Delfarius crosses to Serdain Gate as the colosseum’s roar swells through the stone. He climbs to his old box, the same high perch over blood and sand, and settles into the chair like he never left.

Delfarius
It has been far too long since I saw the mortals killing each other.
Below, Gregory Giffsyn staggers in the arena, tongueless and maimed, still refusing to fall. A ring of jagged beasts presses him hard, and the crowd answers every stagger with hunger.
Delfarius leans back and laughs low. The old box feels alive under him again, as if the Gate itself remembers who once watched from here.
In the crush of cheers, the contest below sharpens into something wider, a public wound that can be claimed. If Gregory breaks here, the crowd learns what rule looks like under Delfarius, and if he stands, Edrin’s light gets a living witness to answer with.
One beast lunges, claws flashing in the sand, and Gregory plants himself through the impact. The box trembles with the impact from below, waiting for Delfarius’s next choice.
“I just lean back and let what will happen happen. Either Gregory will win, or the beasts will feast. Neither thing determines what my rule looks like. It is a match in the arena. I do however look around with my unholy might and make sure no divine prescience is interfering.”
Delfarius settles deeper into the old box, letting the arena decide its own blood. His gaze sweeps the stands and the sand, and nothing in the air answers like divinity, only fear and hunger.

Delfarius
No prescience. Good.
Below, Gregory still staggers inside the ring, while the beasts close and the crowd roars for either outcome. Delfarius simply watches, untroubled, as the match keeps moving toward whatever breaks first.
“I lean forward with the crowd as a beast bites down at Gregory's leg. 'Oh this is getting interesting.' I think to myself alone.”

Oh, this is getting interesting.
Delfarius leans forward with the crowd as jaws close on Gregory’s leg. The sand jerks red, the stands howl, and Gregory stays upright on pure spite for one more breath.
“I watch as another beast lunges for Gregory's arm but Gregory dodges it and then strikes the beast pinning his leg with a rough crack down on the beast's skull. I grin in delight. 'Yes little mortal, struggle.' I think to my thoughts alone.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Another beast surges for Gregory’s arm, but he twists out of the snap by instinct and raw pain.
The strike that follows lands first, his fist cracking down on the beast pinning his leg. Bone or skull answers with a wet crunch.

Delfarius
Yes, little mortal, struggle.
Delfarius grins over the rail, pleased by the refusal to kneel even now.
Below, Gregory stumbles free of the worst of the bite, but the beast’s jaws still drag through the sand in a spray of red.
The crowd roars louder, hunger turning sharp, as if it can smell whether the knight will break or burn bright enough to matter.
For one strained breath, Gregory lifts his head toward the stands, and the arena seems to hold itself around that look.
“I let Gregory catch my malicious grin in the crowd. In the box that was left open for the master of the arena. A grin he saw me give him right before I cut his tongue out. Gregory's hesitation causes him to deflect the incoming attack from the other beast who lunges towards his arm successfully.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Delfarius lets the grin sit where Gregory can find it, high in the open master’s box, plain enough to be remembered. Gregory’s head turns toward the stands, and the breath in the arena seems to catch with him.
The hesitation costs him. The beast lunging for Gregory’s arm catches leather and flesh together, dragging hard as he twists late and tries to wrench free.
Gregory answers with a violent jerk of his shoulder, deflecting the bite enough that the arm stays his. Sand sprays, blood follows, and the crowd bellows for whichever side breaks first.
Up in the box, Delfarius holds the smile a moment longer, the same cruel shape Gregory saw before his tongue was cut out.
Below, Gregory goes very still. The beast hangs on his arm, but the knight’s gaze lifts again, and the look he gives the box is no longer only pain. It is recognition, sharpened into refusal.
The arena hushes under the roar, as if the sand itself waits to see whether that look becomes surrender or a final blaze.
“I stand up proud and cross my arms looking down at Gregory in the arena bloody. The beasts are doing a good job, but I gave Gregory more scars then the beasts are doing now. My smirk curls sharply. I just watch holding his gaze, judging him to see if he will survive as the two beast behind him circle him then try to pin him down in a vicious attack.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Delfarius straightens in the box and folds his arms, owning the height above the arena without a word. Below, Gregory’s blood-dark silhouette stands pinned between circling beasts and the sand, while the crowd keeps roaring for a finish.
He holds Gregory’s gaze like a verdict. The knight’s jaw tightens, and the beast behind him lowers its head, shifting to strike again as the other prowls wide through the churned sand.
Gregory plants his feet and heaves the first beast off line, but the motion tears fresh blood through his already ruined side. The arena answers with a howl, then a sudden, listening hush as his balance falters.
The second beast lunges for the opening. Gregory meets it with a brutal shove and a wild elbow, turning the attack into a stagger, yet the effort leaves him swaying under the weight of his own injuries.
Delfarius’s smirk sharpens. He does not move, only watches, judging the knight’s shape as the beasts circle tighter and the sand beneath Gregory turns slick and dark.
Then Gregory’s knees buckled. He drives one hand into the sand to stay upright, but the other beast crashes in from behind and pins him half down, forcing the arena to choose whether this is still resistance or the first break.
“I walk calmly to my seat and ease down into it. 'This should be over soon.' I think to myself alone. I hear a sickening crunch as the beast that had Gregory by the leg snaps down and shatters his leg. Gregory pries himself free, now with one leg nothing more than a bloody stump.”

