Delfarius steps from the shimmering mirror into the sun-drenched halls as they were before his final ascension. His younger self stands by the workbench, with Solan at his shoulder and Neron watching warily.

Delfarius

Delfarius

Do you still have the iron box Bram kept? I have need of it.

His past self reaches beneath the bench and sets the iron box into view. Beside it, a shallow bowl of ash trembles, then sorts itself into pale and black strands, as if the tower still remembers allegiance.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

Why do you want it?

Delfarius

Delfarius

The ash is not dead. It is choosing.

Delfarius leaves his own iron box in the present and crosses back through the mirror, returning to that older room with the cold certainty of a wound reopened on purpose. Solan is there, and his expression goes flat as he looks him over.

Delfarius turns to Neron with a sneer, then closes the distance to his past self, smile thin and bright as a blade. The ash in the bowl lifts in a faint spiral between them, waiting to be marked.

✓ Quest Accepted

Obtain the Iron Box from Past Delfarius

I see Past Delfarius give Solan a concerned look then say he says to me, "But if we let it go in the past, I will need this to contain it, won't I?" I walk closer to him and hold my hand on his shoulder and smile at him with understanding. I let my Past Delfarius feel my power and the truth of it then say to Past Delfarius, "And if I carry it forward for you, then you do not need to pretend you were ever alone in the choice."

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

But if we let it go in the past, I will need this to contain it, won't I?

Delfarius closes the last step of distance and lays a steady hand on his younger shoulder. The touch does not demand, it settles, and the room seems to feel the weight of it.

Power passes between them without a flare, only a cold, unmistakable certainty. Past Delfarius's posture eases by a fraction, as if some private strain finally has a name.

Delfarius

Delfarius

And if I carry it forward for you, then you do not need to pretend you were ever alone in the choice.

Solan

Solan

He looks from one Delfarius to the other, face tight with recognition he does not like having.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

The answer lands in him like ash settling. He does not pull away from the hand on his shoulder.

The bowl of ash gives a soft, dry whisper as the pale strands curl inward. The iron box waits on the bench, silent, while the past keeps its breath and listens.

Past Delfarius narrows his eyes at me and I recognize it for what it is immediately. I let my hand go from his shoulder and say to Past Delfarius "You are checking whether I am false. I know that look. I have been asked it before, from both sides of a crack." I smirk a bit then say to Past Delfarius. "This mirror does not flatter me. It only shows what survives." Behind us, Neron passes out softly and Solan watches us both, a bit of shame and mistrust rising about me. Solan knows I am from the future. He knows I know what he is doing.

You are checking whether I am false. I know that look. I have been asked it before, from both sides of a crack.

Delfarius

Delfarius

This mirror does not flatter me. It only shows what survives.

Delfarius lets go of the shoulder and the past version of himself straightens on his own, as if the release is permission rather than loss. The iron box rests between them on the bench, caught in the ash-light.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

Then the reflection is not a lie. It is a warning I already am.

Neron slumps fully unconscious against the rear shelves, breath slow and even. Solan watches the exchange with a hard little swallow, shame and mistrust crossing his face together.

Solan

Solan

He speaks like someone who has already crossed this room and come back colder.

Past Delfarius looks from the box to Delfarius, and the fear in him changes shape into clear, sober attention. The mirror stall behind them catches a hungry glint for one brief heartbeat, then goes still.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

Then tell me what I survive, if you are not here to flatter me.

I break Solan's eyesight and turn my back to him and show Past Delfarius my bare chest, no scar from when we fought Solan and had to tear out our own heart to stop Solan from his mad plan. I lean in so only Past Delfarius can hear my words alone, "Some wounds need more time to heal properly." Behind me Solan asks what I am showing him. I see Past Delfarius look at my bare chest then narrow his eyes looking at Solan behind me.

Delfarius turns his back on Solan and opens himself to the older mirror-light, bare chest bared in calm defiance. The absence of the old scar catches the pale glow, clean skin where ruin should be.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

No scar... then this life does not end where mine did.

Solan

Solan

What are you showing me?

