Delfarius slips into the richest inn in Clernatcy like he belongs to the carved wood and velvet. Guards at the door barely glance at him. The hall breathes with perfume, spice, and old coin.
He takes a shadowed table in the back and lets his gaze travel the room. Nadron laughs too loudly with his sycophants, all polished teeth and easy vanity. Nearby, Faelwen sits demure and still, her eyes hunting for weakness.

The Tavern Maid
A carafe of black coffee, my lord?

Delfarius
Black coffee. Leave the carafe.
The maid sets it down and moves on. Delfarius watches her go, then studies the room again, measuring which smile hides hunger and which posture hides desperation.

The Tavern Maid
If you’re looking for company, my lord, the room is full of it. Some of it is even worth the coin.
Her words hang there as she passes. Delfarius remains still with his cup in hand, the tavern’s low gossip folding around him while one more glance from the shadows seems to land on his table.

“I laugh arrogantly at the maid's remark about me having to pay for company and dismiss her with a small gesture of my hand. I drop some light follower ashes into the carafe then stir them in with the spoon offered. I put the top back on then pour myself a cup. I look lazily over the room but my eyes linger on the other loud man near me. I smirk as his gaze meets mine. 'Oh he is perfect' I think to myself and my thoughts alone.”
Delfarius’s laugh slips out soft and rich, a brief dismissive flick of amusement. He waves the maid off, stirs the coffee dark with ash, and keeps his gaze on Nadron as the room glows around him.

Delfarius
Oh, he is perfect.
“I raise an eyebrow toward Nadron then look at the empty seat at my table. I take a sip of my coffee. 'Oh money does afford you so much better beans' I think to myself as I savor the dark and sacrilegious brew.”
Delfarius lifts one brow at Nadron, then lets his gaze drift to the empty seat beside him. He takes a slow sip of the ash-dark coffee and savors it, the brew rich enough to make mortal coin feel suddenly crude.

Delfarius
Better beans always know who paid for them.
“i wait for Nadron to make his way to my table, interested in the new stranger.”
Nadron rises from his table with an easy grin and crosses toward the back booth, while Faelwen keeps watching from across the room. The Tavern Maid slips past with her tray, leaving candlelight and coffee steam to gather around Delfarius.

Nadron
You left me curious. That usually means trouble, or better company.
He settles into the empty seat without asking permission, glancing once at Delfarius’s cup, then back to his face. The room stays warm and quiet, the open door spilling a pale strip of streetlight over the floorboards.
“I look over to him after taking another quiet sip. "I was wondering if you were the type that needed a formal invitation, or if my glance towards the chair was enough." I smirk with a flirtatious grin. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)
Delfarius takes a slow sip, then lets his gaze slide back to Nadron with a private, crooked smile. The ash-dark coffee steams between them, and the open door lays a pale band of streetlight across the floor.

Delfarius
I was wondering if you needed a formal invitation, or if my glance was enough.

Nadron
Nadron’s grin deepens as he leans an elbow on the table. "That depends. Were you inviting company, or measuring how fast I’d come over?"
Faelwen’s eyes lift from her drink across the room, alert and unreadable, while the Tavern Maid slips past behind the bar and pretends not to listen. Candlelight flickers over the booth, and the white cloth in the black-lashed box seems to stir in Delfarius’s memory like a sealed secret.

Nadron
"Either way, I’m here now." He tips his chin toward the cup. "That brew looks better than the company at my old table. You always drink like you expect poison, or is that just for show?"

Delfarius
Only when the room earns it.

Nadron
A low laugh escapes him. "Good. I’d hate for you to waste that look on a simple drink." He settles back, still openly studying Delfarius, amused and engaged. "So, tell me, mortal stranger, are you collecting names tonight, or companions?"

