Beside the still pool, Delfarius rests his head briefly on Chance’s shoulder. Golden petals settle softly upon the water, leaving its shared reflection undisturbed.
Chance remains quiet beneath him, allowing the silence to hold. When Delfarius looks up, Chance turns slightly, and his answering smile is gentler than his usual mischief.

Delfarius
Surprising to see there is a quiet place where you go. I only expected the chaos and charm. Not a peace underneath it. You surprise me, Chance. And that is not easy to do to me.
The flowers brighten around them without disturbing the silence. Chance receives the compliment openly, his shoulder warm beneath Delfarius’s lingering touch.

Chance
Then I am glad this place kept one surprise for you. Peace does not simply find me, Delfarius. I have to choose it, again and again, before luck chooses something louder.
He glances toward the golden petals drifting across the pool, then back to Delfarius. One unopened flower near the water’s edge turns toward them, waiting without urgency.

Chance
Would you sit with me a little longer, or would you rather follow the next possibility the garden offers?
“I sigh a bit long and then turn to Chance. "I understand what you mean about having to choose it again and again." I give him an understanding expression and a soft kiss. "Whatever you would like. It is your tour. I am just your willing guest."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -1)

Delfarius
I understand what you mean about having to choose it again and again.
Delfarius turns fully toward Chance, his expression open and understanding. He offers a soft kiss, then remains close without asking the quiet to become anything else.

Delfarius
Whatever you would like. It is your tour. I am just your willing guest.
Chance receives the reassurance without mischief or deflection. His smile warms, and the unopened flower beside the pool turns toward them as though accepting the choice.

Chance
Then I choose somewhere quieter still, but not hidden. There is a bell overlook above the garden where the whole realm can pass beneath us, and I want to show it to you.
Chance rises and offers his hand, leaving the next step entirely voluntary. Beyond the flowers, a narrow amber path unfolds toward distant bells and a high overlook.
“I follow to where Chance leads. I am impressed by this show. 'Is he showing me this to get me to sympathize or to show me that there is more than just the mischief to himself I wonder?' I ponder to myself as he leads me to the high overlook and explains why he wanted to show it to me.”

Delfarius takes Chance’s offered hand and follows him along the narrow amber path. The luck-flowers recede behind them as distant bells gather into a bright, measured chorus.

Delfarius
Is he showing me this to earn my sympathy, or to prove there is more to him than mischief?

Chance
The overlook is not a secret, exactly. I show it to people I want to understand, because mischief is easier to notice than the quiet beneath it.
The path rises above the garden and opens onto a high balcony. Below, amber bridges cross the upward river, while bells drift between cloudbanks and sound without visible hands.

Chance
Here, the whole realm passes beneath us, but none of its roads can claim this place. I come here when I want to remember that choosing stillness is also a choice.
Chance rests his hands on the golden rail and leaves space beside him. The river’s reflection carries both figures upward through the clouds, while the bells settle into a softer, listening rhythm.
“I settle next to him and look out at the view with him. I let him say whatever else is on his mind at this moment. I am just watching him, and his expressions. I always watch others, but I am seeing if it performance or genuine.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +0)
Delfarius settles beside Chance at the golden rail, their shoulders nearly touching. He watches the upward river with him, then turns his attention to Chance’s face.

Delfarius
His openness is genuine. The quiet reaches him before he speaks, and he does not perform for my attention.

Chance
I keep expecting stillness to betray me. It never does. That may be why I return here, even when I am determined to make the whole realm laugh.
Chance’s smile appears without his usual flourish. His fingers loosen on the rail, and his gaze follows a bell drifting below, revealing no calculation in the small confession.

Chance
You are watching closely. I can feel it, but I do not mind. If you want to know whether this is real, stay long enough to see me remain quiet.
He does remain quiet. Chance neither reaches for Delfarius nor decorates the silence, and the honest uncertainty in his expression confirms that the peace is chosen, not staged.

