The rail depot sits under a low gray sky, weeds pushing through cracked ballast and rusted track. The open food truck hatch hangs crooked, and fresh tracks slice past the loading side into the grass.

Seth
The tracks are new. Someone was here, and they did not bother to hide it.
Miller freezes near the truck, scanning the railcars. Kaley raises a hand, pointing toward a dark gap between two boxcars where something shifts in the fog.

Kaley
Seth, tell me we are not walking into another trap.
A metal clatter rings out from the depot siding, then a second set of tracks appears in the mud, cutting away from the truck toward the old loading platform. Whatever moved here was carrying weight.

Miller
We either check the truck or we follow those tracks. But we do it now.
From beyond the railcars, a figure steps into view and stops cold, as if surprised to see them first.

“Miller yells freeze and ask them to state there business”
FAILURE (Good Intimidation, rolled -3)

Miller
Freeze. State your business.
The stranger stops with both hands half-raised, eyes flicking from Miller to Seth and then to the open truck hatch.

The Stranger
I am not here to fight. I heard metal moving and thought someone was stripping the depot.
Wind combs the weeds. The fresh tracks in the mud lead cleanly to the loading side, then veer off, as if whoever made them wanted to reach the truck and leave fast.

Kaley
Then why are you so interested in the truck?

The Stranger
Because the hatch is already open. That means I am not the only one who found it.
Miller shifts his rifle a fraction lower, not relaxing, just buying a better angle on the stranger and the boxcars behind him.

The Stranger
If you want the truth, look inside now. Before whoever is using this place comes back.
“Miller yells freeze and ask them what there doing”
SUCCESS (Good Intimidation, rolled +1)

Miller’s rifle stays up, but his voice cuts the depot like a siren. The stranger flinches and freezes in place, hands still high.

Miller
What are you doing here?
The stranger glances once at Seth, then at the truck hatch. His jaw tightens.

The Stranger
Trying not to get ambushed. Same as you.
Kaley edges closer to the truck, eyes narrowed. Seth gets the same hard fact everyone else does, the hatch is open for a reason, and somebody has been inside.

Seth
The mud tracks stop at the loading side, then break away fast.
A loose flap on the truck door swings wider in the wind, and a dark shape inside shifts just enough to catch the light.

The Stranger
If you want the depot, check the truck now. I am not the thing you should be worried about.
“He goes to say something then an arrow from a bow goes through the back of his head and comes out his eye as he starts studering with his words then drops dead. Seth yells to take cover”
SUCCESS (Legendary Tactics, rolled +1)

Seth starts to speak, but the warning dies before it clears his throat. A shaft slams into the stranger from behind, and the man folds sideways in a single ugly jerk.
He drops dead at the depot edge, his surprise turning the whole line of sight into a threat. Seth’s shout lands cleanly, sharp enough to cut through Miller’s breathing and Kaley’s focus.

Seth
Take cover!
Miller snaps his rifle toward the railcars. Kaley flinches away from the truck hatch and hunches low beside the bumper.
The truck’s open hatch bangs wider in the wind, and the dark shape inside is gone from the opening.
Fresh movement answers from the boxcars, a rustle and scrape from higher ground. Whoever fired has revealed themselves.
Seth is already forcing the others into cover while his eyes track the line of the shot, locking onto the railcar shadows.
“Where did it come from Seth says did you guys see it? Kayley says I can't see it's too foggy and miller says I see them there's at least 4 that I seen and he opens fire into the fog”
SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +1)

Fog swallows the rail line in dirty sheets. Seth catches a flicker between two boxcars, low and fast, then another shape shifting behind it.

Seth
Where did it come from? Did you guys see it?

Kaley
I can’t see, it’s too foggy!

Miller
I see them. At least four, maybe more.
Miller opens fire into the gray. Muzzle flashes punch holes in the fog, and one silhouette jerks sideways near the railcar wheels.
Seth’s blade hand lifts as he tracks the movement, and the line of fire exposes another figure crouched higher on the freight car ladder, bow already lowering out of sight.
Kaley stares toward the truck hatch, but the empty opening stays still. The depot edge, the rails, the shadows, all of it feels watched.
Then the fog shifts again, and something inside it answers Miller’s shots with a hard scrape from the boxcar roof.
“Seth says miller cover me I'll take point kaily come with me and watch my back she says I'm with you and we slowly move forth with are weapons ready and a whisper pops out of the side of us from the fog and attacks Kayley she gets stabbed in the side but miller quickly opened fire and drops the guy who stabbed her”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled -2)

Seth drives forward through the fog, taking the point with his blade hand low and his revolver ready. Kaley moves in tight behind him, eyes fixed on the shadows at his flank.

Seth
Miller, cover us. Kaley, stay on me and watch my back.