Delfarius lowers himself into the master’s seat, calm as a judge settling in for the final count. Below, the beast’s bite snaps Gregory’s leg apart, and he tears free on a bloodied stump, still refusing to fall.

Delfarius
This should be over soon.
“"Finish him!" I yell into the arena and hear the chant echoed by other voices. Gregory looks up at me and looks a bit terrified to realize my voice is the one who started the chant. The beast is empowered by the cheers of finishing Gregory and lunges towards Gregory. I watch on baited breath. Does the beast defeat and kill Gregory or does Gregory somehow defeat the beast?”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Delfarius’s shout cracks over the sand, and the box beneath him answers. The chant bites into the hush, rolling from throat to throat until the whole colosseum snarls it back.
Below, Gregory jerks his gaze up at the master’s box. Blood runs down his ribs, and the shattered stump where his leg was is dragged through the sand as he braces on the other foot.
The beast surges at the roar, all hunger and momentum, slamming into Gregory before he can settle. Sand sprays high as the knight is driven backward on one shaking limb.
Gregory snarls through the pain and answers with a brutal, desperate blow, crushing the beast’s charge at close range. The creature folds hard into the sand and stops moving.
The crowd erupts, half in triumph and half in shock, as if it cannot agree who has been finished. Gregory remains upright only by will, swaying on his bloodied stump and staring up at Delfarius.
For one breath, the arena holds on that stare. Then Gregory’s face tightens with raw terror, because he understands whose voice started the chant.
“My smirk only goes sharper as I rise up and clap slowly.”
Delfarius rises in the box and answers the arena with slow, deliberate applause. The sound lands like a verdict, and Gregory’s stare drops for one shaken heartbeat before hardening again.
“I lean down in over the rail and smirk as my words reach Gregory's ears only. "Good job, little tin can. You defeated a beast, but still can not stand against the storm." My grin grows more sharp, more malicious. "Good luck on your next bout, tin can."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -3)

Delfarius leans over the rail, and his smirk drops into Gregory’s hearing like a knife. The words are soft, private, and cruel enough to carry over the sand.

Delfarius
Good job, little tin can. You defeated a beast, but still cannot stand against the storm.

Delfarius
Good luck on your next bout, tin can.
The insult lands cleanly. Gregory’s face tightens, but his attention stays fixed on Delfarius, not the cheering crowd.

Gregory Giffsyn
He is here. He dragged the arena into this.
Below, the dead beast twitches once in the trampled sand. The crowd keeps roaring, but the sound thins as Gregory’s next breath catches in his throat.
Then Gregory shifts his weight on the bloody stump and looks up with something harder than fear. A pale flare gathers in the ring of air above the arena, thin as a blade drawn from a wound.
The light bites the box edge and throws a cold sheen across Delfarius’s hands. The old stone rail cracks under his grip, and dust spills into the arena as Gregory’s gaze stops wavering.

