Shadow Striker lands light as ash, eyes flicking from Slaan to the witness. Far off, a chapel bell tolls over Mordkessle’s bone towers, and a frostwind threads the alley like a warning.

Shadow Striker

Shadow Striker

You walked straight into a city that loves secrets. Tell me why the Chapel wants this witness so badly.

The witness shifts under Slaan’s guard, pale breath smoking in the cold. At the alley mouth, bone-plated sentries gather in pairs, not rushing yet, just boxing in the streets.

We move first, or we get caged here.

If they take me, the purge reaches farther than the Chapel admits. I heard names, ledgers, and a route through Mordkessle.

That changes the shape of the hunt. The witness is not only cargo, but proof, and every step deeper into the city drags the Chapel’s fallout closer to open war.

Then I cover the roofline. You keep the witness alive and the trail clean. If the sentries close, I draw them off.

Slaan lifts a hand and lets the shadows gather, thin as smoke and twice as cold. The alley dims around her and the witness, their outlines blurring into a moving smear of dusk.

The weave holds.

She draws the witness close under the veil and starts them forward along the wall, feet soundless on frost and bone grit. Above, Shadow Striker shifts to keep pace on the rooftops.

I cannot see the street...

At the alley mouth, the sentries pause, their heads turning toward a fading trace that is already slipping away. One spear scrapes stone, but the pair do not commit.

Keep that veil tight. I am losing them from the roofline.

The hidden passage between leaning bone houses opens ahead, marked by a frost-crusted lintel and a shuttered door. Slaan reaches it with the witness intact, but the shadow veil costs her breath, and the edge of her vision prickles with strain.
