Delfarius laughs once, and the shattered reflection drinks the sound. He steps through the silver fracture into the palace-side chamber, the rite snapping into focus around him.
Seris and Maelor stand rigid within the arcane geometry, their composure gone thin at the sight of him. The room’s naming lines flicker, then hold, as if the trap itself is deciding whether to bow.

Delfarius
Well. You have the undivided attention of the Unmaker. What are you going to do now?
He throws back his head and laughs loud and cruel, planting himself before them like the rightful owner of the room. The chamber chills harder, and the rite’s lines begin to tremble under his presence.

Seris
You came exactly where the names were meant to draw you.

Maelor
Then let us see whether you can survive what was built to receive you.

Delfarius
These soul-clones smell like fetched echoes. Mine, if I decide they are.
Behind Seris and Maelor, two fresh silhouettes of Solan’s soul flicker into half-formed life, waiting in the rite’s glow. The palace chamber tightens around them all, and the path to the hidden rite beneath the hall stands open at last.
✓ Quest Accepted
Claim the palace rite
“I seize the two Solan echoes and bind them to my will.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +4)

Delfarius closes his hand around both Solan echoes at once. The half-born shapes shudder, then lock to his pulse like animals caught by the throat, their pale outlines flattening into obedient sigils.
The rite answers him immediately, blackening at the edges as if it recognizes a stronger owner. Seris stiffens, their ritual stance breaking for the first time.

Seris
No... that is not supposed to answer you.
Maelor’s dead-looking form flickers once beside them, and the chamber catches on the name threaded through the spell, Edrin Vale, old and borrowed and wrong. The echo of it snaps free into Delfarius’s grasp.

Delfarius
The rite is keyed by a stolen face.
The Solan echoes bend deeper, their glow sinking into Delfarius’s will. Beneath the chamber, a hidden throat of stone opens with a patient grind, as if the palace has been forced to admit him.

Seris
If you hold them, the lower rite wakes for you.
The chamber’s circles settle under his control, the trembling lines becoming steady and hungry. Whatever the trap was meant to devour now hangs claimed in his hand.

Claim the palace rite
“I laugh and turn around with the two clone shapes still in my grasp. "It answers to me, because there is no trap that can hold me." I smirk. "And Solan was the original, Edrin Vale was just an echo. As well Asterin. And you two. Solan is dead." I pause and let out a mirthless laugh for them to realize how fucked they are truly. "I have fed him to my Tower. His power he would have once held is now within my control. As are these clones." I absorb the energy of the Solan echoes and use it to unravel the rite so it can not work as they intended it to.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Void Manipulation, rolled -1)

Delfarius laughs, turns, and keeps both echo-shapes clenched in one hand as the rite skews around his grip. The blackened circles along the floor cinch inward, their old hunger losing shape.

Delfarius
It answers to me, because there is no trap that can hold me.

Delfarius
And Solan was the original, Edrin Vale was just an echo. As well Asterin. And you two. Solan is dead.
His mirthless laugh lands like a blade across the chamber. Seris goes rigid, and the Solan echoes in his grasp begin to thin, their pale edges bleeding into his will.

Delfarius
I have fed him to my Tower. His power he would have once held is now within my control. As are these clones.
Black void threads drink out of the echoes and into Delfarius’s palm, then his chest. The lower stone throat below answers with a deeper grind, opening wider under his claim.
The rite shudders, then unravels from the middle outward. Its lines flatten into obedient ruin, no longer fit for the purpose Seris intended.

Seris
No... the rite is breaking.
✓ Quest Accepted
Break the rite and claim the palace chamber
“I walk up to Seris, the power from absorbing the Solan clones still floating around me like icy whisps. "Was this all some way to bring Solan back and free him from me?" I laugh at Seris desperation. I pull her hood back and look her in her warm brown eyes and regard her coldly. "So sad that it did not work out how you planned, Huh?" I say to her sarcastically with my head tilted towards her. She looks like Asterin did with warm brown hair.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -1)

Delfarius closes the distance through the ruined circles, frost-whispers curling off his hand as he reaches Seris. The chamber stills around them, listening to the crack of collapsing script under his boots.

