The Devil's New Purpose

Wind slides over the dune crest and around the Obsidian Spires. The clean boundary mark gleams in the sand, and the red-tinged ash falls soft as dust. Annika Mal steps closer, leaving Annouso at the edge of earshot.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

You have held this nursery like a fortress. I want to know what it becomes now, when the fighting stops.

Huarti faces the open desert, then the glow below the spires. His long hands rest still at his sides, the black bead necklace catching a faint pulse of light.

Huarti

Huarti

It becomes a place where the young grow strong, and where loyalty is taught before fear takes root.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

That is not the answer of a raider. It is almost the answer of a keeper.

Annika studies him, less wary than before. Below them, the nursery hums on in steady warmth, and Annouso keeps his post without a word.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

Then tell me this, Huarti, when they look to you, what should they see first? Fear, or the shape of what you protect?

I answer, The outerspace Matriarch Black Dragon mother of morals "Morba" is who they will learn to serve. The harder they follow her will the more they will impress here and she controls all in the full grasp of it all.

Huarti

Huarti

The young serve Morba, the outerspace Matriarch Black Dragon. The harder they follow her will, the more they earn her regard. She holds the full grasp of it all.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

Morba. A name with weight. Not a cage, then, but a law.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

A matriarch, not a butcher. That is clearer than before.

Annika’s shoulders ease. She looks from Huarti to the glow beneath the spires, measuring the nursery as something with rules now, not only power.

Annouso

Annouso

If Morba is above the brood, then we guard more than a den. We guard a lineage.

Below them, the red brood-shield pulses once, as if answering the name. The ash continues to fall, soft and harmless over the boundary mark.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

Then tell me one thing more. When they look to Morba through you, what do you want them to learn first?

I answer, bravery

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -1)

Huarti

Huarti

Bravery. They learn to face the dark without bowing to it.

The words settle over the dune. Below, the brood-shield keeps its steady red pulse, and the ash haze parts in a thin veil across the boundary mark.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

That is a cleaner lesson than fear. Fear only teaches obedience.

Annouso

Annouso

And bravery can be guarded, taught, and tested. That is a ruler's craft.

Annika studies Huarti a moment longer, then gives a small nod toward the spires, as if re-seeing the nursery through his answer.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

So the brood is not meant to be soft. It is meant to stand.

A brief hush follows. The shield’s glow deep below seems to answer with a slower, steadier thrum, as if the line itself approves.

Annouso

Annouso

Then say where bravery begins, Huarti. In the hatchling, or in the hand that guards it?

I say, as they grow they themselves will be gaurdians and be tested, they must already experience being brave at a young age so thier first big quest of gaurding will not be intimidating

SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled +1)

The Devil's New Purpose

The dune holds its height as Huarti lets the answer land fully. The red pulse below keeps time like a patient heart.

Huarti

Huarti

As they grow, they are guardians already. They must know bravery young, so their first great watch does not feel impossible.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

That makes the fear smaller before it ever bites. You are not asking them to be soft, only ready.

Annouso

Annouso

Then the test is not cruelty. It is repetition, until standing becomes natural.

Annika’s shoulders ease. She looks from Huarti to the distant spires, as if measuring a nursery that trains steadiness instead of obedience.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

A child who learns to face the dark early may carry it better later.

Annouso

Annouso

And the guardian learns, too. To watch without making the watched afraid.

The brood-shield’s slow glow washes the sand in red. For a long moment, no one speaks, and the quiet feels chosen rather than forced.

I speak in green dragon "Hultxuh hull" which gives An the red dragon the ability to tune into the green dragon structure of the lands i embedded prior

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

The Devil's New Purpose

Huarti turns from the dune crest and speaks a low, layered phrase in green dragon, the sound threading through the sand like roots finding water.

The dune answers. Lines of hidden structure wake beneath the desert skin, and the red dragon An stills, head tilting as if hearing a distant bone-deep call.

An

An

...I can feel the land's pattern now. It is not empty beneath me.

A subtle red shimmer runs along An's scales as the embedded green lattice settles into him, fitting with a click of recognition instead of strain.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

You have tuned him to the place itself. He will know where the ground is sworn, and where it lies.

Annouso

Annouso

Then the boundary is not only watched, it is felt. That is a finer lock than iron.

Below the crest, the brood-shield keeps pulsing, but now its glow seems to carry through An as well, as if the desert and the dragon are sharing one breath.

I tell An you are now bound to rule and protect here

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -3)

The Devil's New Purpose

Huarti lowers his hand and lets the desert hush gather around the words he has already spoken. The red-green shimmer around An steadies, no longer wandering, but resting like a seal placed with care.

An

An

Then I accept the burden of this place. I will rule it, and protect it, as you command.

An bows his massive head. The pulse beneath the dune answers him in a deeper beat, as if the grounds themselves recognize the vow.

Annika Mal

Annika Mal

That is not a leash. It is a charge. He sounds it as though he understands the difference.

Annouso

Annouso

A guardian who knows what he guards is stronger than a gate alone.

An lifts his head again, slower now, his posture no longer only waiting for direction. The shimmer along his scales becomes a steady mark, visible even in the softened red light.

An

An

Tell me what is mine to watch first, lord. The brood, the boundary, or the paths beyond it?