Kaley
I’m with you.
They advance three hard steps along the rails. Then a Whisperer bursts out of the mist at their side, knife first, and slams into Kaley before she can turn.
Kaley jerks with the hit, stumbling and clutching her side. Miller snaps his rifle up and fires point blank through the fogged shape, dropping the attacker where it stands.
The body folds into the gravel. In the spill of Miller’s muzzle flash, Seth catches a hard detail on the downed figure, a depot tag tied to the belt, marked with the same freight lot numbers as the truck.
Beyond them, the open truck hatch stays gaping and empty, but the tracks around it are fresh, cut through the mud like someone came and went in a hurry.
Kaley steadies herself against Seth, breathing sharp through the pain, while the fog keeps shifting around the railcars like more feet are still out there.
“Seth takes kayley to cover In a rail cart and I tell Miller to stay here with her and make sure she doesn't bleed out as Seth pushes forward he sees some whispers moving towards him so he crawls underneath one of the railcarts”
SUCCESS (Legendary Stealth, rolled -1)

Seth hauls Kaley into the nearest rail cart and lowers her behind the steel lip. Miller drops in beside her, rifle still up, eyes cutting the fog for movement.

Seth
Stay here with her. Keep pressure on that wound.
Miller gives one sharp nod and shifts his body between Kaley and the open tracks. Seth slips away from the cart and sinks low, vanishing into the mist by the wheels.
A pair of Whisperers drift into view ahead, moving too careful, too quiet. Seth spots them first, then folds down and slides under the railcart before they can catch his shape.
From beneath the car, he sees their boots pause in the gravel. One of them gestures toward the truck, and the other angles closer to the depot lane.
They are using the carts as cover, and they think the truck is still the prize.
Wedged in shadow under the chassis, Seth catches a glimpse of a fresh drag mark in the mud, leading away from the truck toward the far side of the depot.
Above him, the Whisperers stop almost directly over his hiding place, and one of them lowers their head as if listening for movement.
“One goes to check the truck the other one checks under the rail carts Seth quickly stabs him through the eye then the neck and pulls him underneath the rail cart with him to hide his body”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +1)

The Whisperer tilts toward the cart, listening. Seth strikes first, driving the blade through one eye and up into the skull before the body can jerk back.
He yanks the dying man down under the railcar in one brutal pull, swallowing the thud in gravel and shadow.
Above them, the second Whisperer mutters to the truck and starts away, never seeing the body vanish beneath the chassis.
Seth eases the corpse flat beside him, turning it into a dark shield against the wheels and fog.
The mud under the cart shows the fresh drag mark clearly now, cutting away from the truck toward the depot lane.

Seth
The truck was already worked over. This one came back for the carts.
Miller keeps his rifle trained outward while Kaley stays hunched behind the steel lip, breathing through the pain.
From the fog ahead, the second Whisperer stops and turns, head cocked, as if something under the cart has just gone wrong.
“Miller don't shoot unless you have to Seth says stay quiet”
SUCCESS (Legendary Tactics, rolled -1)

Seth keeps his blade low and his voice lower. Miller freezes with the rifle still aimed, then eases his finger off the trigger. Kaley swallows hard and presses herself flatter against the cart wall.

Seth
Miller, don't shoot unless you have to. Seth says stay quiet.
The whisper of his command carries just enough. Miller gives one tight nod and shifts his muzzle away from the cart mouth, holding his breath instead of his fire.
The watching Whisperer in the fog hesitates at the change. Its head turns, listening for the next mistake, while the mud track beside the truck remains freshly scored and obvious.
Seth angles the corpse under the railcar and slides the stolen body between rusted shadows, sealing the gap with a dark, still shape.
For one thin second, the depot goes quiet enough to hear rain ticking on metal. Then a faint scrape answers from the lane beyond the truck, as if something hidden has noticed the silence too.
Miller's eyes flick to Seth, waiting for the next move, while Kaley grips the cart edge and keeps staring at the truck.
“I sneak up behind the whisper and put him against the truck with my blade at his throat still filled with the blood from his friend and say in this world it's hunt or be hunted in a cold mean tone then I stab him through the gut and cut upward causing his guts to spill then I hear I gun click from behind me and he says where are your friends I'll kill you right now if I don't spill it”
SUCCESS (Legendary Stealth, rolled +0)

Seth slips out of the cart shadow and closes on the whisper from behind, using the truck’s rusted flank to hide the move. The figure never hears him coming.
Seth drives the blade in close and hard, pinning the Whisperer against the truck. The body jolts, then sags as the fight goes out of it.

Seth
In this world, it is hunt or be hunted.
He finishes it fast and steps back into the fog just as a gun clicks behind him.

Mara
Where are your friends? I kill you right now if you do not talk.
The gunman stays out of the haze, voice sharp and close, while the truck lane goes dead still again.
The truck is the next thing they came to inspect.
“Then kaley comes out of the fog behind her and shoots her through the back of the throat as she drops gasping for air choking on her own blood Kayley says you should have finished the job when you had the chance then let's one final shot to the bleeding girls skull”
SUCCESS (Superb Firearms, rolled +1)
The unseen gunman keeps the depot lane frozen. Then Kaley pushes out of the fog behind her, rifle braced in both hands.
She fires once. Mara jerks, drops her gun, and claws at her throat as blood darkens her fingers.

Seth
You should have finished it when you had the chance.
Kaley’s shot cracks again. Mara’s body goes still in the mud beside the truck.
Silence rushes in with the rain. The fog opens just enough to show the truck’s side panel, smeared, dented, and locked tight.

Seth
The truck is secure. The lane is not.

Miller
Move. Check the truck now, before whoever was with her comes back.
