The wounded runner swallows hard, sand stuck to his lips. He glances at the ash-stained scrap in Slaan’s hand, then at Kaelith’s sword, and decides fear is cheaper than loyalty.

The Wounded Runner
The chain runs from a chapel clerk in Rennon Fields, to a Sun-Eater warden, then to the hunters. Kaelith’s name was fed in on purpose.
Bram’s grip tightens on his bow. Kaelith goes still, but the set of his shoulders changes, from defense to grim understanding.

The Wounded Runner
They wanted a baited road and a clean blame. Anyone marked by the route gets hunted. Anyone helping gets branded with him.

Slaan
The chapel’s hand reaches into the Sun-Eater network itself.
The runner jerks his chin toward the vellum scrap. One torn line is still legible, a place-name and a seal mark, enough to point Slaan toward the next Sun-Eater node. If she follows it, she can trace the frame and clear Kaelith before the High Chapel closes in.

“" who else knows of this" I look back at the other two watches timing how long the have with the poison still in their system”
SUCCESS (Great Reasoning, rolled -1)

Slaan
Who else knows of this?
Slaan cuts a glance toward the two bound watchers while she measures their slack limbs and the poison's drift. Their chests are still steady, but their fingers begin to twitch in the sand.
Less than a few breaths remain before one of them can roll free enough to call out. The runner hears that too, and goes pale.
Bram shifts his bow a handspan higher, watching the watchers instead of the horizon now.

The Wounded Runner
The clerk, the warden, the hunters. Maybe one more at each node, enough to keep the road fed. If they wake, they signal.
The runner's mouth works around a spit of blood and sand. He jerks his chin at the torn vellum in Slaan's hand, where the place-name sits beside a seal mark.
Kaelith takes one slow step closer, his face hardening as he reads the mark too. The wind drags grit across the route line, but the path is plain now.

“I cast blind and silence on the bound watchers”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)

Slaan lifts two fingers and the spell folds outward in a quiet wash. The bound watchers jerk as shadow takes their eyes and their throats, dimming sight and stealing sound.
One watcher thrashes once, then goes still, jaw working on nothing. The other blinks into blank darkness, mouth opening without a whisper.
The runner tries to push himself up, but the empty silence swallows even his breathy warning. Bram lowers his bow a fraction, still aimed, and watches for any sign of a signal that never comes.
Kaelith steps in beside the scarred route line, his gaze snapping from the ruined captives to the mark on the vellum. The seal and place-name sit clear now, plain enough to follow.

Kaelith
That is the node. The frame runs through here.
The wind scrapes grit over the opened brushline, but the watchers cannot call out, and the route remains readable in Slaan's hand. The group holds the truth, while the road stays dangerous and quiet.
