The black vein leads Delfarius past the bedchamber and into the Archives' cold breath. Shelves rise like cliffs, and every spine seems to listen.

Then the walls answer. Hidden seams light up between the stacks, forming three narrow routes where no passage was before. The tower is opening again.

Delfarius

Delfarius

The routes are new. Or newly remembered.

Repine pads in at his heel, hackles low, blue eyes fixed on the nearest glowing seam. From the shelves, a whispering pressure gathers, hungry and patient.

You sealed one mouth. The Archives have many.

A star-cut diamond at Delfarius's hand answers with a faint, trapped glimmer. In the nearest shelf, iron tags twitch toward the open seams as if tugged by a buried memory.

Delfarius stands at the fork, with the Archives exposing its secret passages and its appetite at once. If he claims the routes now, he can trace what the tower keeps feeding on.

Trace what the tower keeps feeding on

"No." I look around at the room. Solan and Veyra are not there. The tower is trying to mess with me by showing me old wounds, especially with this false future with me. "I know what this hunger is...." I say in a low tone then ask the Archives to show me how Bram made his iron box that contained the storm of ancient hunger in it.

No answer is needed from the false future. Delfarius’s refusal lands, and the shelves seem to shrink away from it.

The Archives do not show Solan or Veyra. Their absence sharpens the room into proof, not memory.

I know what this hunger is. Show me how Bram made the iron box.

The nearest seam opens wider, and the black vein in the floor brightens into a thin guiding line.

Record-spines turn as one. Iron tags lift, then point toward a buried catalogue shelf sealed behind the stacks.

A memory slips free, not a voice but a craft, hammer marks around old iron, a lid nested over storm-hungry runes.

The tower yields the shape of Bram’s making. Delfarius now knows where the box’s pattern begins, and the Archives wait for his next command.