Force Gregory Giffsyn to break under the arena’s final pressure
“I lean back in my chair as the assistants help Gregory Giffsyn off of the field. Below another bout in the arena starts. Two women scantly dressed in armor that barely covers them against one large man who looks like he is half giant. I laugh. 'This should be fun' I laugh as I watch the fight start.”

Delfarius eases back in the master’s chair as assistants carry Gregory away below. The sand shifts, the beasts are dragged aside, and a new bout is already being led out under the arena’s grinding roar.
Two women step into the light next, lightly armored and quick, while a towering half giant follows with a broad, patient stride. Delfarius laughs at the sight, and the colosseum answers with a hungry rise in noise.
“I watch as the two women flank the half giant. They attack with their spears. The half giant grabs one of the spears with the woman attached and hold them up in the air. I laugh amused.”
The half giant catches a spear and hoists the woman with it, her boots kicking above the sand as the second attacker checks her rush. The crowd jolts, then surges louder when Delfarius laughs from the master’s box.
“I rest my head in my hand and watch the bout. The woman who is lifted kicks the half giant in the throat. The half giant drops the woman and the spear and the other woman pierces the half giant with her spear. I chuckle amused at the display.”

The half giant folds with a wet choke and drops spear and captive together. The second woman drives in before the sand settles, and the giant lurches once, opening wide under her point.
Delfarius rests his head in one hand, amused, as the crowd surges and the box rail sheds a little more dust. Below, the wounded trio staggers into a new, bloodier shape.
“I look down at the box rail cracked and smirk and repair it like it was new like when I first built this place. I watch as the two women skewer the half giant with their spears and the half giant goes limp from the bloody duo attack at his flank.”

Delfarius touches the cracked rail, and the stone knits back together beneath his hand. Below, the two women’s spears drive the half giant limp, and the crowd surges to seal the ending he was waiting to witness.
“I rise from my seat and give a cheer and clap enthusiastically at the two women. They were entertaining. After I cheer, I get up and go towards the place where the fighters are, to be healed and treated for injuries. I lean against the doorway and look at the healers trying to help Gregory with his mangled stump of what is left of his leg. I grin and chuckle softly.”

Delfarius rises to the arena’s applause and lets it carry him toward the healer’s door, where blood and incense already mingle. Gregory lies bled down to a stump while the attendants work fast, and Delfarius leans in the doorway with a pleased, quiet chuckle.
“I look at Gregory Griffsyn and say to the healers tending him. "Leave him, I can handle it." I say it with a amused and sadistic grin.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +3)

Delfarius’s grin cuts through the incense haze, and the healers freeze at the doorway. One looks to Gregory’s ruined leg, where a bloody stump is still being wrapped, then steps back at once.

Delfarius
Leave him. I can handle it.
The words land cleanly. The nearest healer bows and takes the basin with both hands, while the other gathers bandages from Gregory’s bench and retreats.

Healer
As you command, my lord.
Gregory lifts his head from the treatment bench. His face is gray with pain, and his one remaining leg trembles against the blood-soaked cloth as he turns toward Delfarius.

Gregory Giffsyn
He comes to watch me bleed more.
The last healer clears the table by the wall and, with a nervous glance at Delfarius, uncovers a sun-etched charm that pulses once in the smoke.

Healer
It keeps warming whenever he looks at you.
Gregory’s jaw tightens. He stares at the charm, then back at Delfarius, breathing through his pain as the room empties around them.
“i walk over to the holy symbol for the light and pick it up with a bit of amusement. I turn with the holy symbol still in my hand and let it crumble to a bit of worthless dust and ash. "We don't need to involve Vale here right now do we Gregory, do we?" My grin grows more edged as I walk up closer to the holy knight.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Void Manipulation, rolled +0)

Delfarius crosses to the charm with unhurried amusement, the healer’s basin still cooling at the side table. The sun-etched token warms once against his fingers, then goes slack as he turns it over toward Gregory.
He closes his hand. The charm crumbles at once into pale dust and ash, leaking through his palm and down onto the floor.

Delfarius
We do not need to involve Vale here right now, do we, Gregory?
Delfarius advances a step closer, grin sharpening as the last ash falls. The room’s warmth dulls, and the sun-mark on the table loses its pulse.

