As Slaan turns from the resealed stone saint, the brush explodes with motion. Not a beast, not a stray sound, but a kill-team in High Chapel colors, fanning out in a practiced net.

The Paladin

The Paladin

Sun-Eaters. They send cleaners for their own stains.

The Paladin squares himself between Slaan and the hunters, his old branding suddenly plain in the torchless dark, a punishment from the same sect now hunting him twice over.

The Hooded Hunter

The Hooded Hunter

There he is. The oathbreaker. Take him first, the rest after.

Bram

So the sound in the brush was never wildlife. It was a coffin door opening.

Steel glints among the leaves. One cleaner raises a short blade slick with oil, another slips around the pedestal to cut off retreat, and the shrine path suddenly feels like a trap laid days ago.

Slaan

Slaan

The Paladin breathes once, hard, and shifts his grip toward the nearest throat-length gap in their line, ready to break the ambush before it closes.

Slaan melts into the thorn shadow beside the saint, then slips behind the Hooded Hunter as the line of cleaners turns inward. Her dagger finds the gap under his ribs, and his command breaks off in a wet gasp.

The Hooded Hunter

The Hooded Hunter

Behind me, now?

He twists too late. One hand claws for balance, the other flings his blade wide, and the nearest cleaner flinches at the sudden lurch in their center.

Slaan

Slaan

The line has a hole.

The Paladin drives into that opening, forcing the left flank back from Bram and the pedestal. Blood darkens Slaan’s dagger hilt, and a thorn cuts her sleeve as she slips free of the body.

Bram

Bram

Slaan, move!

The Hooded Hunter staggers to one knee but does not fall. Around him, the brush shakes with movement, and one cleaner rushes the saint path with a raised knife while the soot-marked passage waits behind them in the dark.

I sheath both daggers, do a quick spell to summon Shadow blades, shadow made posion tipped throwing daggers that dispell on hit and thow a set at the nearest kill team member

Slaan’s hands blur at her belt, and both throwing daggers vanish into shadow. Dark light gathers between her fingers, thinning into twin blade-shapes that drink the torchless air.

Slaan

Slaan

Shadow blades.

She snaps her arm forward. The nearest cleaner jerks as the first black dart cuts into him, and the second skims past his guard to burst in a smear of fading night.

The line buckles. One hunter stumbles back with his knife half-raised, staring at the wound as if it has gone cold inside him.

The Paladin

The Paladin

Push them! They are breaking!

Bram shifts hard to the side of the saint, clearing space as the brush thrashes behind the kill-team. Leaves whip up around the pedestal, and the soot-marked passage gapes in the dark beyond the fight.

Slaan draws the air tight in her palm, and the hooded hunter staggers as if an invisible hand closes on his throat. His retreat shout breaks into a ragged choke, then the shadow bolt slams into his chest in a burst of dark force.

The cleaner drops to one knee in the leaves, clutching at nothing. His blade dips, and the line behind him hesitates as the brush keeps surging on the right side of the pedestal.

The Paladin surges through the gap with his weapon high, forcing another hunter backward from the saint. Bram keeps low behind the pedestal, one hand out for balance, eyes fixed on the wavering formation.

The Hooded Hunter

The Hooded Hunter

Withdraw! Now!

The nearest cleaner turns to run, but the path is clogged with leaves and tangled brush. The dead drop stays exposed for one breath too long, then the hunters begin giving ground.

Slaan

Slaan

The front breaks.

Beyond the pedestal, the soot-marked passage gapes in the dark, while the disturbed brush on the right keeps moving as if something else is still there, watching the retreat.

Slaan flicks both wrists. Two shadow blades split off in a low, hard arc, skimming past the saint pedestal and into the Hooded Hunter before he can fully turn.

He jerks sideways with a sharp gasp, his retreat breaking again. The wound forces him back into the brush, and the line behind him falters under the sudden pressure.

The cost lands at once. A white sting bites through Slaan's forearm from the throw, and her remaining shadow flickers thin for a heartbeat.

The Paladin

The Paladin

Move. Now. He is giving ground.

Bram snatches at the pedestal edge and crouches lower, eyes on the soot-marked passage as the hunters recoil toward the trees.

The brush on the right surges again, louder than before, as if something inside it has been shoved awake by the spellfire.

Slaan plants her feet and throws again, this time in a tighter rhythm. Two shadow bolts split from her hands and lance straight for the wounded Hooded Hunter as he stumbles in the brush.

The first bolt catches him high in the shoulder and spins him sideways. The second drives him down into the leaves, ripping the last of the order from his retreat.

The hunters behind him break formation at once, crouching lower and dragging their wounded leader back toward the trees. Bram stays low beside the pedestal, watching the soot-marked passage while the right-side brush heaves again.

A shape inside the disturbed brush shoves forward, then stops, as if checking the line for an opening.

