The old shrine sits half-buried in the pass, its cracked stones spared the worst of the wind. Bren's fire gives the room a low gold glow, and the valley below lies quiet beyond the open arch.

Kynes settles near the warmth, staff across his knees, the last traces of violet dust faded to a dull scar on his hand. Bren keeps watching him, not alarmed now, just careful.

Bren

Bren

You look steadier. I wanted to see that with my own eyes.

Kynes

Kynes

The mark is quiet. Just a scar, for now.

Bren leans back against the stone and lets out a slow breath. The fire pops between them, and the silence feels less like a trap than a shelter.

Bren

Bren

I keep thinking, if the mountains can go this still, maybe we can too. For a while.

Outside, the pass holds its distance. Inside, the shrine stays warm, the valley faint and blue beyond the broken arch, as Bren waits for Kynes to answer, or simply to sit a little longer.

✓ Quest Accepted

Reaffirm Kynes and Bren’s bond

"since I said we leave the house on the beach, the house started to lose it's hold on me." I pause thoughtfully " truth is I started to see the cage we were in. Every two weeks a danger."

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

A Moment of Quiet Shelter
Bren
Bren

Kynes lets the words land in the firelight, plain and stripped of polish. The shrine feels smaller for it, but steadier too.

Kynes

Kynes

When we left that house on the beach, it started losing its hold on me. I saw the cage after that, the way it kept feeding us a danger every two weeks.

Bren goes still beside the hearth. She does not interrupt, only watches him with that hard, measuring focus she uses when something finally matters enough to name.

Bren

Bren

Then say it was a cage. Not a home. Not a mistake. A cage.

Kynes keeps his scarred hand near the heat, the dormant mark dull against his skin. The fire snaps once, loud in the hush.

Bren

Bren

I stayed because you were there, and because I chose to. That choice still stands.

She shifts closer, shoulder brushing stone, then lifts her chin toward him with a tired steadiness that asks for no oath, only honesty.

Bren

Bren

If the house is gone, good. If the danger changes shape, we face that shape together.

Reaffirm Kynes and Bren’s bond

" I stayed because that is what I thought was expected." I shift closer. " I just want you there , where ever that is"

SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -2)

Kynes

Kynes

I stayed because I thought that was expected.

Kynes shifts closer by the hearth, his staff sliding a little on the stone as he makes room for the truth. The firelight catches the dormancy in his scar, then fades.

Kynes

Kynes

I just want you there, wherever that is.

Bren

Bren

Then I am there. Not because I am told to be, because I choose it.

The words land hard, and Bren lets out a slow breath she has been holding too long. Her hand finds Kynes’s forearm, brief and steady, like a brace set into stone.

Bren

Bren

That is the future I can stand inside. If you change, if I change, we say it plain.

Kynes answers by leaning in until their shoulders touch. The movement costs him, a faint wince crossing his face as the old strain in his side tugs awake, but he does not pull away.

Bren

Bren

Good. Let the cost be honest, too.

" through all the memories, you have been a constant." I stop "I am stopping to try to protect you to shield you, and I've realized that I have never been with you." I plop my head on hers

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Kynes lets his head settle against Bren’s, careful and deliberate, as if he is learning the shape of a promise by touch alone. The fire pops softly between them, throwing brief gold over the scar on his hand.

Kynes

Kynes

It hurts less than pretending it does not matter.

Bren

Bren

Then be with me here, not ahead of me, not behind me.

Her shoulder firms under his, holding his weight without taking it from him. The old, guarded distance does not return.

Bren

Bren

I can carry your silence when you need it. I will not carry lies.

Kynes stays where he is. The motion is small, but it lands like a vow made in stone.

Bren

Bren

That is enough for tonight. We learn the rest as it comes.