Gregory Giffsyn
Vale.
Gregory’s throat works on nothing. His ruined stump jerks against the cloth, and he stares at Delfarius with pain, fury, and the smallest flicker of hunted recognition.
The healer lingers in the doorway, watching that look land. The chamber feels like it has just heard a name it was not meant to hear.

Sun-etched charm
“I look back at the healer at the doorway and smirk. "Best to leave now, dear." I laugh low.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Delfarius glances back at the doorway, and the chamber seems to measure the cut of that look before he even speaks.

Delfarius
Best to leave now, dear.
His low laugh follows, quiet and sure, and the healer’s hand tightens on the frame as if the wood itself has gone cold.

Healer
They look ready to bolt.
The healer swallows, then steps backward at once, giving Delfarius and Gregory the room like a door opening wider to a blade.
Gregory shifts on the bench, stump twitching against the bloodied cloth, and his glare hardens on the retreating figure rather than on Delfarius.

Gregory Giffsyn
He drives them out on purpose.
The healer is gone into the corridor, and the chamber settles into a bare, listening hush, with only Gregory, Delfarius, and the cooling ash left behind.
“i stand over Gregory and laugh low. "Quite a mess you have gotten yourself in here. I was wondering what you have been doing since I was done torturing you." I reach towards his bloody stump. My smirk grows as I grab it causing new fresh pain to wrack through Gregory's body.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled -1)

Delfarius rises over Gregory’s bench and lets the laugh sit between them like a knife. His hand comes down on the bloody stump, and Gregory jolts with a raw, involuntary gasp, shoulders buckling against the leather straps.

Delfarius
Quite a mess you have gotten yourself in here. I was wondering what you have been doing since I was done torturing you.
Gregory’s eyes flare in furious pain. He cannot answer, only brace with his one good hand while the chamber’s warmth stays dead and the ash under the ruined charm lies pale at Delfarius’s feet.
Delfarius tightens his grip on the stump, dragging a fresh wave of agony through Gregory’s body. The knight’s spine arches once, then he claws hard at the bench edge, trying not to give the room the satisfaction.

Gregory Giffsyn
No more. I will not give him that.
The thought almost becomes a prayer, then a pale pressure gathers behind Gregory’s eyes. He locks onto Delfarius with a terrible, stubborn focus, as if some last light is forcing its way up through the blood.
The chamber answers with a thin tremor. The cracked stone rail outside gives a faint dusting at the doorway, and the silence turns sharp enough to cut, as Gregory’s refusal hangs there like a challenge.
“I laugh loudly at his refusal. Then I use my power to regrow his bloody stump back into his leg. The scar from where it was once removed still fresh on his skin. "Refuse that." I say with a smug grin.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Combat Magic, rolled +1)

Delfarius laughs, low and loud, and the chamber seems to flinch at the sound. Dark power gathers at his palm, then drives into Gregory’s ruined leg as blood reverses course and flesh answers the spell.

Delfarius
Refuse that.
The stump knits fast, bone threading under skin until the leg is whole again. A fresh scar still cuts the new flesh where the beast tore it away, raw and unmistakable.
Gregory jerks against the straps, staring down at the restored limb in stunned silence. His one good hand claws the bench edge, not in surrender, but to test that the leg truly bears weight.

Gregory Giffsyn
No more. I will not give him that.
A pale pressure gathers behind Gregory’s eyes. The dead warmth in the chamber does not return, but the air tightens around him, sharp as a held breath, and the cracked rail outside gives a faint dusting at the doorway.
“"Been here fighting for your supper since I dumped you away from my tower, eh? How very amusing." I lean in closer to him so he can notice the cold sparkle in my icy blue eyes. "You know I am the master of this arena, so if you defeat all the others, you would have to fight me. Is that why you fight here, because you want me to rip you to shreds in the arena in front of all the watching eyes?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -1)

Delfarius’s taunt lands, and Gregory’s ruined face tightens in a hard, silent stare. The room seems to listen for a tongue that is no longer there.

Delfarius
Been here fighting for your supper since I dumped you away from my tower, eh? How very amusing.
He leans in close enough for Gregory to catch the cold glint in his eyes. The healer’s chamber feels smaller for it, the ash at the floor trembling near the threshold.

