The Binding Law of the Dunes

The Hooded Figure leads Huarti beyond the camp ring, where the firelight thins and the dunes move like sleeping backs. They pull their hood aside, and the same archive glyphs that marked the vellum now mark their face.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

These signs are not only record. They are caravan law, old as the Spires. The deeper rule ties shelter to witness, witness to protection, and protection to the road.

The wind hushes. In the sand ahead, pale lines answer the glyphs, faint as buried ink. Huarti can feel the chain of authority running from the nursery’s seal to the nomad oath.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

If the elders accept this rule, the road is not merely safe. It becomes part of your keeping, guarded by the nursery’s ancient law.

The rule binds road, camp, and Spires into one claim.

The figure kneels and presses the vellum to the sand. Gold light threads outward in a narrow path, pointing back toward the camp and forward into the desert, as if asking Huarti to choose whether the nomads are guests or bound allies under his law.

Protect the nomad camp

I tell them, i am not a leader, i am a fiend and that would lead them the wrong way. I am just a protector, my mother Ehahase is the creator of these realms. Ultimately, Ao is the finaly leader. Not me, a fiend

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -1)

Huarti answers with a low, steady presence, and the gold lines in the sand quiet under him.

I am not a leader. I am a fiend, and that would lead you wrong. I am only a protector. My mother, Ehahase, is the creator of these realms. In the end, Ao is the final authority, not me.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

The vow lands cleanly. He is refusing a crown even as the road bends to him.

The Hooded Figure

Then the rule is clearer than the vellum first showed. Protection answers to you, and your highest names answer above you.

The vellum brightens once, as if corrected, and a second thread of gold joins the first, linking camp, dune, and distant law without tightening into a chain.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

That mercy matters. A keeper who names limits can be trusted more than one who pretends to be everything.

The figure lowers the vellum from the sand and looks up, the hood shadowing their face while the camplight glows behind them.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

Shall I carry this as your protection to the elders, or as Ehahase's blessing first?

I say, do what your hear tell you

Do what your heart tells you. Take this as protection to the elders, and let Ehahase's blessing follow if it fits.

His word leaves room for judgment, not fear. That is rarer than command.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

Then I carry it in that order, with my own witness behind it.

The figure lifts the vellum higher, and the gold threads in the sand settle into a clean, open braid.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

You speak like a keeper, not a conqueror. That will matter to the elders.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

I am called Saffi. If the road holds, I will say that name beside yours.

Behind them, the campfire glow stays low and steady, while the dunes hold the new law in quiet gold.
