The Architects' Core Revealed

The tube heaves around Kynes, slick stone breathing like a throat. Behind him, the chamber grinds inward, chewing its own walls. Ahead, a pale seam flickers, the only sign of an exit.

Move. I can feel the well tasting us.

The construct braces itself against the narrowing curve, one hand spread against the living wall. Bren plants her feet behind Kynes, blade up, watching the dark for anything that tries to spill through.

The seam is shifting. It is not a door yet.

Kynes drives forward, staff first, and the shadow-mark on his palm twitches in answer. The corridor recoils, then tightens again, as if recognizing him and deciding whether to swallow him whole.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, keep going. I will hold this end.

If that mark opens it, then use it. I would rather be free than fed.

Kynes presses his marked hand to the seam. Red-black script blooms under his skin, and the passage splits with a wet crack, revealing a deeper dark beyond. The way out is also the way down, straight into the architects' heart.

Find the exit before the tunnel seals

Does the mark on my palm reveal the true path to the architects' core?

YES, AND MORE (VeryLikely, rolled 11)

The mark on Kynes's palm flares with a blinding, rhythmic pulse that syncs perfectly with the architecture's own heartbeat. It does not merely point the way, it peels back the layers of the stone, revealing a hidden, golden-veined artery that bypasses the collapsing tunnels entirely.

Kynes

Kynes

It is not just a map. It is a key to the entire foundation.

The mark is hungry, Kynes. It shows you the path because it wants to consume the core, not because it cares if we survive the descent.

" venom, I got an idea..." Kynes slowly raises Soul-Cutter as the Sea of Shadows pours from beneath his feet, flooding the living corridor. Venom spreads from his palm, through his arm and into the blade. “Venom. The construct wants freedom. Bren wants out. And I am officially fucking tired of being eaten by architecture.” He releases Soul-Cutter from his hand and lets it hang motionless in the air. “Métima Leryalë…” The blade begins to dissolve. “Raumo Fairion.” The spectral storm erupts through the entire chamber. “Cut everything that belongs to the Architects. Touch nothing that has chosen to stand with

Kynes

Venom, I have an idea.

Kynes raises Soul-Cutter as the Sea of Shadows spills up from the floor, swallowing the corridor in black tide. Venom threads from his palm into his arm, then into the blade.

The construct wants freedom. Bren wants out. And I am done being eaten by architecture.

He lets the sword go. It hangs in the air, motionless for one breath, while the wall’s golden veins start to howl with answering light.

Métima Leryalë... Raumo Fairion.

Soul-Cutter dissolves into a spectral storm. The current slices every architect-made tether in the chamber, but leaves Bren’s warding line and the pale spirit free of harm. The tunnel shrieks as its bindings fail, and a shower of dust and red script bursts from the ceiling.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, move. The floor just gave us one path, and it will not stay open.

The golden passage clears ahead, but stone behind them begins to grind shut again. Something in the dark answers with a hungry sound.

I rush for the golden passage

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

The Architects' Core Revealed

Kynes lunges into the gold-lit gap, boots skimming broken stone as the tunnel shudders behind him.

The passage swallows him. The walls flare with warm veins, and the grinding dark misses his heels by a breath.

Bren

Bren

There. Keep moving, Kynes.

Bren follows hard after him, sword high, while dust pours across the place they just stood.

The Brass and Bone Construct

The way ahead is not empty. It is only less dead than behind us.

A pale spirit slips free of the construct’s shell and drifts at Kynes’s shoulder, watching the corridor bend downward.

Behind them, the last open seam caves inward with a hungry rasp. Ahead, the golden route narrows toward a sealed door marked in crimson light.