Delfarius
Was this meant to drag Solan back and free him from me?
He laughs at the desperation in her posture, then hooks two fingers under Seris’s hood and drags it back.
Brown hair spills free. Her face is exposed to his stare, and the ruined rite throws pale light across her widened eyes.

Delfarius
So sad it does not work out how you planned, huh?
Seris swallows hard, shock sharpening into naked fear as the last useful lines of the rite gutter and flatten behind her.

Seris
He reads me too well. The rite is gone, and he knows it.

Break the rite and claim the palace chamber
“The rite is just script, which is ink. I laugh coldly and pull the whole rite scripts to me. I am the Ink. How silly that the little godlings think they can try to contain me. "Now the only question you two should be wondering is if I kill you, or claim you both." I throw my head back and let the room fill with a loud ancient laugh as I regard Seris and Maelor both.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Forbidden Archive Lore, rolled -2)

The rite rushes inward as if yanked by a hook. Black script streams off the ruined circles and coils over Delfarius’s hand, answering the pull of his will.

Delfarius
The script is ink. I am the Ink.
The chamber shudders. Pale lines peel loose from the floor and gather around him, while the hidden throat below groans wider, drinking the spill of broken magic.

Delfarius
Now the only question is whether I kill you, or claim you both.

Seris
He takes the whole rite in his grip. There is nothing left to bargain with.

Maelor
The seal is failing. The chamber is listening to him instead.
Frost crawls over Delfarius’s knuckles as the last strands of rite-script burn into his grasp. The cost lands as a shallow cut across his palm, and the chamber’s ruined circles go still under his ownership.
“I walk up to Maelor who looks like Solan under the cloak and laugh at him. "I killed Solan by ripping his tongue out of his damn mouth. Should I do that to you as well? Hmm?" I laugh an evil laugh as I hold him in place in front of me, Maelor unable to look anywhere but my cold Icy blue eyes and unable to leave my grasp.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Delfarius crosses the broken rings and catches Maelor before the man can retreat behind the cloak’s borrowed lie. The chamber seems to lean with him, its ruined lines going still as his hand closes and holds.

Delfarius
I killed Solan by ripping his tongue out. Should I do that to you too?
A sharp laugh follows the threat, low and ugly, and Maelor’s body locks where it stands. Delfarius keeps him pinned in place, face to face, until the false likeness of Solan has nowhere left to hide.

Maelor
He is not guessing. He is savoring the name before it dies on me.
The pale throat below the chamber answers with a slow, hungry groan. Frost crawls over Delfarius’s cut palm, but his grip does not loosen.

Seris
You are making the room obey you.
Maelor’s gaze stays trapped on Delfarius’s icy stare, wide and fixed, while the cloak at his shoulders trembles under the hold. The rite does not recover, it bends, and the chamber’s ruined circles remain obediently dead.

Maelor
If you mean to break me, you have already found the right shape.
✓ Quest Accepted
Break Maelor’s disguise
“I throw 'Maelor's' cloak back and laugh. It is Edrin Vale hiding under a familiar shape of Solan trying to elicit sympathy from me, isn't it?”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled -2)

Delfarius yanks Maelor’s cloak back, and the borrowed shape falls open in the chamber’s dead light. The false softness gives way to a sharper face beneath, all Edrin Vale’s remembered lines and none of Solan’s hurt.

Delfarius
Edrin Vale hiding under Solan’s skin, trying to earn sympathy from me.
He laughs as the name lands cleanly. Frost cracks across his cut palm, and the torn cloak shivers in his grip, but the likeness does not hold together anymore.

Maelor
He sees through the lie. He sees the shape I borrowed.

Seris
The mask was never meant to survive that close.
The chamber answers with a low groan from the hidden throat below. Ruined circles stay flat and obedient, while Maelor’s exposed face sits wrong in the wake of the reveal, more remembered than masked.