Past Delfarius looks past Delfarius’s shoulder, then down at the unmarked chest, his eyes narrowing as Solan’s voice finds him behind that offered proof. The ash in the bowl tightens into a thin, obedient spiral.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

He is showing me what survives, and what does not.

The younger man’s expression hardens into sober understanding, not fear. Behind him, the mirror stall gives one small hungry glint, then settles back into dim gold.

New Gift: Temporal Echo Resonance

I reach out and take his hand and look him deeply in the icy blue eyes and say like a vow, ""You will be whole one day without the pain." I let the wholeness of my power, controlled contained without hunger or pain of the past sadness. Past Delfarius looks at my icy blue eyes recognizing that I did give him a vow I intend to keep. Solan walks in and looks at my bare chest then gives Past Delfarius a expression and asks me why Past Delfarius should trust me and what he thinks I am doing. I remark to the room. "Then trust what you can see. I am not asking for faith, only recognition."

Delfarius closes his hand around Past Delfarius’s and lets the force in him stay still, contained and cold. The older mirror-light along his skin does not bite. It simply answers.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

A vow without hunger... and still it reaches.

Past Delfarius meets his eyes, and something in him eases into recognition rather than surrender. The ash bowl keeps its thin spiral, patient as a held breath.

Solan

Solan

Why should he trust you? What are you doing?

Delfarius

Delfarius

Then trust what you can see. I am not asking for faith, only recognition.

The words land cleanly. Past Delfarius looks from Delfarius’s face to the steady shape of his power, and the tension in his shoulders shifts into guarded assent. Solan’s gaze drops to the bare chest, then back to the two mirrored men, measuring what kind of truth can survive a room like this.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

If that is true, then leave me this: proof that I do not have to become him alone.

Past Delfarius notices that Neron has passed out and goes over to him and checks him. I cross my arms and regard Solan with a cold smirk and tilt my chin up. "Of course He does not trust me." Solan looks at me with growing distrust and anger and demands to know why that matters. Past Delfarius just watches me and Solan, his eye narrowing trying to read the situation.

Of course. He does not trust me.

Delfarius folds his arms and lifts his chin, the smirk on his mouth turning cold as he regards Solan like an inconvenience already measured.

Solan

Solan

Why should that matter? Why do you keep acting like trust is the only thing in the room?

Past Delfarius breaks away from the workbench and crosses to Neron’s slumped body, his hand going to the man's throat and jaw with quick, practiced care.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

He is breathing. Barely. But he is here.

Solan’s face tightens with anger at the answer, then hardens into something more guarded as he waits for Delfarius to explain himself.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

You speak as if it is irrelevant. It is not. Tell me what this means.

I scoff once at Solan's rising anger then calmly and coolly walk over to Neron. I pull the curse of the Endless Archives from him and dissolve it into harmless icy mist that disappears. "There is more." I say to Past Delfarius and pull his to touch my chest where there is a heart beat where he has none. Solan watches and demands that I explain all of it. Past Delfarius is looking at me with a shocked and awed expression on his face.

SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +1)

Delfarius lets out a single dry scoff, then moves past Solan and kneels beside Neron. He lays two fingers on the unconscious man and draws the curse upward in a thin, pale thread.

The sickness peels free at once, unraveling into harmless icy mist that beads and vanishes above the workbench. Neron’s breathing steadies, shallow but clean.

Delfarius

Delfarius

There is more.

Delfarius reaches back and takes Past Delfarius by the wrist, guiding his hand to the center of his own chest.

Under the skin, a living heartbeat answers, warm and stubborn, where the younger man has only silence to remember.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

A heartbeat. Impossible... unless this version survives what I do not.

Solan

Solan

Explain it. All of it.

Past Delfarius just looks at me and says in awe to me, "How...how?" I smirk and tilt towards him with a sparkle in my Icy eyes. "I look out for who is really important to me." Solan demands I speak plainly and asks why the box, and a missing scar matter at all. which I laugh shortly then Past Delfarius says that it matters to him. I regard the room and say calmly "Good. I only speak to the important people in the room."

Delfarius gives a short, dry laugh, then lets the room feel how little the question weighs him.

