’s name.

Bren grits her teeth and forces the floor plates level for one more heartbeat. Kynes threads his will through the lattice pattern, not to feed the chamber, but to bind it shut around the void.

The new field catches, a thin web of violet light stretched over the abyss. The Entity recoils, but the seal still trembles, and Kynes sees the cost clearly, victory here means claiming the chamber before it claims his identity.

Kynes drives his known name into the lattice, wordless and absolute. The violet field tightens, and the hunger in the stone stutters as if it has been misread.

The black mist at the breach thins, pulled inward through the glowing weave instead of outward into the chamber. Bren’s hands shake, but she keeps the floor level while the pressure turns.

The Entity recoils in a ribbon of vapor, cold displeasure sharpening its drift. Its reach finds no purchase, only a sealed pattern answering to Kynes alone.

Then the void quiets. The web closes over the abyss, the seam seals into hard stone, and the chamber falls into a listening stillness.