“I scoff a laugh. "Well, mortal stranger, you came to my table so I think you should be the one to offer up the name first? Hmm?" I take a sip of my coffee, my eyes still catching on the beautiful half elf across the way as well. 'She would also work.' I think delighted to my thoughts alone. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. I wait to Nedron to introduce himself to me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -1)
Delfarius’s laugh lands soft and sharp over the booth, and Nadron’s grin widens as if he has just been granted permission to enjoy himself. The coffee steams between them, and the door’s pale streetlight lies across the floor like a blade laid flat.

Delfarius
Well, mortal stranger, you came to my table, so you should offer your name first.

Delfarius
She across the room would also work.
Delfarius drinks without hurrying, all easy shoulders and lazy amusement, while his gaze lingers a beat too long on Faelwen. She notices, and her posture shifts from watchful to quietly aware, though she does not look away.

Nadron
Fair enough. Nadron, at your service, if service is what you want.

Nadron
And you are clearly no ordinary traveler. So tell me, do you always test a room before you let it know your real shape?

Faelwen
He does not look like a man who forgets what he sees.
Nadron glances past Delfarius toward Faelwen’s table, then back again with bright, amused interest. The Tavern Maid passes behind the bar with her tray, smiling faintly at the tension she pretends not to hear, while the white cloth in the black-lashed box seems to stir in Delfarius’s memory like something patient and sealed.

Nadron
If you are collecting names, start with mine. If you are collecting companions, I would rather know why I am being measured.
“"i measure everyone in the room, Nadron, so take no offense." I smirk with a calm suave ease to him. I smirk and raise an eyebrow with a sexual ease. "I myself am nine inches if we are measuring...how about yourself?" I say into my coffee cup, savoring the brew.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +1)
Delfarius lets the brew linger on his tongue, then answers Nadron with a mild, almost lazy smile. The lie of his mortal face stays smooth, but the corner of his mouth sharpens with private amusement.

Delfarius
I measure everyone in the room, Nadron, so take no offense. I myself am nine inches if we are measuring...how about yourself?
Nadron barks a low laugh and leans back, delighted rather than embarrassed. His eyes flick to the cup, then to Delfarius’s face, as if deciding whether to be charmed or cautious.

Nadron
That is a dangerous way to order coffee. I am large enough to answer for myself, and bold enough to admit I enjoy a man who speaks plainly.

Faelwen
He is not bluffing about anything small.
Across the room, Faelwen’s gaze stays fixed, her hand resting near her cup. The Tavern Maid slows by the bar for half a breath, amused by the shape of the conversation before moving on.

Nadron
If you are measuring, then measure me honestly, traveler. Tell me what you are seeing when you look at this room.
Delfarius lowers the cup a fraction, still smiling, and the open door spills cold streetlight across the table. Nadron waits in easy expectation, while Faelwen watches for the first true slip of that calm facade.
“"A feast for the eyes." I say my eyes lingering on Faelwen for a moment before returning to Nadron. "I hope my company pleases your eyes as well. Oh my manners, I am Farius." I smirk. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. I lean in closer to Nadron. "Have you ever shared a woman with another man?" I raise my eyebrow as a question and a challenge.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -3)

Delfarius leans in with that easy mortal smirk, and the booth seems to shrink around the question. His eyes flick to Faelwen, then back to Nadron, the glance brief but unmistakable.

Delfarius
A feast for the eyes. I hope my company pleases yours as well. Forgive my manners, I am Farius.
Nadron’s grin widens at once, but his gaze sharpens at the name. Faelwen’s cup pauses halfway to her lips across the room.

Delfarius
Have you ever shared a woman with another man?

Nadron
Bold, Farius. I have shared more than a cup and less than a secret, but never without a very clear invitation.

Faelwen
He says it like a game, but he watches like a judge.
Nadron gives a low laugh and sets one hand flat on the table, leaning closer as if accepting the challenge. The Tavern Maid stills by the bar for a breath, amused, while a little ash from Delfarius’s coffee smears the rim as his cup tilts.

