The Obsidian Tower breathes once, slow and deep. Beneath the sealed floor, the Endless Archives presses upward through the stone like a remembered wound. Asterin stands at the threshold, half-lit by black script and pale archive-glow, as the white ribbon stirs beside the cup on the balcony.

You keep calling this a door. It is a claim. Say it plainly, Delfarius.

The archive-light peels open in thin bands, showing hidden corridors of memory, old names, old oaths, and the tethered route threading through them all. Repine is gone from the frame, but the tower’s attention is everywhere, listening for the shape of Delfarius’s answer.

If he names me into the archive, the bond becomes law. If he breaks the route, the tower may take the cost from both of us.

The wall of living script tightens, then settles, as though the tower waits to see whether its master chooses memory as a weapon or a prison. The ribbon at the balcony edge lifts in an unseen draft, pointing back toward the dark seam below.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Delfarius names the binding, or refuses it, and reaches for the tethered route.

I take the memory, the ribbon and tie it back around my belt. "I will not feed the wound any longer. I will remember it for what it was, and learn from my past mistakes."

I will not feed the wound any longer. I will remember it for what it was, and learn from my past mistakes.

Delfarius takes the white ribbon from beside the cup and binds it back to his belt, not as a banner, but as a keepsake. The archive-light thins around the gesture, and the tether beneath the floor settles into a quieter pulse.

The tower does not resist. It listens, then loosens its grip on the old ache, as if granted a safer shape to hold.

Asterin

That is the first honest thing you have said to it.

Asterin lowers her hand. Her tension eases by a single breath, and the black script along the wall stops tightening around the seam.

Keep the ribbon, then. If you must remember, remember cleanly.

Below them, the Archive pulse remains, but it no longer claws. It waits, tamed into a steady, watchful hum, while Delfarius stands with the past at his belt instead of in his throat.

Then let it be named honestly. A bond, kept, and no longer fed.

The archive-light dims from a wound to a lantern glow, steady in the black stone.

Delfarius

Delfarius

I will remember cleanly. I will carry it, not command it.

Good. The truest mastery is the one that does not bruise what it holds.

The Obsidian Tower fell quiet at last, its old hunger uncoiling into rest. Delfarius left with the white ribbon at his belt and the Archives no longer clawing at his shadow. What remained was not control, but a chosen bond, and the mercy of memory kept whole.