The Paladin

The Paladin

There. It is not retreating.

Bram

Bram

Slaan, keep them off the path. I am moving.

The saint pedestal stands between the open ground and the soot-marked passage, while the brush on the right twists with something still unseen.

I cast blind on one hunter and follow up with two more Shadow bolts

Slaan snaps her hands up and twists the spell sideways. A hard ribbon of darkness slams into the nearest hunter at the edge of the brush, washing over his face and eyes.

He reels blind into the leaves, arms flailing for the others. The line behind him stutters as two hunters duck hard, suddenly unsure where her next strike is coming from.

Slaan follows at once, hurling two shadow bolts in a tight, punishing rhythm. They streak past the pedestal and tear into the retreating knot of cloaks.

One bolt snaps a hunter backward into the brush. The other punches through the leaves with a flash of black light, and the group breaks wider, their footing lost.

The Paladin

Now. Press them off the path.

That blind spell bought us a gap. Move, before they find their shape again.

The right-side brush still churns, but the opening by the pedestal is clear for a breath, and the soot-marked passage waits just beyond it.

I slip into the shadows, draw my regular blades and backstab the hooded hunter

Slaan slips into the torn shadow beside the pedestal and vanishes from the hunters' sight. Her daggers come free in one smooth motion.

She appears behind the hooded hunter at the brush line and drives both blades in under the cloak. He jerks forward with a strangled gasp, dropping his grip.

The hunter folds into the leaves, clutching at the wound as his companions recoil from the blind side of the gap. The stealth takes, but a slash of his hood catches on her blade and tears free, flashing pale cloth in the open.

The Paladin

The Paladin

There. They break.

Bram

Bram

Move, now, before they spot the opening.

The wounded hunter scrambles backward into the brush, and the line hesitates just long enough for the soot-marked passage to stand clear.

Leaves whip across the pedestal as the hidden path threatens to close behind the retreating bodies, and the Paladin shifts to cover Slaan's flank.

I cheak the body of the hooded hunter for any evidence

Slaan drops to the hooded hunter’s side and cuts through cloak, belt, and satchel with quick, practiced hands.

Under the torn layers, she finds a chapel token, a folded strip of marked vellum, and a second cord tied with ash-gray thread.

The vellum carries a narrow route sketch, and beside it, a sunburst sign is scratched through with a hunter’s nail.

Slaan

Slaan

The mark is recent.

The Paladin keeps his shield turned toward the brush while Bram leans in just far enough to see what Slaan has taken.

Bram

Bram

That token is chapel work. Take the papers, leave nothing that ties us here.

Leaves whip harder across the pedestal, and the soot-marked passage gapes for a breath before the moving brush starts to hide it again.

"we'll down the hole or to rennon fields?" I ask, " we're close to rennon fields plus there is a temple to saint morlon, the dirty of the flaming Church, the confessors and templars would want to hear about this since the sun eaters are a sect of saint morlon"

Slaan rises with the vellum and token in hand, turning the choice over the dead drop like a blade. The wind shoves leaves through the opening, and the brush keeps shifting where the hunters vanished.

Slaan

Slaan

We go to Rennon Fields, or we take the tunnel. We are close to Rennon Fields, and Saint Morlon's temple is there. The confessors and templars should hear about the Sun-Eaters.

The Paladin

The Paladin

Then the surface road is the faster reach, if the woods stay quiet.

Bram

Bram

Rennon Fields leaves a trail. The tunnel leaves us blind.

The Paladin shifts his shield toward the trees, but his head tips in agreement. Bram snatches a last glance at the marked vellum, already weighing the route against the wind and the failing cover.

Bram

Bram

If Saint Morlon's temple still listens, that is where this belongs. The chapel cannot bury what two orders hear at once.

Behind them, the soot-marked passage blinks in and out as leaves drag past it, while the hunters in the brush stay unseen. The group has a direction now, but the trees still press close.

We look around for any other evidence before we leave.

Slaan turns from the papers and works the dead drop with her eyes, searching the stone saint, the leaf litter, the brush line. The wind keeps worrying the opening, but nothing obvious answers back.

Slaan

Slaan

The leaves are hiding the ground.

She crouches at the pedestal and parts the damp leaves. A faint scrape of something small and pale shows beneath them, but the gust flips the litter shut before she can see more.

Bram

Bram

If there was a mark left here, the wind has almost taken it.

The Paladin steps closer, shield angled toward the trees, and sweeps his gaze over the brush. His boot catches a second glint near the passage mouth, then the leaves tumble over it again.

The Paladin

The Paladin

There is something at the threshold, but I cannot get a clean look at it.

Slaan reaches for the disturbed patch, but the wind drives another sheet of leaves across her hand. By the time the ground settles, the hidden trace is buried again, and the brush holds its silence a moment too long.

" let's go"
