Binding the Desert Paths

The embers sink low, and the nomad circle leans over the hide map. The Nomad Envoy taps three unguarded passes, then the buried structure beneath the salt flats. "If your wardline reaches here, the road stays open," she says. "If not, the old thing wakes hungry."

Huarti feels the ancient wards beneath the desert, hard and old, waiting for a stronger claim.

We can keep the caravan fed and moving, but these passes need your seal, Devil. The structure below them needs a keeper, not a crack.

Huarti rises from his honored place. The gold wardline at his feet brightens, then stretches in a thin, deliberate arc toward the marked routes, as if testing the stone, the sand, and the buried law.

If you bind those roads, the nursery breathes easier too. Fewer eyes on the camp, fewer blades at the edge.

Then take it, Huarti. Let the desert know whose blood and word hold these paths.

Huarti lays one long hand over the map. The wardline answers, and a buried seam in the far dunes gives a faint gold pulse, like a locked mouth waiting to be named. The route to his next claim is clear.

Huarti lowers his palm to the hide map and lets the ward answer fully. Gold light spills outward in a broad, even ring, sliding over the marked passes and sinking into the buried structure beneath the salt flats.

The nomads fall quiet as the line thickens, then settles into the sand like a stamped decree. The open roads glow with a steady border of protection, and the hidden ruin takes the seal without a sound.

At the edge of the camp, a faint pulse answers from the far dunes, then another from the salt flats below, each one taking Huarti's claim and holding it in place.

It holds. The passes are bound, and the old thing below them is now under your word.

The road feels safer already. The caravan can breathe through here.

Awed, she watches the gold settle and seems to measure how far Huarti's reach can truly spread.

The wardline widens once more, then stills, spanning the camp's edge and the distant seam in one continuous law. From the dark beyond the firelight, something buried shifts in answer.
