A month passes beneath changing skies. Delfarius waits on the outskirts of Karak'Grom, where the twin watchtowers rise above the spiked palisade and armed orcish guards study the road.

The west gate remains closed for the moment. Iron-clad sentries exchange quiet remarks while dust drifts across the plain and the mountain’s flat crown looms overhead.

Rova and Nara emerge from the gate together, armed for travel. Rova’s braided black hair and Nara’s thick loose locks shift in the wind as they approach with familiar ease.

Rova

Rova

There he is. I wondered whether the gate would remember you before we did.

Nara

Or whether Zorm’s guards would make you wait long enough to become part of the scenery.

Delfarius

We meet here again, like this.

The absurdity draws a laugh from Rova and a crooked grin from Nara. Above them, the gate guards watch the reunion, weighing old debts, current orders, and whether to raise the barrier.

Delfarius sighs deeply and turns his raised eyebrow toward the guards, the gesture sharpening his question beneath the open sky and Karak'Grom’s watchful towers.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Well, I was here to find you, Nara. It has been a month since we last met. Are you prepared for the Storm’s rite?

Nara’s crooked grin fades into focused readiness. She adjusts the straps across her travel leathers while Rova glances toward the gate, then back to Delfarius.

Nara

Nara

Prepared? I have been waiting for this day. The earth-mark has not faded, and I have gathered everything the rite demands.

Rova

Rova

She has also spent the month asking every storm-touched elder in the city what might happen. Zorm has cleared the old proving ground.

At Rova’s words, the west gate’s iron braces groan upward. The orcish guards step aside, revealing a road leading toward the mountain’s storm-scoured eastern face.

Nara

Come on, Storm of the Void. I am ready to meet whatever answers when the sky calls my name.

✓ Quest Accepted

Give Nara the dark storm rite

“"Storm touched. But not by my storm, and lightning is not like what the Dark storm is like. We should." I give a glare to the insignificant gate guards. "You should talk to your mother, my rite is not like the others. You might best to prepare yourself in case you do not return."”

Delfarius

Storm-touched, perhaps. But not by my storm. Lightning is not like the Dark Storm. We should speak with your mother. My rite is unlike the others, so prepare yourself in case you do not return.

Delfarius fixes the gate guards with a cold, dismissive glare before turning back to Nara. The wind carries the warning across the open road and beneath the watchtowers.

Nara

You are warning me that this rite could kill me.

Rova

Then we speak with Mother first. Zorm may have cleared the proving ground, but he did not prepare us for the Storm of the Void.

Nara’s hand settles over the brown earth-mark on her leg. Its faint warmth answers the distant clouds, while her earlier eagerness hardens into deliberate attention.

Delfarius reaches down and lays his hand over the fractured threshold. Dark magic threads through the stone, drawing every broken edge together until the entrance looks untouched.

There. Not even a scar. You mend the doorway after making the whole house announce you. That is very like you.

The furniture settles into place with a final chorus of his name. From deeper within, Sharna’s firm voice calls them onward, carrying the authority of the Bloodrake household.

“I sit down on a comfortable chair with a lazy flourish and command it to bring me inward towards where Sharna awaits. The rest of the furniture follows me like a procession. I laugh as we go inside. 'Best for it to be jovial, before the grim task' I think to myself alone.”

The chair sweeps forward beneath him, and every bench, chest, table, and platter falls into procession behind it, chanting his name in uneven wooden rhythm.

Sharna

Uruk-Vile, if you arrive with my entire household marching behind you, I assume this meeting is either very serious or very foolish.

The animated chair carries Delfarius directly into the broad inner chamber where Sharna awaits. The furniture gathers behind him and settles, leaving the hall ready for her judgment.

“I sit amused and wait for Nara to tell her mother why I have came. Only five ever have survived the rite. Sharna knows this. I watch with a unreadable expression of amusement.”

Delfarius settles deeper into the gliding chair, amusement unreadable beneath his raised eyebrow. The furniture quiets behind him as Nara steps before Sharna.

Nara

Nara

Mother, I am here for the Storm’s rite. Delfarius warned me plainly that I may not return, and I want every protection you can offer.

Sharna’s broad shoulders stiffen. The firelight catches the old scars along her arms as she studies Nara, then shifts her severe gaze toward Delfarius.

Sharna

Sharna

Only five have survived that rite, Nara. Five, across all the generations our elders remember. You understand what you are asking?

