The Obsidian Tower folds through a curtain of black stars and carries Delfarius into the Endless Archives. Infinite shelves rise around him, their labels whispering in dead alphabets.

Within a small pocket of Void, First remains suspended beneath the Orcish death sign branded across him. The Tower carries him past as Delfarius looks over and laughs.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Don't worry, I have not forgotten your part in this all.

His menacing laughter rolls through the stacks. Then the buried catalogue shelf opens along its true index, revealing a sunburnt strand threaded through the records, Asterin's lingering echo and the hidden hunger the Tower stored beneath her memories.

Delfarius isolates the strand and begins to draw it free. The Archives constrict. Shelves bend inward, and the judgment catches on the ring sealed into his branded palm, reaching through him toward the Tower's foundations.

The extraction has become a single verdict: remove Asterin's hunger, and the buried Archive bargain may reopen through Nadron's ring, dragging the Tower and its keeper into the same judgment.

I look down at the little ring. Or. What If I contained the hunger and buried Archive bargain within this ring. It is now bound to me. So I will contain it and the touches she placed on my Archives.

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -3)

The Archives Pass Judgment

The little ring turns beneath Delfarius's gaze, its stolen mark answering the brand in his palm. His fingers close around it, and the Archive's verdict finds a vessel already bound to its keeper.

Shadow spills uncontrollably from his hand and eyes. Instead of reaching into the Tower, it curls around the sunburnt strand and draws the hunger inward, folding Asterin's lingering touches away from the shelves.

The buried bargain compresses into the ring as a knot of ivory fire. The iron darkens, then seals, containing both hunger and bargain beneath Delfarius's authority.

The cost bites deep. The ring cuts a fresh groove through his branded palm, and a thin line of blood runs across the iron before vanishing into it.

The buried catalogue shelf snaps shut. Its labels rearrange in the instant before darkness takes them, exposing a single reference beneath the Archives, older than Asterin's memory and still awake.

The ring gives one heavy pulse. Far below, ivory sigils illuminate a descending stair beneath the sealed shelf, while the Archives turn every silent page toward its hidden source.

Bring First to the balcony and find a target

I sigh. I really do not feel like climbing down in the depths any more today. I raise my hand and bring the source beneath the Archives to me so I can read it plainly.

The Archives Pass Judgment

Delfarius sighs and lifts his blood-marked hand toward the illuminated stair. He does not descend.

Therefore, the ivory sigils answer his will. Their light climbs the stair in reverse, wrenching the hidden source upward through layers of sealed stone.

The Archives shudder, but the Tower remains anchored. No shelf opens, and no page turns against Delfarius.

A small ivory reliquary rises from the stairwell and settles before him, its surface engraved with a living map of the Archives.

The ring in Delfarius's palm draws the reliquary close. Its lid unfolds without hinges, revealing a dark seed wrapped in revolving script.

The source is now within reach, plainly exposed. Its first inscription names the Obsidian Tower as a vessel, not a master.

The seed turns toward Delfarius and illuminates a final line: THE HAND THAT READS SHALL BE RECORDED.

The hand that reads is the only master, and the only recorded true master, of the Endless Archives and the Obsidian Tower.

Delfarius reaches into the revolving script. His shadow spills from his fingers and crawls across the final clause.

The words resist for one breath, then bend. The old sentence blackens, fractures, and rewrites itself in ivory fire.

THE HAND THAT READS IS THE ONLY MASTER AND ONLY RECORDED TRUE MASTER OF THE ENDLESS ARCHIVES AND OF THE OBSIDIAN TOWER.

The reliquary seals around the dark seed. Every shelf in the unseen distance answers with one synchronized closing click.

Above the chamber, the Obsidian Tower's pulse changes. It no longer strains against the Archives. It beats in the same rhythm.

The suspended First jerks awake as a new line appears beneath the rewritten law: NAME THE FIRST TARGET.

First

Master, the Archives have accepted your authority. What shall I mark?

I pick up the seed and put it safely away in my personal belongings. I smirk at First and pull on his Void tether holding him aloft. I go with First through a seam to the balcony high leagues above the ground below. I open a portal to the Past and smirk at Past Delfarius.

The dark seed rises into Delfarius's hand. Its revolving script folds inward, and he places it safely among his personal belongings as the reliquary vanishes into a sealed fold of shadow.

Therefore, his fingers close around First's Void tether. The suspended craftsman is drawn through a narrow seam as effortlessly as a page pulled from a book.

First

The Archives record the passage, Master. They record the destination as well.

The seam opens onto the Obsidian Tower's highest balcony, leagues above the ground. First emerges aloft beside the black railing, still held by the tether.

Delfarius opens a second portal over the balcony stones. Beyond its violet rim waits the Past, and the portal's surface settles on a younger Delfarius.

The younger figure turns toward the opening. The portal has found its target, while the synchronized pulse of Tower and Archives follows the passage like a newly claimed signature.

Delfarius delivers the invitation with a smirk, his shadow spilling in thin wisps from his eyes and fingertips. Across the violet threshold, Past Delfarius conceals his startled reaction.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

There you are. I was beginning to wonder whether you had forgotten how to have fun.

Past Delfarius steps through the portal, boots touching the balcony stones beside the suspended First. The violet light folds behind him, leaving the two versions beneath the Tower's synchronized pulse.

He wears certainty like armor. I wonder what it takes to make him remove it.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

Very well. You choose the rules, or shall we discover them together?

The question hangs between them, playful rather than urgent. Beyond the railing, the distant world lies quiet under the Tower's shadow, while Past Delfarius waits for the next move.

Have Past Delfarius accept the game's rules

I pull First towards us. Then I explain the rules to Past Delfarius while First listens without doing it yet. "We find an great target to throw First at here then we launch him over the edge hoping to hit the target. If we hit it, we win. If we miss, we still win because First here will have splattered." I say with a smirk. I show Past Delfarius the mark in Orcish on First's forehead that reads he is marked for death Past Delfarius remarks on how he loves a game he can not loose and how two birds, one stone.
