A week’s distance softens nothing. From the ridge above Sharley Field, Delfarius watches lanterns, ribbons, and harvest tables gather in the sun while the town laughs below.
Repine crouches at his side, inky shoulders quivering, eyes bright with the smell of easy joy. Below, the festival keeps building toward its bright little lie.

Delfarius
Would be a shame if someone went down there and disrupted their happy little affair.

Repine
A hunt, then. Yes.

Repine
So many warm names. So many ways to break them.
The words sink into the air like a hook. Far below, the town’s banner line stirs in the breeze, and one white ribbon at the festival square flutters oddly, as if listening.

Shatter Sharley Field’s sense of safety
“I laugh and walk down the hill, unashamed of who sees me. I do not hide who I am. What is the worse that could happen, a godling show up?”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Delfarius steps out from the ridge grass with open ease, as if the whole hill belongs to him.
Repine rises with him, shadow-sleek and silent, then lopes a pace behind, eyes fixed on the glittering square below.
Festival laughter drifts up the slope, but it thins when the first villagers notice the dark figure descending in plain sight.

Repine
They smell you now.
A pair of children stop by a ribbon pole, one dropping a basket as the adults turn toward the hill.
The white ribbon in the square snaps hard in the wind, and the banner line shivers as if it has heard a name it hates.
Delfarius keeps walking, unhidden and unhurried, while the town’s easy cheer gives way to staring silence.
“"My invitation must have gotten lost." I laugh as I walk up to the table with food and take a cookie and munch on it. "What are we exactly celebrating this time? Did someone have a successful shit?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)
Delfarius reaches the harvest table as if he has every right to the cloth and platters. His hand closes on a cookie, and he takes a bite without asking.

Delfarius
My invitation must have gotten lost. What are we celebrating this time, did someone have a successful shit?
A few villagers flinch, then a rough laugh escapes one of the older hands despite himself. The nearest woman stares at Delfarius as if deciding whether to be offended or relieved.

A Baker
We are celebrating the last grain in the loft and the first cask uncorked since midsummer. You walk in like a storm and call it a joke.

A Miller
It is a very ugly joke, but he did not lie about the mood.
The white ribbon in the square keeps snapping overhead, but the sound now mingles with nervous chuckles and uncertain silence. Several children peek from behind the adults, watching Delfarius with wide, startled eyes.

A Baker
He eats like he owns the table. Worse, he talks like he already knows we will let him.

“I turn to the baker and smirk. "A delightful cookie you made, I must have the recipe." I reach out with my hand and take the recipe from her mind. "Ah nutmeg, that is what was tingling at the back of the tongue." I say laughing.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Delfarius
A delightful cookie. I must have the recipe.
Delfarius's hand lifts, and the baker's memory yields like warm dough beneath his touch. Flour, spice, and careful measurements spill into him in a clean rush.

Delfarius
Nutmeg.

Delfarius
Ah. Nutmeg. That is what was tingling at the back of the tongue.

A Baker
You took that from me so neatly I almost did not feel it. Gods, your manners are terrible.

A Miller
He says it like a compliment. I think that is the worst part.
Repine watches the exchange with bright, feral approval, while the nearest children stare at Delfarius as if he has just pulled moonlight out of a pocket.

A Baker
If you want the recipe, stranger, you should at least tell me whether you truly mean to eat with us... or only from us.
“"Hmm the question all you little mortals should be asking yourself is if I only eat your foods, or if I feast on your souls instead." I throw my head back and let a low ancient laugh out of me. Repine matches my mood by letting out a baleful howl.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -3)

Delfarius
Hmm. The question you little mortals should be asking yourselves is whether I only eat your food, or feast on your souls instead.
Delfarius throws back his head and laughs, low and ancient, and the sound rolls through the square like winter through grain stores. Repine answers with a baleful howl that makes the nearest lantern flames twitch.

A Baker
Well. That is the worst answer I have heard all season.

A Miller
He says it as if he is doing us a kindness.
The baker’s mouth tightens, but she does not step back. A few villagers laugh once, sharply and nervously, then stop when they hear themselves. The white ribbon overhead snaps harder in the wind.

A Baker
If you mean to frighten us, stranger, you have. If you mean to break us, you should at least be honest about which of us you want first.
Repine’s shadow presses longer across the table, and the children who were staring at Delfarius now stare at the hound instead. The harvest food sits untouched between them, suddenly looking like an offering.

A Miller
Go on then. Say it plain. Are we guests, prey, or witnesses?

