The stabilization snaps backward. Heat knifes through Kynes from the inside, and he folds hard as the hall goes dark. The gold pulse dies. Violet light leaks instead through his veins, thin as cracks in glass.

Bren and Mara rush in, stopping short when they see the glow under Kynes’s skin. The memory on the walls shudders, then falls quiet, as if listening.

Kynes

Kynes

It was never sealed outside. It was under me.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, stay with me. That thing is inside you, not beneath the floor.

Mara

Mara

The pulse was feeding on him. The house did not hold it back, it used him.

The violet sheen strengthens along Kynes’s arms, then tightens toward his chest like a net pulled from within. The Hall of Welcome feels suddenly hollow, as if it has been drawing breath through him all along.

Bren

Bren

We need to stop the bleed now, before it breaks him open.

✓ Quest Accepted

Purify the void-well's tainted energy

I summon sea of shadows. " Ok guys, I think I have some sort of red script thing going on..." " Take it out boys"

Kynes throws his will outward, and the shadows answer. They spread low across the floor like black water, climbing the walls and swallowing the violet glare in their wake.

Kynes

Kynes

I think I have some red-script rot in me. Take it out, boys.

The dark thickens around his veins, then draws inward with a rough, pulling hunger. The hall shivers as if something inside him is being hooked and hauled toward the surface.

Thin crimson threads flash once under the skin at Kynes’s wrist, then peel loose into the shadow-sea. They unravel like burned parchment and vanish in a hiss of cold ash.

Bren

Bren

That is it, keep pressing. I can see it leaving you.

Mara

Mara

Wait, the floor is answering again. The lie is still there.

The violet light in Kynes’s veins gutters, but does not die. Beneath the hall, the void-well gives one slow, patient thrum, and the shadows around him split into two currents, one easing away, one sinking deeper.

Bren

Bren

Kynes, that was only the skin of it. Something under the seal is still alive, and it is waking.

I take soul cutter and call venom, and we head to it

Kynes drags Soul-Cutter free and sets it against the pulse in the floor. Venom stirs on his hand, then streams into the blade like smoke into a crack.

Kynes

Kynes

Come on. Show me where it is.

The sword answers with a cold, hungry note. The violet thrum resolves into a direction, straight down through the boards and stone, as if the hall itself has a throat.

Venom

Venom

There. The source is not the room. It is beneath it, feeding through the seal.

Black shadow tightens around Kynes’s veins, then loosens into a narrow path. The floorboards keep pulsing, but the false calm peels away from them.

Bren

Bren

That is the lie. The stabilizing flow is masking a deeper split.

Mara

Mara

And if that split opens all at once, it tears the hall apart.

Soul-Cutter points like a compass into the dark below. Venom hangs at the edge of Kynes’s palm, eager and tense, while the seal gives one hard, brittle pulse that demands a choice.

We head to the seal

Kynes drives Soul-Cutter down, and the hall answers with a hollow click. The violet glow splits into lines, not a cushion of calm, but a net of pressure aimed at the seal below.

The floorboards shiver apart in a narrow seam. Cold air breathes up from under the Hall of Welcome, carrying the taste of old stone and tainted light.

Venom

Venom

It opens. The route is real.

Bren catches the edge of the nearest board before it lifts, then lets it fall as the gap steadies. Mara leans back, eyes fixed on the dark strip widening between the planks.

Bren

Bren

The stabilizing flow was a mask. That seal is carrying the poison.

Kynes moves first, dropping through the opening with a hard, controlled descent. The hidden passage takes him, and the violet pulse keeps beating below like a buried heart.

Mara

Mara

If that pulse breaks loose, it does not stop at the hall.

Kynes lands in the dark passage beneath the house, directly above the seal's source. The route is open, the lie is exposed, and the pressure below waits for his choice.

I ask Mara what the house remembers

SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled +0)

Kynes stands in the lower passage while the floor above trembles faintly with violet pressure. Mara peers down through the split boards, her face lit by the seam’s cold glow.

Kynes

Kynes

What does the house remember?

Mara

Mara

That depends on which part you mean. The house remembers like a ledger, names first, then injuries, then who was allowed to speak.

She lowers herself closer to the opening, one hand braced on the board edge, studying the dark below as if it might answer back.

Mara

Mara

This place keeps the shape of being watched. That corridor memory, the figure in it, feels older than the hall itself. Like someone was marked and the room never forgot.

Bren

Bren

And the pulse under the boards feels hungry. Not random, deliberate. Like it is waiting for a name to attach to.

The violet thrum below softens for a breath, then settles into a steady beat, as if listening to the question with the hall's full attention.

Mara

Mara

If you want the honest answer, Kynes, the house remembers enough to warn us. It remembers the wound, and it remembers who caused it.
