The Guardian of the Brood

Huarti crosses the threshold, and the tunnel breathes out a tide of herbal mist around his feet. The passage widens into a vast cavern lit by blue bioluminescence, every wall pulsing like a slow heartbeat.

Ahead, the central seal of the brood looms like a crystalline heart. It dims as Huarti enters, its defensive glare thinning to a watchful shimmer.

The resonance of the claimed name rolls through the chamber, deep and alive. The eggs' distant glow answers from the cavern depths, as if the brood itself hears him and turns toward the source.

From within the crystal structure, a shape stirs in blue light, not yet fully seen, but present in the pulse of the wards. The lair is no longer empty. Huarti has reached the center of the claim, and whatever guards the brood now meets him head-on.

Huarti lifts one hand, and red electricity crawls from his claws in thin, crackling threads.

The charge bites into the seal. Blue facets flare, then stutter dark.

A warded shape inside the crystal jerks hard in the flash, its outline snapping into view for a breath.

The herbal mist shivers outward, and the brood's glow trembles deeper in the cavern.

Huarti closes his fist, and the crystal answers his will. Blue facets swell, thickening into a heavier tomb of glass and stone around Earlise.

Runes crawl over the new shell in red, then sink inward like embers drowned in ice.

The cavern hushes as the seal settles. Herbal mist recoils from the surface and gathers at Huarti's ankles.

Inside the new tomb, Earlise stands trapped in clear view, no longer hidden by the flicker. The brood's glow pulses beyond, waiting.