Terrify the villagers of Sharley Field

“i gesture lazily with my other hand and the sun blots out of the sky in a total eclipse with a blood red halo around the darkness where the sun once was. I eat the cookie in one bite then look towards the Miller and the baker with a dark laugh. "Plainly, you are my feast. I am here to snuff out this little bright lie." Repine jumps towards one of the children and snaps it's neck with ease.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Delfarius lifts a lazy hand, and the afternoon light gutters out. A blood-red halo crowns the dark where the sun was, and the square drops into stunned twilight.
He bites through the cookie in one sharp motion, crumbs gone. Repine springs forward, a black blur, and the children’s shrieks cut the harvest noise in half.

A Baker
No. No, no...

A Miller
He means it.
The baker recoils, hands flying to the table edge. The miller loses his dry ease, staring up into the eclipsed sky as if it has turned against him.

Delfarius
Plainly, you are my feast. I am here to snuff out this little bright lie.
Repine’s lunge snaps the square’s courage clean in two. The white ribbon thrashes overhead, the lanterns dim, and the villagers pull back as one from the table and the hound.

Terrify the villagers of Sharley Field
“I throw back my head in delight at the gathered mortals panic and fear and say matter factly. "Well, run." I reach towards a woman who is in my path and seer her face with a touch of my void frosted hands.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Delfarius
Well. Run.
Delfarius reaches into the nearest fleeing woman’s path, and his void-frosted hand seals over her face. Her breath catches under his palm as frost spiders over her skin.
The touch takes, and so does the scream behind her eyes, a shiver of memory or fear yanked raw into the open. A thin rime crawls over Delfarius’s fingers, biting cold into his knuckles.

A Baker
He is taking her.

A Miller
Get away from her!
The miller moves at last, one step forward and one step too late, as the square recoils around the table. The white ribbon whips harder overhead, snapping like a warning lash in the red dark.
Repine checks his lunge only long enough to glance back at Delfarius, then prowls lower, ready to spring again. The villagers pull back in a widening ring, leaving the harvest table and the Unmaker alone at the center of the twilight.

Mark Sharley Field for my dominion
“I crush the woman's brittle skull like breaking ice with a vice. Repine grabs the child and pins him down in his maw, growling low and feral at the delight of the child's panic.”
Critical hit for 3 damage — the woman struck back but missed

Delfarius closes his hand and drives the woman down as if her skull were thin ice. The blow lands with a wet crack, and her knees fold under her. She chokes on the impact, one hand lifting weakly toward him before she sags, ruined and reeling at his feet.

A Baker
Stop... please. I cannot...
Repine lunges past the harvest table and slams the child flat beneath his maw, pinning them in place with a low, hungry growl. The child’s terror flashes bright in the red twilight as the miller half turns, frozen between a shout and a retreat. Above them, the white ribbon snaps so hard it nearly tears free, and the villagers’ widening ring tightens into panicked silence.
“I hold my hand out in front of the woman with a grin that is like a executioner's axe. I tilt my head to the side and absorb the baker's soul. "Thanks for the cookie, and your soul."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Delfarius
Thanks for the cookie, and your soul.
Delfarius holds his hand out before the Baker, grinning like an executioner’s axe, and tilts his head as if listening to a door unlatch inside her.
Her breath catches. The fear in her face thins, then pulls inward, drawn into his palm as the red eclipse shivers over Sharley Field.
The taking settles fast and clean. The Baker’s body goes slack on one knee, while Delfarius keeps the last of her warmth and memory tucked behind his smirk.

A Baker
No, wait...
Repine lifts his head from the child with a low, satisfied rumble, scenting the change at Delfarius’s hand.

A Miller
What are you doing to them?
The villagers recoil another step, and the white ribbon snaps overhead like a flag being claimed.
“"A feast!" I proclaim to the scattering mortals loudly and proudly. "A feast in honor of the Unmaker!" I grab a fleeing farmer and snap his neck roughly, his arterial blood flashing over my face. Repine snaps the neck of the child and snaps on his body like it is a fine meal.”
Critical hit for 5 damage — a fleeing farmer struck back but missed

Delfarius drives through the fleeing man with ruthless speed, the kill landing before the crowd can find its breath. The farmer’s failed swing dies with him, and his body folds hard as blood flashes across Delfarius’s face. Around the square, boots skid, skirts whirl, and the white ribbon snaps overhead like something being claimed by the storm.

