Confrontation at the Kingdom Gate

The Kingdom’s walls loom high, a fortress of repurposed sheet metal and wood that smells of pine needles and damp earth. Seth stands near the inner gate, his breathing ragged as he shifts the weight of his gear, his hands still trembling slightly from the trek.

I made it. Now to see if this place is as sturdy as the rumors suggest, or just another death trap waiting to snap shut.

A guard in makeshift riot gear approaches, his gaze lingering on the blood-stained mud caking Seth’s boots and jacket. He stops ten paces away, leveling a rusted but functional spear at Seth’s chest.

Guard

State your business, outsider. We don't take in strays who look like they’ve been dragged through a grave.

Seth

Seth

I'm not looking for trouble. I have supplies, I have survival skills, and I'm tired of running from monsters. I want to build something that lasts.

My friend miller explains we don't want any trouble we just want to be welcome in

Confrontation at the Kingdom Gate

Miller steps forward, hands held deliberately open and away from his belt. His voice is calm, steady, and devoid of the aggression that usually marks a traveler’s arrival.

Miller

Miller

Look, friend. We’ve seen enough blood to last a lifetime. We’re builders, not scavengers. We just want a gate that holds and a chance to prove we’re worth the space.

The guard’s posture softens. He lowers the spear tip just enough to acknowledge the shift in tone, his eyes flicking between Miller and the weary silhouette of Seth.

Seth

Seth

Miller’s smooth talk just bought us a lifeline. If the walls are as strong as they look, maybe we can stop fighting the dead long enough to actually build a life.

Guard

Guard

You’ve got a silver tongue, stranger. Not many people come to the Kingdom looking to do work instead of just taking. Wait here.

The guard reaches for the heavy iron latch of the gate, his fingers gripping the cold metal as he begins to pull.

Do you think sheriff Haynes made it here miller asked me I say I don't know I hope he's here he said he was going to find it for some help with the whispers a while back stella steps in and says maybe this place can be a home for us

Seth

I don't know, Miller. Haynes promised he was heading this way to recruit help against the Whisperers, but the road has a way of swallowing people whole. I just hope we find him on the other side of these walls.

Stella

Stella

It doesn't matter who we find, Seth. Look at this place. If we play our cards right, maybe this isn't just another stop. Maybe we can actually call this home.

Seth

Seth

She is right. If the Kingdom is as stable as it looks, I can finally stop running and start building. No more sleeping with one eye open. No more losing everything to the dead or the cultists.

The heavy iron groan of the gate intensifies as it slides inward, revealing a sliver of the bustling inner courtyard beyond. The guard watches with a wary but curious expression, his spear now held loosely at his side.

It always matters to see an old friend and be glad there still with us we gotta get you a new katana Stella

Seth

Miller, see that? It’s not just about walls. Seeing someone like Haynes still breathing out there, actually fighting for a future, it gives you a reason to keep your boots laced. And Stella, you’ve earned something better than that rusted blade you’ve been swinging. Once we’re inside, we find you a proper katana.

Miller

Miller

I like the sound of that, Seth. A good blade is worth more than gold in a place like this. Let's see if their armory is as well-stocked as their reputation suggests.

Seth

Seth

If they let us into the fold, I can stop being a ghost. I can be a leader. Maybe I can finally stop looking over my shoulder for the Whisperers and start building something that actually outlasts me.

The heavy iron gate creaks to a final stop, yawning wide to reveal the sun-drenched courtyard. The guard gestures for them to enter, his posture relaxing as the tension of the standoff dissolves into the mundane reality of survival.
