Below the Filigreed Diamond, the judged stair waits like a throat. Its iron steps tremble with borrowed names, and the black-red seal on the seam still drinks into stone. Delfarius stands at the threshold while the hidden chamber listens for his next command.
From the slit in the wall, the archive-breath rises, thin and eager. Shelves beyond glimmer with ledger-light and trapped memory. The stair knows him now, but the listening route deeper below still stirs, hungry for a path he does not leave open.
Repine circles once at Delfarius’s heel, blue eyes fixed on the dark opening. The shadow hound’s form tightens, as if waiting to spring at whatever answers first. The chamber’s hum hardens into a warning pulse.
Delfarius has one clean chance to decide the stair’s fate, seal the route, bend it elsewhere, or turn the Archive’s own hunger into a weapon. The hidden listeners remain beyond the stone, patient as graves.

Delfarius
The stair is mine, but the listening path is not.
The judged stair shivers in place, awaiting his word, his blood, or his blade. Beyond it, the Archive beneath the Filigreed Diamond holds its breath. Delfarius makes the final choice.
“I use my power to sever the power of the listening path. It is my path now, and the Archives will not hunger nor will my Tower. We keep, catalog and watch over this creation until the day comes to unmake it.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled +1)

Delfarius draws the dark current through the slit, and the listening path flinches. Its thin hunger is not cut away, but seized, turned, and set beneath his will like a collar of cold iron.

Delfarius
It answers to me now.
The archive-breath steadies. Threads of stolen memory coil upward, no longer reaching blindly, but looping into a measured pattern around the stair’s hidden throat.

Repine
Approved.
Repine lowers his head at the threshold, shadow fur smoothing as the chamber’s pulse sinks from warning to watchfulness.
Above the seam, the blood-black stain drinks deeper and the fused stone takes on a sealed, record-keeper stillness. The route is not hungry anymore, it is contained.
Far below, the Tower’s answering hush threads through the same command, as if one decree now spans both house and archive. Delfarius keeps, catalogs, and watches, and the dark below holds its silence.

Repine
At last. A leash on the old hunger.

Delfarius
Cataloged. Watched. Until I can break it clean, or make it serve without devouring.
Repine lowers his head at the threshold as the chamber grows still.
The seam above was sealed into fused, blood-black stone, and the listening path below answered only to Delfarius now. He carried the Archive's hunger as a burden, not a banner, bound and measured in the dark. For the first time, the stair held its silence without lying.
