A month of salt wind has rubbed the world clean. Kynes stands on a cliff overlook above the dark water, the sea breathing below like a patient beast.

Bren leads him to the edge and then stops, letting the hush gather around them. Her cloak stirs once in the wind, then settles.

She glances sidelong at him, the weariness in her face softened by relief. "No Ledger here," she says. "Just us, for a while."

The cliff is cold, but the air feels honest.

Bren

You keep carrying everything like it will break if you set it down. I want this moment, Kynes, before the house steals it back.

She reaches for his hand, not to test it, only to hold it. The salt light catches in her eyes as she waits, steady and unafraid.

Bren

Bren

Tell me what you want here, on this cliff.

" you , preferably with less clothes" I pull her in and deeply kiss her

Kynes closes the distance and draws Bren in against the wind. Her breath catches, then steadies as she leans into him, one hand still laced with his, the other sliding to his shoulder.

Kynes

Kynes

You. Preferably with less armor between us.

Bren huffs a small, startled laugh, then tips her face up. The sea spray beads on her lashes as she meets him halfway, unguarded at last.

Their kiss lands deep and certain, salt and cold and something warmer under it. Her fingers tighten at his wrist like she is refusing the cliff, the house, and every distant pull that wants him back.

Bren

Bren

If I do not say it now, I will keep swallowing it until it turns hard.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, I need to tell you something I have been hiding. I am afraid this life makes home out of a wound, and that one day I will wake up beside a door instead of a person.

The words hang between them, raw against the surf. Behind Bren, a faint violet shimmer trembles on the cliff stone like a memory that refuses to die, but she does not look away.

Tell Bren what Kynes wants here

“Then we stop making wounds into homes. We already have a home. And when something comes knocking, we deal with it and come back to each other.” I tell her planly

Bren

Kynes keeps her in his grasp, but his voice turns flat and certain. He does not promise safety by pretending trouble will vanish. He names the shape of it, then names the answer.

Then we stop making wounds into homes. We already have one. If something comes knocking, we deal with it, and we come back to each other.

Bren’s shoulders loosen. The fear does not leave her face, but it stops hardening into distance. The sea wind tugs at her hair as she searches his eyes, measuring the words and finding they hold.

Bren

Bren

You say it like a plan. That helps more than you know.

The faint violet shimmer behind her flickers once against the cliff stone, then settles into a weak, watchful gleam. Bren’s hand slides from his shoulder to his chest, feeling the steady beat there as if it is proof.

Bren

Bren

I have been afraid that I would start loving a place more than the person in it. Afraid I would call that peace, and lose you anyway.

Kynes answers by drawing her closer, not tighter, just enough to make the cliff feel less like an edge. Bren exhales against him, and the guarded line in her mouth breaks into something smaller and truer.

Bren

Bren

If this is home, then let it be a home that waits for us both to return.

Well to be fair I seen you in a dress and it suits you better then armor.

Kynes

Well, to be fair, I seen you in a dress, and it suits you better than armor.

The words land plain and warm in the salt wind. Bren blinks, then a shaky laugh escapes her, brief as surf against stone.

Bren

Bren

You make that sound like a battlefield report.

She looks down at herself, then back up at Kynes, the tension in her mouth loosening by degrees. The violet flicker on the cliff behind her gives one small, watchful pulse.

Bren

Bren

Armor keeps me ready. Dresses make me feel seen. That is not the same thing.

Bren’s fingers brush the front of her dress, then fall away. Her voice comes quieter, honest enough to sting.

Bren

Bren

I keep thinking if I settle too hard into one place, I will start guarding the place more than I guard you.

The confession hangs between them with the sea spray. Bren meets his eyes, not retreating now, but waiting to see if the truth changes anything.

And I know armor keeps you ready, but sometimes I like you to be seen

Kynes

And I know armor keeps you ready, but sometimes I like you to be seen.

The wind worries at the cliff edge and carries his words cleanly to her. Bren goes still, then her shoulders soften, as if the sentence finds an old bruise and lets it breathe.

Bren

Bren

Seen, not used. Not measured. Just... here.

Bren

Bren

That is a dangerous kindness, Kynes.

She huffs a small laugh, then looks past him toward the sea, not hiding the shine in her eyes. The violet gleam on the stone behind her stays dim and watchful.

Bren

Bren

I keep thinking if I become only the blade at your back, then one day I will forget the rest of me.

The confession lands between the gull cries and the surf, plain and unarmored. A faint dark tendril stirs near Kynes's hand, then settles, as if even the shadow listens.

Bren

Bren

I do not want to be your guard first and a woman second.

She turns back to him, chin lifted, vulnerable and steady at once. The cliff stays silent, waiting for what he makes of that truth.

Kynes

I need you, not just want you. I need you.

The words come out rough, but they land clean. Bren’s breath catches, and the wind seems to pause at the cliff edge.

Bren

Bren

Needed, not kept. That is different.

Bren

Bren

Then I am here by choice, and by yours. Not as a blade on a leash.

She steps closer, one hand lifting toward his wrist, then stopping short, asking without touching.

Bren

Bren

What part of me are you asking for, Kynes, the guard, the woman, or the one who stays when the dark starts talking?

The dark tendril near his hand stirs once, thin as smoke. Behind them, the violet gleam on the stone holds steady, watchful and cold.