Nadron
If you are asking whether I can keep pace, that is a different question. I think you already know the answer to the room, Farius.
“I laugh at his bold statement declaring that he finds me alluring and I look him deeply in his hazel eyes. "Well should we make this duo a trio then?" I say as I get closer to him and say it like an intimate whisper amongst lovers. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. I wait for his response as to whether he wants to add another to our dance.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +1)
Delfarius’s soft laugh slips across the table, all mortal ease and velvet menace, and he leans closer as if the booth belongs to him alone. The candlelight from the open door washes his face while Nadron holds his gaze, amused and waiting.

Delfarius
Well, should we make this duo a trio then?
His whisper lands like an invitation meant for one man and witnessed by the whole room. Nadron’s grin turns sharp with interest, and his hand slides a little farther across the table as though making room for a decision.

Nadron
That depends, Farius. Do you want a witness, or do you want me to choose one?

Faelwen
He says it boldly enough to be dangerous, but not clumsily. He is measuring both of them.
Faelwen’s cup settles back to the table with a faint click, her attention now fully committed. The Tavern Maid glances over once, then busies herself again, smiling to herself as the air at the booth tightens with deliberate intent.

Nadron
If I add someone, I want them worth the trouble. Tell me who you had in mind, and I will tell you whether I am tempted.
Nadron stays leaned in, openly entertained, while Faelwen watches him over the rim of her cup. The invitation is no longer a joke, and the table has turned toward Delfarius’s hand instead of away from it.

Draw Nadron into my orbit
“I smirk at Nadron as I stroke my chin hairs then say in a magical whisper to Faelwen's ears only, "Dear, would you like to join us at our table? You look awfully alone over there by yourself." I just take a sip of my coffee and wait to Faelwen to join us at my table.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -1)
Delfarius strokes his chin, then lets his gaze slide past Nadron and land on Faelwen with a soft, private weight. His whispered invitation reaches only her, while the room hears nothing but the clink of cup on saucer.

Faelwen
He makes it sound like courtesy. It is not.
Faelwen rises at once, chair scraping once against the floor, and smooths her skirt with cool composure. Nadron watches the movement with open interest, his grin sharpening as the table changes shape around Delfarius's calm.

Faelwen
If you are offering a seat, I will take it. I prefer to know exactly who is inviting me.
She crosses the room without haste and stops beside the booth instead of across it, claiming the space by standing near enough to choose her angle. The Tavern Maid glances over the rims of her eyes, then returns to her tray with a faint, approving smile.

Nadron
There. That is worth the trouble.
Faelwen lowers herself into the third seat, and the booth becomes a tighter little court around Delfarius. Candlelight catches the ash on his cup, the open door keeps spilling gold across the floor, and Faelwen studies him with careful, newly personal attention.
“"I am Farius, dear. And this is Nadron." I smirk and take another sip of my coffee. I look at both of them with no drinks. I laugh a bit brightly. "Again, my manners, would you like me to order you both a drink. I would share my coffee, but I won't." I grin and pull the carafe closer to me. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses.”

Delfarius
I am Farius, dear. And this is Nadron.
He takes another sip of coffee, then laughs lightly and pulls the carafe closer, all mortal ease and polished manners.

Delfarius
My manners, would you like me to order you both a drink? I would share my coffee, but I won't.

Nadron
That sounds fair enough to me. I like a man who keeps one hand on the prize.

Faelwen
Then order something for us, Farius. If you are going to curate the table, I want to see what else you choose to keep.
“I raise an eyebrow and regard them both with an unreadable expression. I call for the barmaid to come here then I order them both the most expensive versions of their perfered drinks. I sit back in the booth and take another sip of my coffee. 'Hmm dark, rich and sacrilegious. Almost as good as the Forge brew...almost.' I think to my thoughts alone. Faelwen and Nadron remark on my great tastes and ask me questions about myself, and why I am in the city.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +3)
Delfarius lifts one brow, unreadable as old stone, and lets the silence hang just long enough to make them wait.
He calls for the barmaid, then names the finest drink for each of them without looking away from the pair.
The request lands. The barmaid turns at once, and the room notices the choice as if it were a small coronation.
Delfarius leans back into the booth and takes another sip, dark coffee and ash on his tongue. The taste is rich, sacrilegious, and almost enough to recall the Forge brew.