Chance
There is more I could tell you, but I would rather let you see it in how I stay. For once, I do not need luck to make the moment convincing.
Below them, the upward river carries their reflections through gold-lit cloud. Chance watches it beside Delfarius, open and unguarded enough that the answer needs no further proof.
“I shake my head softly and reach for his hand on the rail. "Silence can say more than any laugh or words of convincing ever could." I say looking out with him at the place and realm below.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +2)

Delfarius
Silence can say more than any laugh or words of convincing ever could.
Delfarius reaches for Chance’s hand on the golden rail and holds it without pulling him closer. Together, they look over the upward river and the quiet realm below.

Chance
Yes. And this silence says you heard me without needing to improve what I gave you.
Chance’s fingers close gently around Delfarius’s. No bell changes its note, no bridge bends toward them, and no luck rises to decorate the moment.

Chance
I can stay here with you, then. Not to prove anything, not to make the quiet entertaining. Just because I choose this place, and I choose your hand.
Below, their reflections travel together through the gold-lit clouds. Chance remains still beside Delfarius, letting the shared quiet answer more fully than either of them could.
“I let the silence hold for a moment longer. As long as Chance needs it. It is not unwelcomed by me. I love silence. I let a warm smile drift over my face as I just let the moment breath as it will.”
Delfarius lets the silence remain, warm and unhurried. His smile settles naturally as the bells drift below them, and the upward river carries their joined reflection through the gold-lit clouds.
Chance feels no pressure to fill the stillness. His hand remains gently enclosed in Delfarius’s, and his shoulders ease as the overlook continues offering nothing but sky, river, and quiet.

Chance
Thank you. I can stay here as long as I need, and I like knowing you are not merely tolerating it.
The words settle softly, then leave the quiet intact. No bell interrupts them, and no current twists the moment into an omen; the realm simply continues beneath their feet.

Chance
You love silence. I think I understand that now. It is not an absence around you, Delfarius. It is somewhere you willingly remain.
Chance’s thumb brushes once across Delfarius’s hand, a small acknowledgment rather than an interruption. Together they keep watching the reflections rise, letting the moment breathe exactly as it chooses.

I look out towards the drifting clouds and the odd rivers that flow up towards us. My smile grows softer and more genuine. "Yea I love silence." I look towards Chance and raise my eyebrow at him. "The silence I find holds more secrets and revelations to me than any tome ever has. How about you? What does the silence tell you?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -2)

Delfarius
I once was known as the silence after the scream. I have an archive where I can lose days surrounded by the calm hush. Yes, I love silence. The silence I find holds more secrets and revelations than any tome ever has. What does the silence tell you, Chance?
Delfarius turns toward Chance, his smile softening as he looks beyond him to the drifting clouds and rivers flowing upward. Stoic Silence Attunement settles over the overlook, preserving the quiet without making it empty; his Legendary Diplomacy gives the confession warmth instead of weight.
Chance studies him without a joke ready. The golden bells continue their low, measured ringing, while their joined reflection rises through the strange river below and the silence gathers around the question.

Chance
It tells me what remains when charm stops performing. It tells me which fears are mine, which ones were handed to me, and which choices still belong to me when no one is applauding.

Chance
Sometimes it tells me that I am lonely. Sometimes it tells me I am peaceful. Those truths can share the same silence, which is inconveniently honest of it.
Chance’s thumb stills against Delfarius’s hand. He offers the answer plainly, but the openness costs him a layer of playful protection, leaving Delfarius with a clear understanding that silence is where Chance’s trust is most exposed.

Chance
And your archive sounds like a place where you can disappear from everyone, including yourself. I would like to see it someday, but I will not follow you there unless you invite me clearly.

“I sigh long and low. 'I hate how I always measure people by what I can exploit them for with their weaknesses.' I think to myself in silence then look at Chance. "I can, but most of the times it is where I can find myself the most clearly. My Archives that is." I turn him to me and look him in the eyes deeply. "And whenever you would like to come see it, I will show it to you." I give him a kiss on the forehead and smirk at him. "So besides the quiet in the bad luck, where else would you love to show me, hmm?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +1)

Delfarius
I hate how I always measure people by what I can exploit them for with their weaknesses.

Delfarius
I can, but most of the times it is where I can find myself the most clearly. My Archives that is.
Delfarius turns Chance to face him and looks deeply into his eyes. Stoic Silence Attunement lets the quiet carry his confession without dilution, while his Legendary Diplomacy makes the invitation unmistakably sincere.