The words land cleanly. Solan goes still, and the Archive seems to take that as law. The ash tightens around the iron box, while Neron, now fully healed, watches from the shelves in grim, focused silence.

Solan looks to Past Delfarius and says, "I know what it costs you. I do not mistake the scar for the whole wound." I walk over closer to Past Delfarius and hold him gently, knowing the pain he felt because I once too shared it and say softly to Past Delfarius protectively, "That is the part he cannot feel from where he stands. Forgiveness is not the same as surviving the choice" Neron wonders if I am from the same truth, the same past as this Past Delfarius I sigh. Behind us Solan is getting more distrustful of me and what I know.

Delfarius steps in beside Past Delfarius, close enough to steady him, and the old mirror-light across the room softens around the gesture.

Delfarius

Delfarius

That is the part he cannot feel from where he stands. Forgiveness is not the same as surviving the choice.

Past Delfarius

Past Delfarius

Surviving the choice... yes.

Past Delfarius leans into the hold instead of away from it, his shoulders lowering as if some hidden strain finally finds a place to rest.

Neron

Neron

Are you the same truth as him, then... the same past?

Delfarius exhales, and the ash over the iron box loosens into a calmer spiral while Solan’s stare hardens from curiosity into open suspicion.

I walk over to Neron and pull my sleeve up and let my Ink-Touched blood bloom into script that an archivist can read easily. "Read my truth." I say to Neron. Neron looks it over his expression sharpening as he read then his lips get tight like he does when he sees a truth, then Neron says to the room, "This blood carries the same truth as yours. The record does not split here." Solan scoffs and stammers trying to deny the plain truth, "It could still be different. I do not trust him. Delfarius, take my side." Past Delfarius looks at me regarding Solan with a cold knowing expression. Solan's remarks do not effect me.

Delfarius crosses to Neron’s shelf-side space and bares his wrist, letting dark ink bloom through the skin into crisp lines the archives would trust.

Read my truth.

Neron leans in, eyes tracking the script stroke by stroke. His mouth tightens, and the hush around the workbench feels suddenly official.

Neron

The words land hard. Solan scoffs, but the sound breaks in his throat when he cannot shape a clean denial.

Solan

Solan

It could still be different. I do not trust him. Delfarius, take my side.

Past Delfarius turns that plea over with a cold, studying look. On the workbench, the iron box gives a faint answering click, and the nearby catalogue shelf trembles as if a hidden ledger has just been addressed.

Past Delfarius steps closer and then looks down at his own arm with the exact Ink-blood script then hands the Iron Box that Bram once held to me, then he stands next to me "I'm sorry Solan. I trust myself to take care of this in the future." I nod to my past self and say calmly to him. "You gave it willingly. That matters." I turn to Solan and say into his head and his ears only while I give him a smug cold, malicious smirk. 'I will see you soon, and I will have you on my collar before long, fool.' To the room I say outloud. "If you want the truth of me, watch what I do with it."

Delfarius takes the box without hesitation. The metal is cold through his fingers, and the old script on his wrist dims as the transfer settles.

Delfarius

Delfarius

You gave it willingly. That matters.

Solan

Solan

You speak as if that is enough to make this right.

Delfarius turns toward Solan with a thin, cruel smile and lets the threat sit in the air between them, private and sharp. Solan’s jaw hardens, but he does not look away.

Delfarius

Delfarius

If you want the truth of me, watch what I do with it.

Past Delfarius studies him, then looks to the box in Delfarius’s hand with a troubled, knowing stillness. The archive shelf behind him gives one small, buried shiver, and the mirror stall catches a hungry glint before going quiet.

I look to Past Delfarius and say, "It shows the Tower what you are willing to lose." I turn and look at Solan with a knowing smug expression, to his mind his thoughts alone I tell Solan that I can not wait to rip his tongue out so I do not have to hear his stupid voice. I throw my head back and laugh dark and loud like thunder and then say to the room "And what you are willing to gain." Solan reaches towards me with a violent potent magical punch of Light as He flares like the sun. Past Delfarius gets in the way, trying to stop Solan, taking the whole hit of the spell that will harm him the most.