Delfarius
You know I am the master of this arena, so if you defeat all the others, you would have to fight me. Is that why you fight here, because you want me to rip you to shreds in the arena in front of all the watching eyes?

Gregory Giffsyn
No tongue, no prayer, only breath and the scar of it. He wants a break, a surrender, anything the crowd can call an ending.
Gregory drags his restored leg under him and sits straighter on the bench, not yielding, but not flinching either. His one good hand tightens on the cloth as if he means to stand the moment the straps allow it.

Gregory Giffsyn
If he wants me broken, he will have to do it where everyone can see it.
Outside the chamber, the colosseum roar swells and then cuts thin, as if the arena itself is waiting on Gregory’s answer. A faint crack runs through the stone rail beyond the door, and the path back to the box feels suddenly like a claim rather than a refuge.
“"I can break you in there if you want me to so badly." I say answering his thoughts. "If it would make you feel prouder to die that way."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -1)

Delfarius’s words settle like iron in the small chamber. Gregory does not answer with speech, only a slow lift of his chin, the ruined mouth and hard eyes making the refusal feel sharper.

Delfarius
I can break you in there if you want me to so badly. If it would make you feel prouder to die that way.
Gregory’s good hand tightens on the bench. His restored leg draws under him, not to flee, but to brace, and the fresh scar across it catches the dull chamber light.

Gregory Giffsyn
No tongue, no prayer, only the choice to stand.
Outside the door, the colosseum roar surges, then gutters into a strained hush. The faint crack in the stone rail beyond the chamber deepens by a hair, as if the building itself feels the pressure.
Gregory drags himself upright on the bench, shoulders squared, blood drying on his skin. He faces Delfarius without speaking, his silence answering like a challenge.
A pale, stubborn flicker gathers in Gregory’s eyes, thin as a spark under ash. The room tightens around it, and the door feels like it may not stay merely a door much longer.
“I raise an eyebrow and place my hand on his shoulder. My power pulses through Gregory. His wounds are mended, even his tongue I cut and cauterized from his mouth. I laugh at his recognition that I could have done that at any time before. "Might as well have you at full strength when I cut you down in the arena."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Combat Magic, rolled +2)

Delfarius’s hand settles on Gregory’s shoulder, and dark power rolls through him in a cold, precise wave. The leg, the cuts, the cracked flesh, all of it knits shut under Delfarius’s touch.
The ruined mouth seals last. Hot shadow closes over the cut tongue, restoring it cleanly as Gregory draws a sharp, startled breath.
Gregory stares at him, jaw working once, then he swallows around the new tongue as if testing whether it belongs to him.

Gregory Giffsyn
You could have done that before.
Delfarius laughs, pleased with the timing of it, and the sound feels like a verdict dropping into the small room.

Gregory Giffsyn
Then why wait?
Gregory straightens on the bench, no longer shackled by the pain of his missing leg or his silenced mouth. His eyes lift with a hard, exposed kind of anger, and the colosseum beyond the door seems to hold its breath.
“I just laugh and take the bloody rag from his hands and toss it aside. "I will see you in the arena then." I say gesturing to him dismissively as I walk out towards the arena floor.”

Delfarius takes the cloth from Gregory’s fingers and lets it fall aside. He turns from the bench without haste, the healer chamber going tight and silent behind him as he heads for the arena door.