Maelor
Then you know why I wore it. Names are safer when they can be mistaken for grief.
Quest Complete
Break Maelor’s disguise
“"Hmm and it is Wolfie's cloak as well. Intresting. Trying to find a comfort that will not come, Edrin?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -3)
Delfarius keeps Maelor pinned in the dead light, and his tone turns almost conversational. The chamber holds still, listening.

Delfarius
Hmm. That is Wolfie’s cloak as well. Interesting. Trying to find a comfort that will not come, Edrin?

Maelor
It was easier to wear a softer name than to wear mine. Comfort was never the point, only survival.

Seris
He is not lying about that. The rite taught us to borrow what would keep us standing.

Maelor
The cloak was taken from someone careless enough to matter. Wolfie lost it before we needed the face beneath it.

Seris
Edrin Vale is the face that survives when the room demands a witness. Maelor is the hand that keeps the paper moving.
The words land cleanly. Maelor’s throat tightens, and the frost on Delfarius’s palm spiders colder across the cut, stinging hard enough to remind him the mirror passage still remembers him.
“"So I wonder what happens when I tear the hand that keeps the paper moving?" I smirk maliciously at 'Maelor'.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled +0)

Delfarius’s smirk sharpens as he tightens his grip on Maelor’s cloak. The chamber gives a low, listening groan, and the dead rune circles remain pinned under his will.

Delfarius
So I wonder what happens when I tear the hand that keeps the paper moving?
Maelor goes very still, his borrowed face draining of its last easy color. Seris’s eyes flick from Delfarius’s hand to Maelor’s throat, then back again.

Maelor
He means it. Not the threat, the timing.

Seris
You think the hand is the chain. It is only the part that bleeds first.
The hidden stone throat below grinds wider, as if the tower itself leans in to hear the answer. Frost spiders across Delfarius’s palm and bites colder into the cut.

Maelor
If you tear me loose, the names still move. But you will know where they were carried.
Seris draws a slow breath, visibly choosing her next words instead of retreating from them. Maelor keeps his gaze on Delfarius’s hand, waiting to see whether the threat becomes an action.
✓ Quest Accepted
Test whether Maelor can be torn loose
“I grin wide and full of bloodlust. I rip 'Maelor's' arms off of him. "Let's see if if you can move the paper now."”
SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +3)
Delfarius rips both of Maelor’s arms free in a single savage pull. Blood sprays across the flattened rune circles, and the chamber answers with a harsh stone groan.

Maelor
No...
Maelor drops backward in shock, the borrowed shape collapsing at the shoulders. The torn sleeves hang empty in Delfarius’s hands.

Seris
The hand is gone, but the route still remembers it.
The hidden lower stone throat grinds wider, and the rune circles flare once in black-red sympathy. On Maelor’s severed forearms, thin tag-lines of warding script blink into view before dimming.

Delfarius
Let's see if you can move the paper now.
Maelor stares at the ruined sleeves, then at the exposed script on his stumps. The rite has not won free, but Delfarius now has the ward-trace the paper left behind.

“"You're right Aster....err Seris. He was the one who bleed first." I throw his arms down into the mouth of the rite. "We should make sure the hand that moves the papers is fully still." I saw with a broader blood lust filled grin as I plunge my hand in his chest with my obsidian claws.”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +1)

Delfarius drives the severed arms toward the mouth of the rite, and the opening below gulps at the blood-slick shape.

Seris
No, wait, that is not how the route is meant to hold...
The chamber lurches as the arms vanish into the dark throat, and the black-red circles seize on the offering like hungry locks.

Delfarius
You were right, Seris. He bleeds first.
Delfarius’s obsidian claws plunge into Maelor’s chest, and the borrowed shape buckles around the strike with a wet gasp.

Maelor
Ah... stop...
“I pull his still bleeding heart from his chest and show it to 'Maelor' before he slumps over lifelessly.”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled -1)

Delfarius tears the heart loose and lifts it by the valve, blood running down his forearm in thick black-red ropes.
Maelor has no arms now, no hands to claw back with, only a ruined chest and a face going pale beneath Edrin Vale’s borrowed shape.
Delfarius holds the still-beating heart up before him like a proof of ownership, and the rite shudders around the sight.