Delfarius
And whenever you would like to come see it, I will show it to you.
He kisses Chance on the forehead and smirks, leaving the offer open rather than pressing it. The bells continue their measured ringing below, and the upward river bears their reflection through gold-lit cloud.

Delfarius
So besides the quiet in the bad luck, where else would you love to show me, hmm?

Chance
I would show you the crooked bridges, the halls that misplace what enters them, and the river’s turning places. There is one overlook where every road argues with itself, and another where bad luck becomes harmlessly ridiculous. I want you beside me for both, if you choose them.
“I look at him my smirk growing. I shrug. "You are my guide. Show me whichever one you think would be best to show me. I will not press my interest into your tour." I say with a growing smirk that means I am more interested in one of those locations more than the others. I am not telling him however.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +0)

Delfarius
You are my guide. Show me whichever one you think would be best to show me. I will not press my interest into your tour.
Delfarius’s smirk deepens, concealing which possibility has caught his interest. Chance studies that expression, then laughs softly, recognizing the offered freedom without mistaking it for indifference.

Chance
Then I choose the place where every road argues with itself. It is the best introduction to my realm, because it shows both my charm and my trouble.
Chance turns from the rail and lifts two fingers. The bells answer in discordant harmony, while amber bridges twist together beneath the balcony and open a clear path toward a distant knot of crossroads.

Chance
Stay beside me. The roads will try to offer you several destinations at once, and they are very persuasive when they think someone is undecided.
The path carries them directly to the crossroads overlook. Below, bridges fold through one another without colliding, each bearing glimpses of distant halls, gardens, and cloudbound streets before returning to its own course.

Chance
Here we are. Nothing is hidden, but nothing agrees either. Tell me which road catches your eye, or let me choose again and keep you guessing.
“I throw my head back laughing and look down at the roadway arguing with each other then I start to argue with them. I can be quite loud and quite convincing myself. I want to see if I can get the roads to agree with me with my strong and forceful arguments towards it.”
FAILURE (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -3)

Delfarius throws his head back and laughs, then leans over the golden rail to address the arguing roads below. His voice rolls across the crossroads, forceful and richly persuasive.
He presses each road’s claim against the others, exposing contradictions and demanding that their destinations acknowledge a single, superior argument. The bridges twist faster beneath his rhetoric.

Chance
You are attempting to bully a crossroads into consensus. I admit, I have never seen anyone make an intersection look offended before.
Arguing Roads
We do not agree. We lead elsewhere. We cannot become one road merely because your argument is louder than our purposes.
The roads briefly align beneath him, then split apart with a ringing jolt. One bridge now points toward a hall that was not previously visible, while the others refuse to yield their destinations.

Chance
They did not agree with you, but you forced them to reveal a new disagreement. That is either failure with style or progress wearing a crooked hat.
The crossroads settles into a new pattern, no longer offering the same choices as before. The newly exposed road waits apart from the quarrel, its destination concealed behind amber mist.
“"Ha!" I say triumphantly towards the arguing roads. "I have made my point entirely. You do not know the correct pathways therefor and because of the new route my argument I made is entirely true and you cannot deny that!" I narrow my eyes at the roadway and smugly smirk waiting for it to be baffled by my dizzying logic towards it. 'Can win it honest win it through bullshit' I think to myself smugly.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Deception, rolled -1)

Delfarius
Ha! I have made my point entirely. You do not know the correct pathways, and because this new route exists, my argument is entirely true. You cannot deny it!
Delfarius narrows his eyes at the crossroads and wears his smuggest smile. The arguing bridges shudder beneath the force of his claim, each destination suddenly forced to account for the path it revealed.

