The vault answers Kynes’s touch at once. The clawed trail he has been following surges from the stone, bright as fresh-cut frost, and the same pulse burns in his scorched hand.

Kynes

Kynes

It is keyed to my hand.

Bren halts beside him, blade half-raised, as the marks knit into a geometric lattice across the wall. The air shivers with ozone and old dust, and the final seal hums shut from the inside.

Bren

Bren

That is not a trail. It is a hunt mark.

The blue-white archive pulse steadies overhead, but the stone beneath it begins to vibrate in sympathy with Kynes’s palm. Every clawed curve now reads like a lock waiting for the same flesh that woke it.

Bren shifts closer, not in front of him, beside him. Together they face the seal, while the vault’s hidden grammar keeps listening for his blood.

Bypass the hunt-marked final seal

✓ Quest Accepted

Escape the vault

Use Soul-Cutter to carve a counter-script into the stone and disrupt the hunt mark.

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +1)

The Vault's Final Seal
Bren
Bren

Kynes drags Soul-Cutter across the stone. The blade bites, and his counter-script blooms under the claw-marks in a clean, violent line of pale fire.

Kynes

Kynes

That should do it.

The hunt lattice stutters. Its glow gutters from bright frost to dull ash, and the pulse in his palm breaks its rhythm.

Bren

Bren

It is losing him.

Bren lowers her blade a fraction, watching the wall instead of Kynes. The seal does not open, but the mark stops answering his blood.

A thin seam of mist leaks from the floor below the dead glyphs, and the archive projection overhead flickers, as if uncertain what to track now.

Bren

Bren

Now. Before it learns another way to hold the door.

" well fuck it" I tap into the void feel the entire door and pull it off it's hinges

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +2)

Kynes rises and throws his weight through the vault’s last refusal. Void-charged force takes the door in the grain of stone and hinge, and the slab wrenches free with a shriek of dust and old seal-work.

Kynes

Kynes

Well. That worked.

The broken door slams outward into the dark corridor, leaving a raw black gap where the seal was. Cold air and mist rush through first, then the stale breath of open space.

Bren

Bren

There’s the exit. Finally.

Bren steps in beside him, blade still ready, her gaze cutting past the fallen slab to check for any second lock. The archive projection above flickers, then loses its shape.

Bren

Bren

Move. Before it decides to change its mind.

Kynes faces the opened gap, his scorched hand lowered now, the mist at his boots thinning as the seal’s pressure dies. The hunt lattice behind them is only ash-light and broken intent.

Quest Complete

Escape the vault

I cast dancing lights and send them ahead

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -2)

The Vault's Final Seal
Bren
Bren

Kynes lifts his scorched hand and traces a small, exact arc in the air. Pale motes bloom from his fingers, then split into a dozen blue-white lantern sparks.

The lights drift forward into the corridor, hanging low over the stone and painting the mist in cold silver bands.

Kynes

Kynes

There. Let the dark complain at that.

The tunnel answers at once, its length made plain, seams, dust, and a clawed scrape cut into the floor beyond the threshold.

Bren

Bren

Good. Now we can see what is waiting for us.

One light gutters harder than the rest, and a thin ribbon of violet leaks from Kynes's palm into it, making the nearest spark stutter.

The glow still holds, but the spell leaves a faint ache in his hand and a bright trail of light behind them, easy to follow if anything is hunting.

Huh"

The Vault's Final Seal
Bren
Bren

The corridor settles into a thin, watchful silence. Mist coils over the stones, and the clawed trail stays plain in the lanternlight, no longer hiding anything.

Bren eases one step closer to Kynes, her shoulders loosening at last. "Well, that was rude," she says, looking down the lit passage with tired approval.

Kynes

Kynes

Just a corridor, then. Nothing mystical about it that can’t be cut, crossed, or ignored.

I send a telekinetic hand ahead to see if it grips anything and then crushes on impact of anything

SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled +4)

The Vault's Final Seal
Bren
Bren

Kynes sends a thin telekinetic hand down the corridor. It glides over the seams, feeling for teeth, pressure, or intent.

The construct finds a hidden latch in the stone and crushes it flat. Something inside the wall gives a dry crack, then goes still.

A slit opens in the floor beside the clawed trail, exhaling a thread of drained violet light. The path is not blocked, it is exposed.

Bren's head snaps toward the sound, blade lifting again. 'Well. That was waiting for us,' she mutters.

Kynes

Kynes

The trap was nested in the seam, not the track.

The archive projection at the edge of the hall flickers into a faint route mark, then thins into mist. It points past the clawed trail, not into it.

