Navigating the Subterranean Maintenance Tunnels

Seth and Miller burst through the rusted vent grate, tumbling into the humid, subterranean gloom of the Sector 4 maintenance tunnels. The air here tastes of ozone and stagnant water, heavy with the muffled vibrations of the surface conflict. Behind them, the sounds of shouting Saviors fade into the distance, replaced by the rhythmic dripping of pipes.

Seth

Seth

We made it. Keep your head low, Miller. The tunnels are the only way to reach the main wall without being spotted by their scouts.

Miller

Miller

The Colt is ready, Seth. I don't care how many of them are out there, they aren't taking me without a fight.

The group navigates the cramped, moss-covered concrete arteries. Ahead, the tunnel light shifts from pitch black to the sickly, flickering orange glow of a gas main fire. They have reached the subterranean junction, but the path forward is blocked by a massive pile of rubble. Seth spots a flickering emergency light reflecting off a puddle of oil, revealing a hidden, narrow passage behind the collapse.

You head that way with Stella I'll keep on this path with Carl we need to find some kind of maybe riot gear or some kind of armor to help with the war on negan

Seth

Look, Miller. The blast cracked the storage casing beneath the debris. That’s riot gear, reinforced plating. If we salvage this, we don't just survive the next push against Negan—we dominate it.

Miller

Miller

That's a hell of a find, Seth. We need to move fast. If the Saviors hear us rummaging in this junction, they'll collapse the rest of the tunnel on our heads.

Seth

Seth

You take the left flank with that gear, secure the chest pieces. I’ll keep watch on the main corridor with the AK. We move once you're strapped in. No mistakes.

Seth

Seth

The plating looks heavy, but it’s high-grade. This is the edge we need to turn the tide of this war. I can see the outline of a full tactical vest under the twisted steel.

Miller scrambles toward the breach, his fingers grazing the cold, matte-black composite of the armor. Suddenly, a metallic clatter echoes from the deeper darkness of the tunnel behind them, followed by the unmistakable sound of a heavy door hinge groaning open.

Seth

Stay sharp, Miller. That gear is high-grade. If we can get it on before whatever is coming around that corner hits us, we’ll be walking through those walkers like ghosts.

Miller

Miller

Already on it, boss. This plate is heavy, but it’s going to stop a knife or a tooth.

Seth slides the heavy tactical vest over his bomber jacket, his movements fluid and precise. Miller buckles his chest piece with shaking fingers, his gaze fixed on the shadows. The groan of the metal door intensifies, shifting from a slow crawl to a sudden, violent screech of rusted iron against concrete. A dark silhouette spills into the tunnel, followed by a wet, guttural hiss that vibrates through the floorboards.

Seth

Seth

Whatever opened that door isn't a Savior. That sound... it’s too hungry.

Miller

Miller

Seth, look! The shadows—there’s more than one of them.

A swarm of walkers emerges from the gloom, their eyes reflecting the dim emergency lighting. Seth levels his AK-47, the barrel steady as he frames his first shot.

A suppressed crack rings out from the rafters above. A heavy construction pipe, dislodged by a precise shot, plummeting downward and crushing the lead walker. A familiar figure in a weathered hat drops from the overhead ventilation shaft, a combat knife flashing in the dim light.

Carl

Carl

Keep your heads down! I’ll draw them into the side passage. Move!

Seth

Seth

The kid? He’s fast. Too fast to be here alone. If he creates that bottleneck, we can flank them before they even know what hit them.

Carl sprints past the stunned undead, his boots skidding on the damp concrete as he kicks a loose crate into the path of the encroaching swarm. The distraction works perfectly. The walkers turn, their focus shifting toward the noise and the agile youth. Seth pivots, his AK-47 steady, waiting for the cluster to tighten their formation.

Seth

Seth

Good lad. Let's finish this before the rest of the horde catches the scent.

But Carl gets bitten on the back by a zombie and can not be saved well trying to save Seth and Miller from a cornered tunnel he knows he's gonna die because he's infected and bitten he's scared we barely managed to gun down the heard of zombies that was pinning Us in the tunnel they were piled up we had to walk on courts is to get out of the tunnel we pulled Carl out and rested him against a nearby tree

The final walker drops with a heavy thud, its skull shattered by a final burst from the AK-47. The tunnel falls deathly silent, save for the ragged, desperate breathing of the survivors. Seth and Miller scramble over the gruesome carpet of bodies, hauling Carl into the light of the forest exit. They collapse him against the rough bark of a pine. Carl’s face is paper-white, sweat beading on his forehead as he grips his shoulder. A jagged, dark tear in his jacket reveals the unmistakable, bruised mark of a bite.

Carl

Carl

I... I did it, didn't I?

Seth

Seth

He shouldn't have been in there. He’s just a kid. I can dress the wound, but the infection... it’s already set in. There’s no coming back from this.

Miller

Miller

We can't leave him, Seth. There has to be something in the medical pack.

Seth

Seth

Miller doesn't understand. If I try to save him, I'm just prolonging the inevitable. But I can't let him go out scared.
