Delfarius travels alone from the Obsidian Tower, the empty jar in hand. Beyond Orosia, he steps from the shadows into Mara’s quiet back office, where a middle-aged woman with weathered brown skin, braided dark hair, and a linen healer’s coat sorts herbs beside a narrow desk.
The clinic healer flinches hard enough to scatter a few dried leaves across the desk. She turns toward him with weary annoyance, one hand pressed against her chest.
Mara
Do you know what a front door is?

Delfarius
I do, but this is much more amusing. Can I get some more of this, please? I have run out.
Delfarius raises the empty jar with an amused laugh. Its glass catches the office light, revealing only a thin residue of cooling salve clinging to the bottom.
Mara
You used the whole jar already? Let me see it before you charm me into surrendering another.
The clinic healer takes the container, tilts it toward the window, and inspects the depleted residue with a practical frown. Behind her, shelves hold carefully counted bottles, and only one small reserve jar remains within reach.

Obtain fresh healing salve
“I frown looking at the depleted shelves. "I see I am not the only one who gets bruises all of the time." I turn my attention back to her face with a small smirk. "I could make you some herbs to make the cream if you need it. I have no idea how to make it, otherwise I would." I say half telling the truth. I think I got the formula. I just really do not want to make it myself.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Deception, rolled -1)

Delfarius frowns at the depleted shelves, then turns his attention back to Mara’s face with a small smirk. The empty jar remains in his hand, its residue making the shortage plain.

Delfarius
I see I am not the only one who gets bruises all of the time.
His pause is perfectly placed, and the depleted jar lends the remark an honest concern. The practiced half-truth carries no visible seam as he studies the healer’s reaction.

Delfarius
I could make you some herbs to make the cream if you need it.

Delfarius
I have no idea how to make it, otherwise I would.

Delfarius
I think I got the formula. I just really do not want to make it myself.
Mara
I do need the herbs, and I believe you can prepare them. Bring me comfrey, moonmint, and silverleaf, and I will make the cream myself.
Mara opens the reserve cupboard and gives him a written list with a small bundle of samples. Her wary expression eases; the offer has persuaded her without exposing what Delfarius suspects he knows.
“I look down at the list then make her a large bundle of fresh comfrey, fresh moonmint and fresh silverleaf. I look at the three new large bundles of the herbs I just created for her bundled neatly and on her desk then raise an eyebrow at her smirking. "Okay there you go."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Magic, rolled +0)

Delfarius studies Mara’s written list, then gathers magic between his hands. Innate Spellcasting draws fresh comfrey, moonmint, and silverleaf from living green light, while Architect of Existence gives each herb abundant, fragrant substance.
Three large bundles form neatly across Mara’s desk, leaves crisp with dew and stems firmly bound. The comfrey smells earthy, the moonmint cool, and the silverleaf carries a faint clean shimmer.

Delfarius
Okay, there you go.
Delfarius raises an eyebrow at Mara with a satisfied smirk, leaving the three fresh bundles displayed between them as plainly delivered supplies.
Mara
That is considerably more than I asked for. Fresh, too. You have saved me a journey and likely several silver pieces.
Mara gathers the bundles carefully, inspecting each leaf with a healer’s practiced eye. Her wary expression gives way to reluctant appreciation as the herbs remain perfectly sound beneath her fingers.
Mara
I can make your cream now. Leave the herbs here, and I will prepare a jar before the clinic closes.
“I gesture with my bandaged hand towards her. "So I should come back in an hour or two or what?" Mara sees my bandaged hand and insists on looking at it.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -3)

Delfarius
So I should come back in an hour or two or what?
Delfarius gestures toward Mara with his bandaged hand. Her eyes drop to the wrapping, and her practical focus sharpens into immediate concern.
Mara
Come back in two hours for the cream. But first, let me examine that hand. You do not bring me healing supplies while concealing an injury.
Mara sets the herbs aside and extends her palm, firm and expectant. Her trust in his generosity now carries a concrete price: she will inspect the injury before preparing anything.
Mara
Give me the hand. I will check the dressing, replace it if necessary, and have your salve ready when you return.
She keeps her hand outstretched between them, the return time settled and the examination unavoidable if he wants the promised jar prepared.
“I let her examine it. "it is only a small cut." I say with a smirk as I look at all the old scars on my arms. Mara looks over the cut and replaces the bandages after she gives it the proper care it deserves to heal properly. She remarks on what I said and all the old scars I have on my arms.”
SUCCESS (Great Health, rolled +0)

Delfarius
It is only a small cut.
Delfarius lets Mara take his hand. She unwinds the used bandage, examines the shallow cut, and cleans it with sharp-smelling spirits. The sting makes his fingers tense, and a thin bead of blood marks the dressing cloth.
Mara applies a cooling herbal salve, presses the edges neatly together, and binds his palm with fresh linen borrowed from the clinic stores. The treatment is proper, though the cleaning leaves his hand throbbing briefly.
Mara
Small cuts still become infected when proud men decide they are beneath care. Hold still. You have enough scars already without collecting another.
Her gaze travels over the old scars crossing Delfarius’s arms, lingering on their varied shapes and ages. She finishes the knot firmly, then checks that the bandage leaves his fingers free.
Mara
Those are not all from one kind of trouble. I will not ask where they came from, but I will ask you not to treat every wound as proof of toughness.
Mara releases his hand once the fresh dressing sits secure. The cut is properly cared for, and the reserve jar waits on her desk, ready for him to collect when he returns in two hours.
“"Yes maam." I say with a smirk then step backwards towards the shadows. "Two hours then." I say fading into the shadows and arriving outside of the Underledger and saying the phrase to let Neron know it is me. "A Shadow only passes." I wait for Neron to open the way to his Archive.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

Delfarius
Yes ma'am.

Delfarius
Two hours then.
Delfarius steps backward into the office shadows, and Shadow-Step Extraction draws him cleanly through darkness without disturbing Mara’s shelves, her narrow silver bracelet catching the light, or fresh bandage. His legendary agility guides the passage with effortless precision.
The shadows release him outside the Underledger, where the stone entrance waits in quiet civic darkness. Delfarius faces the sealed way and speaks the phrase that identifies him: a shadow only passes.
The hidden passage answers at once. Its runes brighten, the stone folds aside, and the way into Neron’s Archive stands open before Delfarius.

Neron
I know that shadow. Welcome, Delfarius. The Archive is open to you.
Warm archive-light spills across the threshold as the Underledger admits him. The passage is secure, and Neron’s welcome carries through the records waiting beyond.
“I walk inside and look at Neron with an amused look as I lift my hand to him with the bandage. "I have a couple hours to waste and I thought I would visit whilst I was in town." Neron regards my bandage then asks me what I was doing. I tell him with a small laugh.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -2)

Delfarius walks into the Underledger with an amused look and lifts his freshly bandaged hand toward Neron. Warm archive-light spills across the civic records.

Delfarius
I have a couple hours to waste, and I thought I would visit whilst I was in town.

Neron
A leisurely visit, then? The bandage suggests something less idle. What were you doing?

Delfarius
I ran out of bruise cream and needed more. Mara is making it with the herbs I provided, so it will take two hours. I thought I would spend the wait here.
Neron regards the bandage, then the supplied explanation. His welcome remains genuine, but his attention sharpens; Delfarius has earned access to the Archive while also inviting questions about what caused the bruises.

Neron
Then you may stay, though I will expect a proper account of the injuries before you leave. Consider it the price of wasting your time in my Archive.
