The second-floor records oversight office smells like old paper, dust, and hot ink. Rows of metal cabinets stand under buzzing fluorescents, and the open back room door throws a black rectangle across the floor.
Dallas Fontaine steps in with Clara and Murderbone at his back. The room is half-stripped already, Desk Nine’s drawer hanging open, its papers and routing stamps gone.

Dallas Fontaine
The drawer was cleaned fast. Too fast.
Clara freezes near the threshold, listening. Murderbone lowers his head and gives one hard warning growl toward the corridor.

Clerk
Hart’s people were here minutes ago. They went for the log, then the stairwell.
A key rattles somewhere down the hall. Footsteps, measured and unhurried, start toward the office. On the nearest cabinet, a routing stamp lies turned on its side, still wet.
Dallas sees the fresh ink, the open door, and the corridor beyond it. Whoever comes next knows exactly where to look.
“We silently take positions of advantage for when they open t gg e door myself being closest”
SUCCESS (Good Stealth, rolled +0)

Dallas eases to the doorframe and takes the blind side of it, revolver tucked low, body angled to catch the first rush. Clara slides back a step to cover the office interior, and Murderbone settles flat beside Dallas, blocking the narrow gap with his body.

Dallas Fontaine
The hinge noise will give them away before the lock does.
The corridor light flashes through the frosted glass in hard white bands. The clerk stops shaking long enough to shove a chair toward the filing aisle, as if trying to help without getting seen.

Clara
If they open that door, they get one chance. I’m ready.
Murderbone’s muzzle lifts toward the handle, silent now, every muscle coiled.
A shadow crosses the glass outside. The key in the hall turns, slow and deliberate, and the office goes still around Dallas’s breath.

Clerk
Hart’s man is coming. He always checks the left side first.
“I door not trust the clerk, but if he's right u will be good he will have his back against me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled -3)

Dallas shifts a half-step deeper into the doorframe, turning his shoulder to the hall and leaving only the barrel and his eyes where the first blade of light can catch them. The clerk’s chair scrapes once in the aisle, then settles.

Clara
Good. If he comes in, he gets Dallas first, not the folder.
Murderbone presses low against the threshold, braced and ready, while Dallas angles his revolver toward the latch and waits for the hinge to betray the movement.

Dallas Fontaine
Left side first. The clerk was right.
The key turns again, then stops. A man shifts outside the frosted glass, close enough to blur into a dark shoulder and hat brim. Dallas does not flinch, but the grip on his revolver tightens until his knuckles pale.

Clerk
That’s him. He checks the left side every time.
Dallas settles the muzzle to the seam, exactly where the door will open, and the chair in the aisle gives him a clean line if the intruder lunges past it. The office holds its breath, waiting for the next turn of the lock.
“I door not trust the clerk, but if he's right u will be good he will have his back against me.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled -1)

Dallas eases one step off the frame and lets the door take the angle. The revolver stays fixed on the seam, but his shoulder clears just enough to invite the first body through.
Clara lowers her hand and shifts her weight behind cover, eyes hard on the latch. Murderbone stays flat, ready to snap at the first ankle that crosses.
The key turns a final time. The frosted glass darkens with a shoulder, then a head, then the edge of a hat as the door starts inward.

Dallas Fontaine
He comes left, then commits right.
Dallas is already where he needs to be, square on the opening, with the chair line behind the threshold and no room to miss.

Clerk
There. Hart’s man.
The intruder pauses in the gap, back exposed to Dallas and his reach broken by the blocked aisle, while the office holds him in a clean, fatal crossing.
“With his back to me I take him to the ground. Murderbone at the ready.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +1)

Dallas drops low and drives through the intruder’s exposed side. The man slams into the filing aisle, hat skidding away as the chair shudders under the impact.
Murderbone lunges in on cue, teeth flashing near the man’s wrist, forcing the gun hand wide before it can find the floor.

Clerk
Now. Hold him down.
Clara breaks from cover, boots scraping the tiles as she closes on the doorway and kicks the fallen weapon farther from reach.

Dallas Fontaine
He came in blind. The hallway was giving him away.
Dallas lands on top, pinning shoulders and chest hard enough to stop the struggle cold. The intruder’s hat lies under the chair leg, and his face is mashed toward the floor.

Clara
Clear. He’s done moving.
The office settles into a hard, breathless quiet, with the open door still yawning to the corridor and Hart’s man trapped beneath Dallas’s weight.
“Ibsearch him and say "where is hart? "”
SUCCESS (Legendary Investigation, rolled +2)
Dallas rolls Hart’s man onto his side and pats fast, efficient circles over the coat and inner pockets. A folded slip, a bent keycard, and a ledger stub come free together.
The intruder’s breathing turns ragged. Under Dallas’s hand, he stops fighting and stares at the floor like he expects it to open.

Dallas Fontaine
Where is Hart?

Hart's Man
Second floor, records oversight. End office, by Desk Nine.
Clara snatches the ledger stub from Dallas’s hand and checks it once, her relief tightening into grim focus.

Clara
That matches the routing stamps. He’s not guessing.
Murderbone keeps the man’s wrist pinned while Dallas strips the bent keycard from the coat seam. The office door still stands open to the corridor, and the hall beyond feels too quiet.

Hart's Man
You want him, you go now. Before the cleanup comes back.
“I tell clara close the door and if this guy tries anything kill him. Murderbone and I head to records oversight”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)