Delfarius
I will see you in the arena then.
He steps out into the brighter roar below, and the crowd swells as the chamber door closes on Gregory’s stare.
“I calmly walk out in the middle of the arena on the grounds. I raise my eyebrow at the workers cleaning up the blood from the last bout. I raise my hands to the stands so they can cheer or boo, which ever one they will.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Delfarius steps out onto the arena sand, the blood-wet ground opening around his boots as workers falter over their scraping buckets. The colosseum’s roar changes shape, some voices surging, some hissing, all of them turning toward him.
He lifts his hands slowly, and the stands answer in a rising wave of noise. Above the braying crowd, the cracked stone rail shivers once under the weight of the sound.
A pair of laborers freeze with sponges in hand, staring at the master on the sand as if they have been caught mid-prayer. One drops a rag into the crimson slush, and the splash is swallowed by the chant.
Gregory Giffsyn, still in the healer’s chamber doorway behind him, has not yet followed, but the arena’s attention has already seized him. The roar becomes a demand, not applause, and it hangs over the sand like a blade.
A herald at the rim of the box leans forward, startled by the sudden stillness in the center of the pit. He raises one hand toward the fighters’ gate, as if waiting for the next offering.
The crowd keeps shouting at Delfarius, hungry for a verdict. Somewhere in the roar, the first thin cry of a chant begins to form, asking the arena what comes next.
“I take a few steps back then wait to see if Gregory was all talk and rage, or if he truly wants to face me like this. I watch the doorway towards the healer's chamber to see if Gregory Griffsyn walks out, healed and in his entire holy garb. 'Let's see if the bravado was only for my eyes or if he is brave enough to make a spectacle of his death' I think to myself alone.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +0)

Delfarius steps back from the sand, just enough to make the doorway feel farther away. The workers stop scraping. The arena noise swells, then bends toward the healer’s chamber as if the whole colosseum is waiting on one body to cross the threshold.
The doorway stirs. Gregory Giffsyn appears in full holy garb, healed leg set beneath him and face hard with pain. He does not linger for the hall to admire him, he walks out into the open.
The crowd catches it at once, a fresh roar ripping across the pit. The cracked stone rail shivers again. One laborer drops a bucket and does not even look down.

Delfarius
Good. Walk farther.
Gregory keeps coming, straight toward the blood-wet center, holy cloth dragging the air behind him. His jaw is set, but the arena sees the limp in his certainty.
The Herald straightens at the rim of the box, startled into attention. 'Next offering, then,' they call, voice thin under the roar.
Gregory reaches the open sand and stops within sight of Delfarius, breathing hard and standing alone before the waiting crowd. The route from healer’s chamber to arena is now closed behind him, and the duel has become public.
“I look deeply into Gregory Giffsyn's eyes with a growing smirk on my face. "Good luck little mortal. I will go easy on you." I laugh at him then take a stance away from him. Let him come charging at me first, I think to myself.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)
Delfarius meets Gregory’s eyes and lets the smirk sharpen. The promise lands like a wound, and he eases back into a waiting stance, giving the knight the first move.

Delfarius
Good luck, little mortal. I will go easy on you.
A laugh slips out as the words settle. The crowd snarls for blood, but the duel’s center suddenly belongs to Delfarius’s patience.
Gregory tightens at the insult, then starts forward, holy garb dragging grit and old blood. His healed leg bears him, but every step looks chosen through pain.

Gregory Giffsyn
He wants the first strike to mean something.
Herald leans farther over the box rim, startled into stillness as the chamber of noise swells below. The cracked stone rail answers with another thin, ugly shiver.

Herald
Then let the next offering begin.
Gregory stops in the open sand and draws a hard breath, not breaking. The crowd roars for a verdict, but his gaze stays fixed on Delfarius, bright with a final, dangerous refusal.
“I stand in the far end from Gregory Giffsyn and just motion with my hand for him to come and dare to attack me. Gregory snarls at me and says something holy like and charges to attack me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Delfarius holds the far end of the sand like a judge at the edge of a blade, hand lifting once in a lazy summon. The roar of Serdain Gate swells, and the cracked rail shivers again above the box.

Gregory Giffsyn
Come then, monster. If this is your want, face me.
Gregory answers his own snarl with motion, driving hard into a charge across the sand. His healed leg takes the weight, then the whole arena seems to lean toward the impact.

Delfarius
He still runs at me.
The crowd rises into a single hungry bellow as Gregory closes the distance, holy garb snapping behind him. The master’s box creaks, and the stone rail deepens another ugly fraction under the force of the noise.
Herald straightens at the rim, startled by the sudden rush, then leans forward to catch the turn of it. He draws breath as if the next word must be named before the sand eats one of them.