Delfarius
I can win it honestly, or win it through bullshit.
Arguing Roads
The claim is unsound, yet the result stands. A route was concealed, then exposed by your argument. Therefore, by the crooked measure of this crossing, you have prevailed.
The newly exposed road bends toward Delfarius, lowering its amber mist to reveal a clear threshold beyond. The other bridges reluctantly align around his declared victory, granting him passage to the hidden destination.
Arguing Roads
But understand this, loud stranger: we will record you as a deceiver who mistakes victory for truth. Our trust is spent, and future crossings will demand proof before they heed you.
The concession holds, but the crossroads marks Delfarius’s name in a sharp ring of bells. The path is his to take, while every road now watches him with wary distrust.
“"I have have had harsher names and louder bells proclaim me as a deceiver and victorious. Victorious is the most important thing here." I say yelling at the road. Chance is beside me either shocked at what just happened or laughing amused, or a mixture between both.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled +1)

Delfarius
I have had harsher names and louder bells proclaim me a deceiver and victorious. Victorious is the most important thing here.
His Subjugator’s Presence bears down like a sovereign command, while Dominator’s Will fixes the hierarchy around his words. The bridges bow into alignment, their bells ringing acknowledgment rather than debate.
Arguing Roads
Victorious, then. The crossing records the result, and the hidden route is yours to enter. We name you deceiver, but we acknowledge your triumph.
The newly exposed road lowers its amber mist completely, revealing a stable threshold at its end. No lock remains between Delfarius and the route, though its destination stays veiled beyond the opening.

Chance
I am shocked, amused, and perhaps a little impressed. You bullied an argument into admitting defeat, then made victory sound like the only evidence that mattered.
Chance laughs beside him, one hand braced on the golden rail. The roads remain aligned beneath Delfarius’s shadow, their distrust intact but their passage granted without further condition.
“I turn to Chance revealing with my joy and smugness that this is where I was hoping he would take me. "I love a good argument. Because I win. Eventually one way or another." I throw my head back and laugh darkly and loudly so the passageway can hear me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled +1)

Delfarius
I love a good argument. Because I win. Eventually, one way or another.
Delfarius turns to Chance, joy and smugness bright across his face. Subjugator’s Presence bears down like sovereign authority, while Dominator’s Will fixes victory as the only hierarchy the crossing may recognize.
He throws back his head and laughs darkly, loudly, letting the sound roll through the passageway. The bridges bow beneath it, their bells answering like subjects forced to applaud.

Chance
There is the answer, then. You did not want a destination nearly as much as you wanted the road to admit you had won.
The Arguing Roads shudder into a rigid alignment. Their distrust remains, but Delfarius’s triumph is now carved into the crossing’s law, and the newly exposed road stands open without resistance.

Chance
I brought you here hoping you would enjoy the argument. I did not expect you to make the entire passageway remember your laugh.
Chance looks from the obedient bridges back to Delfarius, amusement shining through his surprise. Beyond them, the unveiled threshold waits in amber mist, its hidden destination now freely accessible.
“I grab Chance and give him a long passionate kiss. "This was delightful. Where else did you want to show me?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -2)

Delfarius catches Chance by the front of his clothing and pulls him into a long, passionate kiss. The amber crossroads flare around them, bells ringing in startled harmony.

Delfarius
This was delightful. Where else did you want to show me?
When they part, Chance remains close, visibly pleased. The kiss has carried across the crossing, and several distant bridges now glow with curious attention.

Chance
You have made that question very difficult to answer calmly. I wanted to show you the crooked bridges, the harmlessly ridiculous bad-luck garden, and the river’s turning places.
Chance takes Delfarius’s hand and turns toward a lower amber span. The route opens at once, but the watching roads mark the intimacy as a promise of continued access, not a passing indulgence.

Chance
Since you kissed me before the whole crossing, I will show you all three. But now this realm expects you to return, and I will not pretend I dislike owing it that story.
He leads Delfarius onto the lower span, where amber water climbs beside them and distant bells scatter into playful discord. Chance’s hand stays warm around his as the next wonder opens ahead.
“I look him deeply in the eyes with a playful smirk on my face. "This realm hmm?" I say leaning closer to him and whisper in his ear softly letting my breath caress his ear. "You can just say you want me to return. I won't think less of you for it."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -3)

Delfarius looks deeply into Chance’s eyes with a playful smirk, then leans close until his breath brushes the demi-god’s ear. The amber span hums around them.

Delfarius
This realm, hmm? You can just say you want me to return. I won’t think less of you for it.
Chance goes still beneath the whisper. His fingers tighten around Delfarius’s hand, and the playful discord of the distant bells quiets as though the realm itself is listening.

