Scene227
The Vault Recognizes Its BearerHall of Welcome
The Vault Recognizes Its Bearer

Kynes steps onto the last span of crystal. Ahead, the aperture throbs open like a living eye, and the House Xar seal snaps bright violet, trying to bar him out.

The bridge answers his heartbeat instead of the seal. Light runs beneath his boots, and the vault’s rhythm starts to match him, one pulse at a time.

Bren

Bren

It is taking your measure. Hurry, before Xar rewrites the gate.

Kynes reaches the threshold, and the violet script claws at the air around his palm. The seal hammers against his claim, but the aperture does not close. It waits.

Kynes

Kynes

The lock recognizes my blood, not House Xar.

Then the bridge locks into a steady pulse beneath him, and the seal flickers. The vault is choosing a bearer, while Xar tries to turn that choice into a cage.

✓ Quest Accepted

Claim the vault’s access as bearer of the heartbeat key

" soooo is the House Xar seal exercising current authority over the vault, or is it an obsolete command attempting to override the vault's recognition of me?” I ask them add " how many final encryptions does this have. I count 5"

SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled -1)

The Vault Recognizes Its Bearer
Kynes

Kynes

So, is the House Xar seal still acting with authority here, or is it just an old command trying to override the vault's recognition of me? And how many final encryptions does this thing have, five?

Bren

Bren

It is losing authority. The vault is answering you, not Xar. I count five locks in the pattern, but only one is still resisting.

The violet seal jitters, then fractures into five nested lines of script, each one briefly flaring as the crystal under Kynes's feet keeps time with his pulse.

The ledger in its clay cradle gives a faint, steady pulse, and one line of Xar script gutters out as if starved.

Bren

Bren

There, see that? The outer commands are dead weight. The inner one is still trying to name you a trespasser.

Kynes

Kynes

Five encryptions. Four already failing. The vault is reading the heartbeat, not the seal.

The aperture opens wider instead of shutting, and the House Xar mark recoils into a thin, flickering ring around the threshold.

The vault’s rhythm settles cleanly around Kynes, while the last violet encryption hangs open, waiting for a choice.

" soooo is the House Xar seal exercising current authority over the vault, or is it an obsolete command attempting to override the vault's recognition of me?” I ask them add " how many final encryptions does this have. I count 5"

SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled -1)

The last violet line twitches, then unwraps itself into Domini script. The vault does not slam shut. It listens.

Kynes

Kynes

So the House Xar seal is not really in charge here. It is an old command trying to muscle past the vault’s recognition of me. Five final encryptions, right?

Bren

Bren

Yes. Four are already dying. The fifth is the only one still naming you as trespasser.

The ledger answers with a faint pulse in the clay cradle, and the bridge under Kynes’s feet keeps the same hard, steady rhythm as his heart.

Kynes

Kynes

Then count it with me. Four dead, one stubborn.

The remaining script loosens instead of hardening. Its violet edges dim, and fresh lines bloom through the vault wall, overlaying Xar’s claim with living, geometric Domini text.

Bren

Bren

Look. It is rewriting the threshold around you. The vault is choosing your pulse over their seal.

The final encryption does not vanish. It yields, slotting into the vault’s rhythm like a latch finally finding its matching key.