Herald
By the arena’s law, the next offering stands or falls now.
Gregory is still charging, and the first collision is only a heartbeat away. Above them, the broken rail trembles, and the whole colosseum waits for whether the knight breaks or lights up the sand.
“At the last moment, with Gregory charging at me with a holy sword full of rage, I side step and let the attack eat sand instead of my flesh. I laugh. I reach behind him and give him a jab with my Obsidian dagger. Not to wound deeply just enough to let Gregory know I am toying with him.”
Critical hit for 5 damage — Gregory Giffsyn struck back but missed

Delfarius slips aside at the last instant, Gregory’s charge bites empty sand, and the Obsidian dagger flashes behind the knight’s back. It kisses through mail and cloth with a shallow, cruel jab, just enough to announce the hand that toys with him.

Gregory Giffsyn
Gregory hisses and stumbles a half-step, one hand jerking back as blood warms his side. He twists on the wounded breath, fury thinning into shock. "Enough..."
The crowd detonates into a roar at the missed kill, then falters as Gregory’s knees threaten to give. Above, the Herald freezes at the rail, staring down at the sand as the cracked stone deepens once more under the weight of the colosseum’s cry.
“I raise the dagger to my mouth and take a slow deliberate lick of Gregory's blood off of my dagger. "What's wrong little, tin can? Already had enough. You should know." I walk calmly towards him. "These matches are to the death."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled +1)

Delfarius drags Gregory’s blood along the dagger’s edge with a slow, deliberate lick, then steps forward as if the sand itself belongs to him. The crowd hears the insult in the motion before the words even land.

Delfarius
What is wrong, little tin can? Already had enough. You should know, these matches are to the death.
Gregory plants his feet through the pain, blood dark at his side, and keeps his head up. The charge in the arena turns into a stare-down, the kind that makes the whole colosseum lean closer.

Gregory Giffsyn
He is trying to make my blood do the talking for him.
Above, the Herald only watches and counts it cleanly, calling the match’s next offering to the crowd. The cracked stone rail groans deeper under the roar, then splits a little farther along its seam.

Gregory Giffsyn
If this is death, then come and earn it.
Gregory’s voice lands rough but steady, and the moment shifts. His hand tightens, then hesitates, as a pale pressure gathers around him from somewhere the crowd cannot see. Delfarius feels the arena answer and the next strike hangs open, waiting to be chosen.
“I kick his sword to his hands and smirk. "Then come and take it, if you dare, tin can." I laugh at him as he charges at me with his sword drawn. I do not attack him back as he drives the sword into my flesh. I want him to see how little harm it causes me.”
Critical hit for 6 damage — Gregory Giffsyn is down

Delfarius kicks Gregory’s blade loose and steps into it like the arena itself is his to command. Gregory lunges on instinct, sword driving in, but the steel meets almost no resistance before his body locks and the blood loss catches up.
Gregory staggers on the point of collapse, one hand slipping, the other trying to keep him upright as the crowd surges. His glare holds for a final heartbeat, then his knees fail and he crumples into the sand, the colosseum roaring over the crack in the stone rail.

Critical hit for 7 damage — Gregory Giffsyn is down

Delfarius closes the distance on Gregory’s fallen body and drives the stolen holy blade through his mouth and down into his heart. Blood bursts across Delfarius’s hands and chest in a hot red spray as Gregory’s body jerks once, then goes slack in the sand.
The arena holds a single stunned breath, then the crowd roars harder, swallowing the last twitch out of Gregory’s ruined form. Above them, the Herald leans over the rail, caught between announcement and awe as the cracked stone seam splits a fraction farther under the impact of the noise.

Holy sword
“I throw the holy sword aside and stand in front of Gregory's cooling body. I raise my hands and take in the praise. It is almost meaningful to me. I look back over my shoulder and look up to where my private box is. It is like I can see the echo of when I, Amama and Solan stood there in the long ago past. I laugh and walk over to Gregory's body and crush it under my foot.”

Delfarius tosses the holy sword aside, squares himself over Gregory’s cooling body, and lifts both hands to the roar. The crowd answers him like a tide, and the old box flashes through his mind as a hard, distant echo.
He laughs once, low and satisfied, then steps in and brings his boot down on Gregory’s ruined form, grinding the final stillness into the sand.
“As I step off Gregory's body, I crush his skull with my heel then walk out of the arena.”

Gregory’s skull gives under the heel, a final dull crack swallowed by the roar. Delfarius steps off the body and keeps walking as the sand settles around the ruin.