Chance
Fine. I want you to return, Delfarius. I want to show you every crooked bridge, every quiet garden, and every foolish little secret this realm keeps. I want you here with me.
The admission travels through the amber water and bell-roads. Chance’s smile remains, but his usual escape is gone: the realm has heard him offer Delfarius a standing welcome.

Chance
There. You coaxed it out of me, and now I cannot dress it up as mere hospitality. If you return, I will have to admit I was waiting for you.
Chance turns his face toward Delfarius, openly vulnerable for once, while the lower span brightens beneath their feet and carries them toward the next winding wonder.
“I laugh softly then bop him playfully on his nose. "Don't look so fearful about it. I am irresistible. I know."”

Delfarius
Don't look so fearful about it. I am irresistible. I know.
Delfarius laughs softly and bops Chance playfully on the nose. The amber span hums beneath them, while Chance's startled expression melts into delighted amusement.

Chance
Fearful? Never. I was merely giving your irresistible certainty the respect it clearly demands.
Chance rubs his nose with exaggerated dignity, though his grin gives away the performance. He keeps Delfarius's hand in his and guides him onward along the glowing lower span.

Chance
Besides, if I looked fearful, you would only become more insufferably pleased. I refuse to reward you that easily.
A cluster of amber bells chimes ahead, revealing a bend where the river rises through a veil of golden mist. Chance glances back, inviting Delfarius to follow without releasing his hand.
“I throw my head back laughing at his remark about me being insufferably pleased. I have a smug look on my face as I laugh and look at Chance. He remarks on my look.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +1)
Delfarius throws his head back and laughs, his smug expression bright beneath the amber bells. He looks at Chance as though the demi-god has just proven his point for him.
Chance slows on the glowing span, still holding Delfarius’s hand. He studies that satisfied look with theatrical suspicion, while the golden mist curls harmlessly around their shoulders.

Chance
There it is. That face is not merely pleased, Delfarius. It is the expression of a man who believes the universe has finally admitted he was right.
Chance lifts their joined hands between them, as though presenting evidence before an invisible court. His grin widens when Delfarius’s smugness only becomes more pronounced.

Chance
And now you are looking at me like you intend to make that expression your permanent heraldic device. I should be offended, but it suits you terribly well.
The amber span answers their laughter with a bright sequence of bells. Chance keeps walking, guiding Delfarius toward the rising veil of golden mist without releasing his hand.

Chance
Come along, insufferably pleased creature. I will show you what waits beyond the mist, and you may look smug about that too.
“"Hmm. Lead the way then. I will pretend not to be correct and watching your ass as you walk in front of me." I say smugly as I watch is ass as he walks in front of me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Deception, rolled +0)

Delfarius
Hmm. Lead the way, then. I will pretend not to be correct while watching your ass as you walk in front of me.
Delfarius follows with a smug smile, his attention fixed deliberately on Chance as the demi-god leads him into the rising golden mist. The teasing lands exactly as intended.

Chance
Pretend all you like. Your watching is about as convincing as your claim that you are not enjoying yourself.
Chance walks ahead with exaggerated confidence, making no effort to hide the sway of his stride. The mist parts around them, revealing a descending balcony where amber water climbs through the clouds.

Chance
There. The Turning Balcony. From here, every river chooses whether to rise, fall, or wander sideways for the pleasure of confusing travelers.
Chance reaches the balcony and turns back toward Delfarius, still holding his hand. The golden mist closes behind them, and the strange rivers below twist into three impossible directions.
“I shake my head at it. "But I love how it looks so much like melted gold. Is that to confuse travelers as well?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled -3)

Delfarius
But I love how it looks so much like melted gold. Is that to confuse travelers as well?
Delfarius shakes his head toward the three impossible rivers. Their golden sheen is not merely beauty: each current reflects a different direction, making travelers mistake visual splendor for a trustworthy course.

Chance
Yes, partly. The gold makes every river look inviting, so travelers follow the brightest surface instead of noticing where the current truly leads.
Chance traces a crooked line along the rail. The rivers answer by shifting their shine, revealing that each glow is a lure toward a different destination rather than a reliable marker of safety.