Bren angles her body toward Kynes, alert but calm. The corridor ahead is open, but the exit now waits on his next move.

" I am starting to think alot of this is keyed to how I was. Cautious and careful. So Hun, shall we do it how they expect or how I do it now." I give her a grin

Kynes

I am starting to think a lot of this is keyed to how I was, cautious and careful. So, hun, shall we do it how they expect, or how I do it now?

Kynes gives her a grin, tired and sharp at once, and lets the vault hear the edge in it. The mist keeps thinning along the floor.

Bren

Bren

How you do it now sounds better to me. I am fond of leaving old traps disappointed.

Bren

Bren

He is still bruised by every room that tried to own him. That grin means he is choosing, not just surviving.

Bren lowers her blade a fraction, not in surrender, but in trust. Her eyes stay on Kynes, waiting for his answer to become motion.

Bren

Bren

Say the word, and I follow the version of you that walks forward.

The archive projection has almost gone, only a pale route ghosting the stone beyond the clawed trail. The exit remains open, quiet, and listening.

"walk, that's adorable" as sea of shadows envelope Bren I void step past all obstacles to the exit.

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Bren
Bren

Kynes lets the shadows spill from his feet like a cloak gone hungry. Bren’s outline blurs inside that moving dark as the vault forgets her shape for one breath.

Kynes

Kynes

Walk, that is adorable.

He void-steps. The corridor folds under him, stone and mist swapping places in a silent lash.

The clawed trail is left behind, bypassed cleanly. The route ghost on the floor gutters out as Kynes lands beyond it, already facing the exit.

Bren reappears with him at the threshold, no longer behind the hazard but beside it, her blade up and her shoulders loose with startled relief.

Bren

Bren

That works. I am taking that version of you over the slow one.

Behind them, the slit in the floor remains open, but the vault’s final seal has no reach here now. Cold air moves freely through the broken way out.

Kynes leaves the vault behind and arrives at the outside.

We void step one more time to the outside

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +3)

Cold night air hits like a held breath finally released. Kynes stands outside the vault now, mist curling around his boots and thinning over roots split by old seams.

The last violet stain on his hand gutters faintly, then steadies into a dull ember. Behind him, the broken way out is just stone and shadow again.

Bren

Bren

You made that look insulting. I appreciate the efficiency.

Kynes

Kynes

Outside. Good. The trail is gone, for now.

A thin archive projection flickers across the ground for one breath, drawing a pale line toward the tree line, then breaks apart into drifting motes.

Bren

Bren

That mark is still trying to remember us.

The clawed trail behind them does not return, but the exposed roots ahead pulse once, as if something deep in the earth has noticed their escape.

Kynes leaves the outside behind and arrives at The area Ven now calls home.

I have questions. And I know someone who might have them. I take Bren and we teleport to The area Ven now calls home

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Cold stone breathes underfoot here, and the air tastes older than the grove. The chamber Ven claims hums with a low, buried pulse, while pale seams thread the floor like veins under skin.

Kynes arrives with Bren beside him, and the first thing he notices is the wall. Not carved, not built, but persuaded into shape, a listening surface with one dark notch in it.

Ven

Ven

You bring questions and a witness. That is safer than coming alone.

Kynes

Kynes

I have questions. Start talking.

Ven

Ven

The trail outside was a lure. It points where the archive wanted your eyes, not where your answers live.

A faint archive projection flares in the dust at Ven's feet, then resolves into a second line beneath the first, hidden until Kynes is near. The chamber yields the extra path with grudging light.

Bren

Bren

Good. So the vault is still lying, and this room is at least honest about it.

I hold up my hand" how do I perform a second severance"

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

The Vault's Final Seal
Bren
Bren

Kynes lifts his scorched hand toward the pale seams, and the buried pulse answers at once. The dust-light along the hidden route trembles, then splits cleanly under his arcane pressure.

Kynes

Kynes

Second cut. Same tether, different seam.

A thin lattice of violet script peels out of the floor like shed skin. It does not resist for long, it simply gives way, and the second severance takes hold.

Ven

Ven

There. That was the archive’s remaining hand on the path.

The secondary route brightens, no longer hidden. The clawed trail outside dulls to dead dust, its pull cut off at the source.

Bren

Bren

Good. Then the exit is ours, unless the vault has one last trick left in it.

The chamber settles around them in a hush of drained light and cold mist. Ahead, the newly opened passage waits, while the old trail lies broken behind them.

"I thank you Ven" I say

SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)
