The dismantled Heartwell chamber lies still. Crystal roots dimly pulse toward the Endless Archives, while broken Astral measures glitter across the floor like fallen frost.
Vaelith stands unrestrained among the ruins, her pale face lit by fading radiance. Neron holds the silver quill nearby, waiting rather than assuming permission.

Vaelith
The commands are gone. No channel demands obedience, no chamber defines my purpose, and no one is telling me what choice proves I am free.

Vaelith
So what does freedom mean now? Do I leave, remain, guide you onward, or choose something none of you expected?

Neron
I can record this exchange if you permit it. Otherwise, I will close the quill and let the moment belong only to those present.
Past and Future Delfarius remain silent at either side of the broken lattice. They watch Vaelith, not the records, as though her first unforced decision matters more than any captured history.

Vaelith
No system is asking the question for me. That frightens me more than obedience ever did, but the answer must finally be mine.
“I sigh a bit tired and exhausted from the whole affair we just dealt with. "You submitted to me. To my judgement. Remember. So." I lean against the wall. "I am just so fucking tired of not being able to rest and recover..." Past Delfarius walks up to me and helps me steady myself. Future looks at her and shakes his head remarking how if she wants to break her word and her bond like all the other astral elves we have ever know have well her actions would be no better.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -1)

Delfarius sighs, exhausted, and leans against the crystal wall. His healing shoulder remains carefully clear of pressure as the chamber’s fading radiance settles around him.

Delfarius
You submitted to me. To my judgement. Remember. So. I am just so fucking tired of not being able to rest and recover...
Past Delfarius crosses to him and braces him by the arm, steadying his weight without disturbing the bruised shoulder. Future Delfarius watches Vaelith closely.

Vaelith
I remember. I submitted to your judgment, and I will not pretend that bond vanished because the Astral chains are gone.

Future Delfarius
If you break your word and your bond like every other Astral elf we have known, your actions will be no better than theirs.
Vaelith lowers her gaze, then kneels among the fallen measures. Her freedom remains hers, but her submission to Delfarius is unmistakably renewed.

Vaelith
Then rest, Delfarius. I will honor the bond I chose, and I will not make your exhaustion another battle.
“I roll my eyes. "Well at least for now, until you remember that you have an ounce of power and it goes to your head." I let out an exhausted and long sigh. I look over to Neron, then narrow my eyes at him. "And what of you, archivist? Still wanting to be an ally or do you want freedom also now...." My words are hurtful but it is because I have been through a fucking lot in just the last few hours. Past tries to reassure me and Future looks to Neron and says what I really want to. That I once considered him a friend, underneath all the hurt and cruelty...I am just a bit harsh at the moment to say it.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +0)

Delfarius
Well, at least for now, until you remember you have an ounce of power and it goes to your head.
Delfarius rolls his eyes and releases an exhausted, lingering sigh. Past Delfarius steadies him carefully, keeping clear of the healing shoulder.

Past Delfarius
You are allowed to be harsh when you are exhausted, beloved. We are here, and no one is asking you to carry this alone.

Delfarius
And what of you, archivist? Still wanting to be an ally, or do you want freedom also now?
Delfarius narrows his eyes at Neron. The hurt beneath the question is plain, but so is the demand for an honest answer.

Future Delfarius
He wants to know whether you are still his ally. Beneath all the hurt and cruelty, he once considered you a friend.

Neron
I want freedom from their records and their commands, not freedom from you. I remain your ally by choice, and I will prove it without pretending the past was harmless.
“"Well whatever." I say with a weak flourish of my hand. "You have the Silver quill again so." I sigh. I just want to go to bed....I look up and make a truthful pitiful sound like a pout to the room.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Delfarius
Well, whatever. You have the silver quill again, so.
Delfarius gives a weak flourish toward Neron, then sighs and looks up with a truthful, pitiful pout. The effort leaves his composure visibly threadbare.

Delfarius
I just want to go to bed.

Neron
Then go. I will keep the quill and preserve the records without disturbing you.
Neron closes his fingers around the silver quill. Past Delfarius steps nearer, while Future Delfarius quietly opens a shadowed passage toward the bedchamber.

Past Delfarius
Come, beloved. You have carried enough for today. Let us get you somewhere warm and quiet.
The passage carries Delfarius directly into the Tower’s bedchamber. Soft firelight, clean sheets, and a waiting cup of water receive him as the door seals behind the others.
“"No no no...I can't" I say to Past and Future Delfarius as I walk back towards the portal. They both look at me with my own fucking determined and stubborn look and tell me no and to go to bed and close the portal.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -3)

Delfarius
No, no, no... I can't.
Delfarius turns and walks back toward the shadowed portal, each step quick despite his exhaustion. His boot catches the threshold, scraping his palm against the stone as he reaches it.

Past Delfarius
No. You are going to bed, beloved.

Future Delfarius
Absolutely not. Bed first. The portal closes now.
Past Delfarius catches his uninjured arm before he can pass through. Future Delfarius raises one hand, and the portal folds shut in a clean seam of shadow.

Past Delfarius
You reached it. That does not mean you get to use it. You are hurt, tired, and finished for tonight.
The sealed portal leaves only the quiet bedchamber beyond. Delfarius stands at its threshold with a stinging palm, while both other selves regard him with his own stubborn, determined expression.
“"Ugghh." I exclaim angry and protesting. Past and Future look at each other with a slightly amused and annoyed expression then take me to the bed and make me lay down. "No..I can't. Neron...Vaelith...I need to..." I start to drift off and sleep completely exhausted and spent.”

Delfarius
Ugghh.
Past and Future Delfarius exchange an amused, annoyed glance. Without arguing further, they each take an arm, keeping clear of the bruised shoulder, and guide him toward the bed.

Delfarius
No... I can't. Neron... Vaelith... I need to...

Past Delfarius
They can wait, beloved. Neron has the quill, and Vaelith has made her choice. Neither needs you standing tonight.

Future Delfarius
You have already done enough. Lie down before exhaustion decides for you.
They ease Delfarius onto the bed and draw the covers over him. His protest loses its shape as fatigue pulls at him, while Past remains beside him and Future seals the chamber’s unnecessary passages.
Delfarius’s breathing deepens. The Tower quiets around the bed, and he drifts fully into sleep, spent beyond further resistance.
“Past asks Future to stay with him and keep them both company. Future looks at Past and smirks a bit. They all crawl into the bed with me as I am sleeping and we all sleep restfully.”

Past Delfarius
Stay with me, beloved. Keep us both company while he sleeps.
Future Delfarius looks at Past Delfarius and smirks, recognizing the request for what it is: quiet companionship, without argument or ceremony.

Future Delfarius
Of course. I was not planning to leave either of you alone.
Past and Future carefully climb into the bed around sleeping Delfarius, keeping clear of his bruised shoulder. The mattress settles beneath their combined weight.

Past Delfarius
He has finally stopped resisting rest. We can guard the quiet without disturbing him.
Past Delfarius remains close at Delfarius’s side while Future settles on the other, their familiar warmth forming a calm shelter around his sleeping form.
The Tower lowers its crimson glow and seals the chamber against interruption. Three steady breaths gradually fall into the same peaceful rhythm, and restful sleep claims them all.