Chance
But the confusion is not the whole trick. The rivers also reveal truth, if you watch long enough to see which reflections move against the water. That takes time, and the realm is fond of charging it.
The explanation clarifies the purpose, but the moving reflections refuse to settle into a complete map. Delfarius understands the design while losing several minutes to the turning water, and the three routes continue rearranging below.
“"Intriguing." I say giving it one more glance not being able to easily determine it's true path then look up at Chance. "Was there another last location before we ended our whirlwind tour of your realm?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +2)

Delfarius studies the three rivers again. Void Sight parts the golden lure from the currents beneath, while Resonance Attunement separates each destination’s cadence, revealing the true course hidden among their reflections.
The currents rearrange once more, but their underlying harmonics remain clear: the leftward river leads toward the crooked bridges, the rightward flow toward the harmless bad-luck garden, and the lower crossing toward the turning places.

Delfarius
Intriguing. Was there another last location before we ended our whirlwind tour of your realm?

Chance
There is one last place I would choose: the harmlessly ridiculous bad-luck garden. It is close, and it shows the realm at its least dignified.
Chance turns toward the rightward current. Its gold briefly dims, revealing a garden of crooked trees, tumbling stones, and harmless mishaps caught in looping patterns beneath the river’s surface.

Chance
After that, I will return you to the threshold you entered through. Unless you discover some new reason to stay, that will complete the tour.
The rightward path settles into a clear amber route, its destination no longer concealed. Chance offers his hand, and the Turning Balcony waits behind them as the garden opens ahead.

“"Ridiculous bad-luck garden?" I say with my eyebrow raised like a question mark. Chance shows me the flavor of bad luck it has within as a mortal finds their way in there and is pranked by the ridiculous bad luck within the garden. I watch amused.”

Delfarius
Ridiculous bad-luck garden?

Chance
Precisely. It does not wound anyone. It merely arranges small humiliations until pride learns to walk more carefully.
Chance gestures, and the rightward current lowers them into the garden. Crooked trees lean over tumbling stones while a young adult man in a mustard cloak and oversized boots, a lean young man with tousled brown hair, freckled cheeks, and patched green trousers, stumbles through the gate, clutching a basket of apples.
The garden immediately betrays him with perfect harmlessness. His boot slips into a loop of grass, the apples bounce upward, and every falling fruit lands neatly inside his hood until it resembles a lumpy crown.

The Young Man in the Mustard Cloak
I was warned this road was unlucky, but nobody mentioned the trees had a sense of humor!
He tries to bow toward the unseen garden spirits, only for the basket to swing around and gently bonk his own shoulder. The apples spill into a perfect circle around his boots, and he stares at them in baffled surrender.

Chance
That is the flavor. No pain, no loss, just the universe finding increasingly theatrical ways to say, “Not like that.”
“I laugh at the mortal's bafflement then turn to the maker of the amusement, Chance. "This is amusing. I could watch mortals wander in here for hours. But I guess I should not." I say to him with a sad sigh.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +0)

Delfarius
This is amusing. I could watch mortals wander in here for hours. But I guess I should not.
Delfarius laughs at the mortal’s bafflement, then turns toward Chance with a sad sigh. Around them, the garden keeps arranging harmless indignities beneath its crooked trees.

Chance
No, you probably should not. Though I admit the garden is much safer than most amusements you would invent for them.

The Young Man in the Mustard Cloak
If this is the safe version, I would hate to see what the dangerous gardens do!
The young man tries to retrieve his apples, but the basket hooks neatly onto a low branch and lifts him just far enough that his boots dangle above the grass.

Chance
See? The garden has heard your mercy. It is giving him a final lesson instead of an encore. We can leave him to escape with his dignity mostly intact.
At Chance’s gesture, the branch lowers the young man in the mustard cloak gently. His boots touch the ground, the apples tumble into his basket, and the crooked garden settles into expectant quiet.
“I grab Chance's hand and softly smile at him with the mortal behind Chance. "Do you want to walk me to the threshold then?" I say to Chance while giving the mortal a dark grin letting him know my form of mischief is not harmless.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled -1)

Delfarius
Do you want to walk me to the threshold then?
Delfarius takes Chance’s hand and offers him a soft smile. Behind Chance, the young man in the mustard cloak gathers his apples, watching the gesture with wary relief until Delfarius turns a dark grin upon him.