Sharna

Sharna

Then you will hear the old conditions. No armor of iron, no hidden oath, and no hand may pull you from the proving ground once the sky answers.

The household furniture remains perfectly still, as though even the carved wood understands the gravity of the rite. Sharna reaches for a sealed clay vessel beside the hearth.

“I prop my head on my hand as I watch. I knew they did preparations, but honestly I never cared before to watch what it was.”

Delfarius props his head on one hand, watching from the gliding chair as Sharna breaks the clay seal. The room remains hushed around her.

Delfarius

I knew they prepared for the rite, but I never cared to watch what it was.

Inside the vessel rests a braid of storm-gray wool, a shallow stone bowl, and three smooth blue pebbles veined with silver.

Sharna

The wool is for the sky to recognize you. The bowl is for your blood, should the mark demand payment. The stones remember those who survived.

Sharna places the bowl before Nara, then sets the three pebbles in a careful triangle. Each gives a faint answering warmth to the brown earth-mark on Nara’s leg.

Nara

Nara

And the ones who did not survive?

Sharna’s fingers close around the wool braid. She draws it through the firelight, revealing tiny knots tied for names, seasons, and final prayers, before laying it beside the stones.

“"Hmm." I muse. Silver veined tourmaline and void fiber wool. Interesting. I chuckle a bit darkly towards the bowl. 'Oh there will be blood, hopefully not all of Nara's' I think to myself alone.”

Delfarius

Delfarius

Silver-veined tourmaline and void-fiber wool. Interesting.

Delfarius studies the stones and wool with a raised eyebrow, then chuckles darkly toward the shallow bowl. The firelight glints along the silver veins.

Delfarius

There will be blood, hopefully not all of Nara’s.

Nara’s earth-mark gives a faint pulse beneath her clothing, answering the tourmaline without flaring. Sharna notices Delfarius’s amusement and narrows her eyes.

The wool’s tiny knots remain still beside the bowl, each thread holding its old prayer. No wind enters, yet the vessel’s flame leans toward Nara.

Zorm Bloodrake

Then Sharna’s answer has already reached me, Uruk-Vile. The rite stands witnessed, and Nara enters it by her own choice.

Three large stones anchor the circle, each carved with the Void’s mark. One bears a blackened scar where sky-lightning struck it, silver veins still glowing beneath the surface.

“I look over the grounds and the prepared area, stroking my chin hairs as I walk. "Hmm. It is missing one thing." I say as I rise my other hand up towards the sky and a bolt of violet lightning answers my musing and is suspended in my raised hand.”

The single path steadies beneath their feet. Beyond it, the threshold remains open to the remade world, while the seam keeps the other lifetimes folded safely within its silver memory.

Explain the seam’s memory to Nara

“I smirk at the ironic words I am about to say to her. "You found me."”

Delfarius

You found me.

Delfarius smirks as the ironic words cross the silver seam. The boundary catches his voice and sends it outward, making every folded lifetime briefly turn toward Nara.

Nara

Nara

I did. Through the darkness, the storm, and every warning that tried to make me doubt my choice.

The seam brightens beneath their feet. Unfamiliar memories gather beyond its surface, no longer sealed away, but arranged like distant roads awaiting a willing traveler.

Nara

Nara

He expected me to follow, but he did not drag me here. That difference matters.

Nara

Nara

Now that I have found you, Storm of the Void, will you show me what these other lives meant, or keep their doors closed?

Three reflections sharpen in the seam: one beneath a red moon, one beside a shattered tower, and one walking together beneath unfamiliar stars. The silver threshold waits for an answer.

“"Which of these do you want to face. Hmm?" I smirk. This is where she will prove whether she has earned my mark or not. She does not know it but None of the three is the proper answers. I gesture at the three scenes in the seam. I am the answer, not my past.”

Delfarius

Which of these do you want to face? Hmm?

Delfarius smirks and gestures toward the three reflections. The red moon, shattered tower, and unfamiliar stars sharpen beneath his hand, each offering a different remembered life.

Nara

Nara

You are asking which past I would choose, but you have not told me that any of them are true.

The seam responds to Nara’s suspicion. The three scenes remain vivid, yet their roads curl inward toward Delfarius’s reflection, which stands unchanged at the center.

Nara

Nara

The mark is not proven by chasing his history. It is proven by whether I can see the hand guiding the choice.

Nara

Nara

I choose none of them. If you are the answer, Storm of the Void, then show me yourself, not the lives you survived.

