The chime rings out over the dead drop, bright and thin. From the dune line, chanting answers, closing fast. Bram snaps his head toward the horizon, and Kaelith shifts into a fighting stance.
Slaan tears the hidden item free from the seam. It is a narrow strip of vellum, marked with a fresh route and a warning sigil. The way out is no longer hidden, it is open, if she can reach it first.

I hold the rear. Get the records clear of the dunes.
Shapes appear on the ridge, Sun Eaters fanning out in hard lines. Slaan tucks the vellum away with the records, and the wind throws sand across their boots like a veil.

The route points south, away from the outpost.
Kaelith steps toward the chanting shapes, buying seconds. Bram motions Slaan toward the marked path, where the dunes dip into cover and the dead drop route finally points beyond the hunt.