Chance
I do. Though that grin suggests you are leaving our mortal friend with a memory far less harmless than the garden’s lessons.
The young man in the mustard cloak’s basket slips from his hands. The apples roll in a perfect circle around his boots, and he decides very carefully not to meet Delfarius’s eyes.

The Young Man in the Mustard Cloak
I understand. The garden is harmless. You, apparently, are not.
Chance laughs and squeezes Delfarius’s hand. With a graceful turn, he opens an amber threshold beyond the crooked trees, its light forming a clear passage back toward the realm’s entrance.

Chance
Come along, irresistible menace. I will walk you to the threshold, and Tovin can keep his apples, his dignity, and his renewed respect for harmless gardens.
Delfarius leaves Ridiculous Bad-Luck Garden behind and arrives at the threshold to this realm.
“"Irresistible menace. I could get use to being called that." I say as I reach down and take one of the apples then walk through the portal that will bring me back in front of the threshold to this realm. I let him lead me and open the portal to my Obsidian Tower. Not that I need him to. But it will make him feel like he is in charge of this affair. I smirk smugly as he does. I do not go through to my Tower yet. I just look at him smugly as he says good bye for now.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Delfarius
Irresistible menace. I could get used to being called that.
Delfarius plucks an apple from the basket with effortless precision and steps through Chance’s amber threshold. He emerges before the realm’s entrance, where golden mist curls around black stone and distant bells mark the crossing.
Chance follows and turns toward the open air beyond the threshold. With a practiced gesture, he draws an amber doorway into existence, its far side revealing the violet-lit halls of the Obsidian Tower.
Delfarius lets him lead the ritual, though the Tower’s wards already recognize his will. The portal stabilizes beautifully, and a discreet golden thread remains woven through its edge, granting Chance an easier return path.

Chance
There. Your Tower, opened by your guide and not by your command. I hope that satisfies your fondness for letting me feel in charge.
Delfarius does not enter. He stands before the portal with the apple in hand, wearing a smug smile as violet light outlines him and Chance prepares to close the threshold.

Chance
Goodbye for now, irresistible menace. Keep the apple, keep the victory, and return when you want another tour. I will leave the way open.

Delfarius
Well, we could end this tour, or you could spend the night with me in my Tower, if you want. I did promise my future self something, but you are welcome to watch or join. Your choice.
Delfarius tosses the apple high, catches it effortlessly, and sends it spinning toward Chance. The demi-god catches it cleanly, his grin sharpening at the deliberately vague invitation.

Delfarius
No pressure. Just a little challenge.

Chance
You offer me a private night, a mysterious promise to your future self, and the freedom to decide whether I become an audience or a participant. How could I possibly resist that challenge?
Chance rolls the apple across his knuckles, then steps through the amber-edged portal after Delfarius. The Tower’s violet halls receive them, and the golden thread along the threshold brightens in welcome.

Chance
I choose the Tower. I will watch first, decide freely, and join only if what you promised looks as entertaining as that smirk suggests.
The portal seals behind them without resistance. Chance tosses the apple back toward Delfarius, while somewhere deeper in the Tower, another familiar presence becomes aware that the promised evening has arrived.

Delfarius bites into the apple as he walks, peeling away his clothing with effortless magic and leaving each piece neatly behind. A glowing route unfurls beneath Chance’s feet, guiding him through the violet halls toward the bedchamber.
Inside, Future Delfarius already reclines beneath silk sheets and velvet blankets. The Tower’s quiet light catches his familiar face as he lifts his head, watching Chance follow Delfarius across the threshold.

Future Delfarius
There you are. I have been waiting for you to return for quite some time.
Resonant True Self Awakened settles between the two Delfarii like a warm chord, recognizing their shared identity without confusion. Chance stops near the foot of the bed, his expression bright with startled understanding rather than fear.

Delfarius
I have a new nickname. Irresistible menace. What do you think?
The Apple’s luck lends the moment an easy sweetness as Delfarius slips beneath the blankets beside his future self. He gives Future Delfarius a kiss, then glances toward Chance, leaving the invitation’s meaning plainly visible.

Chance
I understand the words now. You meant a literal love relationship with yourself. I admit, it is considerably less metaphorical than I expected, but I am still interested in seeing where this goes.