Maelor
No... wait...

Seris
Delfarius, stop. If you tear that free, the whole route loses its anchor.
The lower stone throat gulps once beneath the circles, then tightens, hungry and unstable, as blood spatters across the broken mirror shards.
Maelor slumps forward at last, collapsing toward the rune-ringed floor while the heart still twitches in Delfarius’s hand.

“I lift Edrin Vale's face up to face my icy cold eyes and to see his still beating heart in my hand. "That is the point. No route for this fuck to come back to." I crush his beating heart and watch as the route loses it's anchor and see Edrin Vale go still and finally dead. "Good fucking riddance to a fucking thief."”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled -2)

Delfarius wrenches Edrin Vale’s face up by the jaw, forcing those borrowed features into the blood-slick light. His crushed hand closes hard around the still-beating heart, and the chamber hears the final pressure before the pulse gives.

Delfarius
That is the point. No route for this thief to come back.
His fist clenches. The heart bursts in his grip, black-red ruin spilling between his fingers, and Edrin Vale goes slack at once, the stolen face losing all fight as the rite’s anchoring pull snaps inward.

Seris
No... the route...
The lower stone throat gulps on nothing and caves a fraction, showering the broken mirror with grit. The rune circles stutter, then flare wild and uneven, no longer held cleanly by the dead name.
Maelor lies still at last, limbs ruined, chest empty, face already dulling under the borrowed shape as the chamber’s red-black light starts to fail.

Delfarius
Good riddance.
“I look at Seris and take a bite of the heart and smirk. "Tastes like failure." Then spit the blood bit out of my mouth as I calmly walk up to her.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Delfarius tastes the ruined heart, dark blood slicking his tongue, and lets the smirk deepen as he turns toward Seris. Then he spits the mouthful aside and walks at her with slow, measured certainty, blood still wet on his hand.

Delfarius
Tastes like failure.
Seris stiffens at the sight, her hands lifting too late as the rune circles gutter and flare beneath her feet. Behind her, the lower stone throat groans and sheds more grit into the broken mirror.

Seris
The anchor is gone...
Delfarius closes the distance without hurry, the dead heart’s stain marking his mouth as the chamber’s red-black light falters around him. Maelor lies ruined at his feet, and the rite’s geometry shudders like a held breath about to break.

Seris
Stop. The rite is failing, and if it tears, the hall below will hear it.
The fractured mirror throws their shapes back in jagged pieces, Seris framed against the collapsing circles while Delfarius advances into the broken reflection. The chamber answers with a hard crack from below, waiting on his next command.
“"Oh I'm sorry. Let's fix that so the hall below won't hear it." I laugh a low laugh like distant thunder. I rise my bloody hand with Edrin Vale's dead heart and plunge my obsidian dagger into it. I plunge the dagger deep enough that it causes my own hand to bleed. I chant the proper words to turn the rite, and all of it's power to my rite, and my power now. I am still laughing now louder, and more menacing as I turn the rite into my rite.”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +0)

Delfarius drives the dagger into the dead heart and the chamber shudders. Black-red light surges up his arm, then turns inward, threading through the rune circles like fresh blood seeking a vein.

Delfarius
Oh, I am sorry. Let us fix that.
His laugh rolls through the shattered mirror, low at first, then rising as the rite catches on his words. The broken geometry stops stuttering and begins to answer to him instead.

Delfarius
Mine now.
Seris flinches as the lower throat below the chamber seals, then opens in a new shape under his command. The old pattern collapses into a darker braid, and the room recognizes a different master.

Seris
No... wait.
The frost-burn in Delfarius’s hand bites once, then cools as the rite pours into him. The mirror shards catch his reflection over and over, each one carrying the same claiming grin while the chamber falls obediently quiet.
Seris stands trapped in the newly bound circle, breathing hard as the floor-script tightens around her feet. The chamber no longer tears, it listens.