Nadron
That is a proper beginning. You have taste, Farius.

Faelwen
And nerve. That matters more than taste. Why are you in Clernatcy, really?
The barmaid returns with two costly pours, setting them down like offerings. Nadron smiles into the steam, Faelwen studies Delfarius over the rim of her glass, and both wait for the answer he chooses to give.
“I take out a heavy coin purse and set some besides for the barmaid then dismiss her with a wave of my hand. I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. A very rich mortal. I raise my eyebrow at them both. "Thank you, Nadron. I would hope to say so considering the company I find myself in." I take another sip, then look to Faelwen. "Why do you say I have nerve, my dear? Did my order for your drink offend you?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)
Delfarius slides a heavy purse onto the table and tips a few bright coins to the barmaid. He flicks her away with an easy hand, all silk manners and mortal ease.
The barmaid accepts the payment and withdraws at once, leaving candlelight and steam to settle back over the booth. No one in the room sees anything but a rich traveler with good posture and a sharper purse.

Delfarius
Thank you, Nadron. I would hope so, considering the company I keep.
He takes another measured sip, then turns that raised brow toward Faelwen like a knife wrapped in velvet.

Delfarius
Why do you say I have nerve, my dear? Did my order offend you?

Faelwen
No offense. You paid with one hand and watched us with the other. That is nerve, or confidence, or both.

Nadron
And here I thought it was simply excellent taste. She is right, though, you make every room feel inspected.
Faelwen’s glass tilts slightly as she studies him over the rim, intrigued rather than displeased. Nadron leans back with a slow smile, clearly drawn closer by the ease of Delfarius’s answer.
“I sigh and appear to ease my shoulders a bit. "Sorry old habit to knock. I do apologize. I am use to having to keep an eye about myself." I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. I lean into the table and smirk at them both. I look back to Faelwen. "I hope you do not fault me for letting my eyes linger on your beauty however." My smile is suave and easy.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +2)

Delfarius eases back in the booth, shoulders loosening just enough to pass for careless. The apology lands in the warm hush between coffee steam and candlelight, and the room seems to listen a little harder.

Delfarius
Sorry, old habit to knock. I do apologize. I am used to keeping an eye about myself.
Nadron’s smile widens at the candor, and Faelwen’s glass lowers a finger’s breadth as she studies him with sharpened interest.

Delfarius
I hope you do not fault me for letting my eyes linger on your beauty however.

Faelwen
Fault you? No. That was a clean confession, and a rarer thing than flattery.

Nadron
He is not wrong, either. You keep looking like a man who expects the room to answer him.
Nadron leans forward onto the table now, drawn in rather than held at distance. Faelwen’s half-smile warms, and the open doorway spills gold across the floor as the booth turns into a private little court.
“"If I was the type of man to expect the room to answer me, what do you think it would say?" I am just a mortal man to mortal eyes and mortal senses. I lean back and wait to hear their responses to my question amused.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -1)

Delfarius
If I was the type of man to expect the room to answer me, what do you think it would say?
Delfarius leans back, amused, as the booth falls quiet around the question. Candlelight catches the ash on his cup, and the open door spills a soft stripe of gold across the floor.

Nadron
It would say you expect to be obeyed, and that you enjoy finding out who does it first.

Faelwen
It would say you are careful, which is either wisdom or practice. I have not decided which.

Nadron
He is fishing, and I am still in the water. Fine. Let him tug.
Nadron’s grin turns sharper, more personal, while Faelwen sets her glass down with deliberate neatness. The two of them keep their attention on Delfarius as if the answer belongs to him now.

Faelwen
The room would also say you are not merely passing through. Men who watch like that are usually looking for a door, or for someone worth opening one.