A Miller
What are you doing to them?
The Miller’s outrage lands into the widening panic, but no one answers him. Repine tightens over the child, feral and pleased, while the villagers recoil another step from the harvest table. Lantern flames gutter under the blood-red eclipse, and the square keeps pulling apart in fear.
““"A feast!" I proclaim to the scattering mortals loudly and proudly. "A feast in honor of the Unmaker!" I laugh loudly and let the sound echo around the village like thunder aproaching.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)

Delfarius
A feast. For the Unmaker.
The name cracks through the square like a bell struck in a crypt. Several villagers stop mid-step, not from courage, but from the force of hearing it aloud.

A Miller
You do not get to bless our homes with that name.
Repine lifts his muzzle from the child and pads forward, silent and eager. The white ribbon above the tables snaps so hard it twists like a struck lash.

A Farmer
He speaks like the field already belongs to him.
At the square’s edge, shutters slam shut one by one. Hands pull children back, and the harvest table now looks less like a celebration than a claim laid in public.
The red eclipse deepens over Sharley Field, and the villagers keep staring between Delfarius and the darkened sky as if both now answer to the same master.
“I catch a fleeing man and Void crawls up the man's body. The man convulses violently until it is finally still, his soul drifting towards me as I absorb it. I look to the Farmer and laugh. "It is because the field already does belong to me. Who do you think made it?" I laugh loudly at him as I calmly walk up the the farmer who is still barely alive and step on his head with a satisfying crunch.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Combat Magic, rolled -2)

Void climbs the fleeing man like spilled ink. His legs lock, then shudder, and he folds into the dirt as the dark takes his breath and name alike.
The soul peels loose toward Delfarius, thin and silver in the eclipse light. The red halo overhead seems to tighten in approval.

A Miller
That is murder in our square.
Delfarius laughs at the Miller and strides past the dying man without hesitation, each step calm, claimed, and deliberate.

Delfarius
It already belongs to me. Who do you think made it?
The farmer recoils, then freezes as Delfarius reaches the fallen man and brings his boot down on the skull with a wet, final crack.
The white ribbon whips overhead like a banner being whipped into submission. Around the square, doors slam, and the villagers stop thinking of this as a festival.
“"Oh come on, don't hide in your homes instead of outside where the festival is just getting started!" I throw my head back and Void Fire starts to catch the houses with it black cold flames. The doors they locked to keep them safe now become the cages where they perish. I walk up to the miller and laugh. "A mur-dur. In the village square. Oh no!" I say sarcastically.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Combat Magic, rolled +1)

Void fire leaps from Delfarius’s lifted laugh and races the eaves. Black flame licks thatch, then window frames, turning the locked houses into bright cages of smoke.

Delfarius
Oh come on, don't hide in your homes instead of outside where the festival is just getting started!
The square answers with screams from behind the doors. Repine prowls closer to the miller, ears forward, body low with delighted hunger.

Delfarius
A mur-dur. In the village square. Oh no!

A Miller
You burn our homes and call it a joke.
Delfarius strides up to her through the first falling sparks, grin sharp as a blade. More roofs catch behind him, and the white ribbon whips above the square like it is being lashed into surrender.
Lantern light gutters under the red eclipse as the villagers scatter from the harvest table. Sharley Field stops feeling like a festival and starts feeling like a conquered pyre.
“I look to Repine and say outloud to him, "Go hunt, have your fill of their fragile flesh." I turn towards the miller who is still talking at me instead of fleeing. "Brave or stupid, I can not decide."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Repine’s head turns at once, ears pricked, and he tears away from the miller’s side toward the fleeing villagers. Black flame crawls higher on the nearest roof while smoke thickens over the square.

Repine
Mine.

Delfarius
Go hunt. Have your fill of their fragile flesh.

Repine
Gladly.
The shadow hound surges into the scattering crowd, low and feral, while the miller squares herself in the firelight instead of fleeing.

Delfarius
Brave or stupid, I cannot decide.

A Miller
I am still here because this is my field, and my people are still in it.
Her words hang over the square as more villagers bolt for the lanes. Above them, the white ribbon snaps hard enough to rattle the festival poles, as if the town itself is being tied into Delfarius’s claim.
“"For now." I laugh.”

Delfarius laughs into the firelight while the miller stands her ground, and the white ribbon snaps overhead like a leash being tested.

Delfarius
For now.

Delfarius
He lets the laugh linger.

A Miller
Then take your for now and be honest about it, Unmaker. I am still here.
