The Domini saga

The severance pedestal thrums like a wound in stone. Kynes reaches in, and the House Xar graft answers with a shriek of violet light.

Bren lunges at the threshold, blades flashing as debris rains down. She knocks aside a falling slab just as a pulse of crackling force tears past her shoulder.

Kynes drives his staff into the pedestal’s seam and twists his blood-mark against the hidden lock. The discordant hum surges, then stutters, as if the vault itself flinches.

Across the chamber, the defensive beams swing wider and faster, scraping stone to sparks. The floor splits beneath the dais, but the graft’s core opens for one breath, bare and exposed.

A final pressure builds in the air, ready to crush the chamber. If Kynes lands the severance now, House Xar loses its tether. If he hesitates, the vault takes the whole room with it.

Kynes finds the seam and drives the cut through the graft’s exposed heart. Violet light snaps inward, then tears apart under his hand.

The House Xar script peels away in ribbons of red-black ash, leaving the older Domini workings intact beneath it, steady and unclaimed.

The chamber shudders, but the pressure in the air breaks. The defensive beams falter and drift off their line.

A buried alarm folds back into the stone with a dull throb, muffled and distant now, no longer reaching for Kynes.

Bren lowers her blades a fraction, staring at the severed core as dust spills from the cracked dais.

The severance pedestal goes dark except for a thin, clean pulse of Domini light. The collapse still groans around them, and the open way deeper into the vault waits in the shaking dark.