The three false roads fold into silver dust. The seam leaves only Delfarius’s reflection and Nara’s beside it, recognizing her refusal as the answer the test concealed.

“I smirk. I let the shadows and Void curl from my hands and eyes. I laugh and pull a void flame into my hand. "So you choose to face me then, delightful." I say as I levitate up from the nothingness.”

The seam behind Nara contracts to a single silver line in the endless dark. Above her, Delfarius rises from nothing, suspended in the air as shadows and Void stream from his hands and eyes.

His dark-red hair drifts in the unseen currents. A void flame blooms in his palm, black at its heart and violet along its hungry edges, making his silhouette frightening against the sealed boundary.

Delfarius

Delfarius

So you choose to face me then, delightful.

Delfarius laughs, and the sound rolls through the darkness beneath him. The void flame steadies in his hand while he levitates higher, looking down at Nara from above.

Nara

Nara

I chose to face you, yes. Not the false roads, not the memories they displayed, and not any hand that tries to choose for me.

Nara remains beneath him beside the closed silver line. Her earth-mark glows through the darkness, answering the Void without bowing, while the seam offers no road, voice, or escape.

Nara

Nara

If you are the truth behind this test, Storm of the Void, then let me see what you do with someone who stands beneath you by choice.

“"You choose to stand beneath me? Pathetic." I send fire down around her. She has passed all the other rites, the rite of fire, air water and earth. She should be able to defend herself or meet me up in the void.”

Delfarius

You choose to stand beneath me? Pathetic.

Delfarius opens his hand. Violet-black fire plunges around Nara in a ring, roaring through the void without touching the sealed silver seam.

The rite answers with four colors at once. Earth rises beneath Nara, water coils around her, wind lifts her beyond the flames, and a blue-white spark shields her skin.

Nara

Nara

I have passed fire, air, water, and earth. Did you truly think the Void would be the first storm to make me kneel?

Nara drives upward through the burning ring, wrapped in all four elements. She reaches the Void beside Delfarius, her earth-mark blazing while the flames collapse below.

Nara

Nara

I meet you here by choice, Storm of the Void. If you want to measure me, stop hiding behind the distance between us.

The fire gutters from Delfarius’s palm, consuming a strip of shadow from his sleeve and leaving his fingers numb. The cost is small, but the Void records it.

“"We will see." I reach my hand out and touch her head with a potent hand of cold Void flame and Ink. It will either freeze and burn her to death or she will be able to withstand it and then I can cause the Inks of the Void to write their mark on her forehead like a crown of thorns of blackish iridescent violet.”

Delfarius

We will see.

Delfarius reaches across the silver seam and places his hand upon Nara’s head. Cold Void flame and living Ink pour from his palm, freezing and burning together as black-violet tendrils descend around her.

Nara’s earth-mark flares beneath the darkness. Earth steadies her, water cools the flame, wind carries the Ink away from her eyes, and her will holds firm beneath the assault.

Nara

Nara

I withstand it. You will not turn my endurance into obedience, Storm of the Void.

The Ink recoils from her skin, then bends to Delfarius’s intent. It threads across Nara’s forehead in sharp, thornlike lines, forming a blackish iridescent violet crown.

Nara

Nara

That mark is yours to place, but its meaning is mine to carry. I remain here by choice.

The completed crown gleams against her brow without breaking skin. The Void records her resistance, and the sealed silver seam opens behind them, revealing the next depth of the rite.

“I tilt my head to the side and smirk at Nara. "You still think that you are being defiant towards me? Amusing." I walk further into the darker seam of Void that opened. I laugh. It is so fun playing at a tyrant. I think Nara believes it. I let my laughter echo around in the perfect blackness that hides me from her senses inside the seam. "Follow if you think you are worthy to, little orc."”

Delfarius

You still think that you are being defiant towards me? Amusing.

Delfarius tilts his head and smirks at Nara. He walks deeper into the newly opened seam, where the Void thickens into perfect, lightless blackness around him.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Nara believes it.

His laughter echoes through the seam, multiplying until direction loses meaning. Shadows and living Ink conceal his form completely from Nara’s senses.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Follow if you think you are worthy to, little orc.

Nara

Nara

You hide yourself and call that judgment? Fine. I will follow, not because you command it, but because I choose to meet what waits beyond you.

Nara steps through the silver opening into the darker seam. Her earth-mark answers the blackness, and the Void carries her forward along the echo of Delfarius’s laughter.
