Trapped in the Service Spine

The bulkhead grinds wide. Dallas Fontaine and Murderbone step into a narrow junction of sweating pipes, dead cables, and black water on the floor. Behind them, steel shrieks as the archives door starts to give.

A red maintenance indicator flickers once, then dies. The junction stays blind, but the service spine ahead is marked by old chalk arrows and a fresh smear of boot mud leading left.

Dallas Fontaine

Dallas Fontaine

The mud is recent. Someone else used this route minutes ago.

Clara

Clara

Primary conduit should be past the left junction. If that door seals, we are boxed in.

The pipes suddenly rattle. Somewhere deeper in the spine, a relay clicks awake, and a hidden sprinkler head spits a single test burst, like the building itself is trying to mark their trail.

Murderbone

Murderbone

Wuff.

Murderbone plants himself at the rear, listening. Dallas has the log in hand, the spine ahead, and the exit somewhere beyond the maze. The route is clear now, if he can beat the security team and the system trying to flush him out.

✓ Quest Accepted

Collapse the junction tunnel

Jam the heavy pipe wrench into the junction's main pressure valve to trigger a collapse.

FAILURE (Legendary Strength, rolled -4)

Trapped in the Service Spine

Jam the heavy pipe wrench into the junction's main pressure valve to trigger a collapse.

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +0)

Trapped in the Service Spine

Dallas drives the pipe wrench into the main pressure valve and heaves. Metal bites, then locks. A hot hiss punches through the junction, and the nearest pipe shudders like it is about to split.

Water slams the floor in a sudden white sheet. The chalk arrows blur, the dead cables twitch under the spray, and the narrow left passage starts filling with steam.

Clara

Clara

That will seal the spine if the pressure holds. Move, Dallas.

Behind them, the breach at the archives door answers with a violent bang. The sound is closer now, but the flood is already crawling back through the junction like a trap sprung in reverse.

Dallas Fontaine

Dallas Fontaine

The valve is taking it. The route behind them is going to turn into a wash.

Murderbone

Murderbone

Wuff!

Murderbone snaps toward the rear passage, then back to Dallas, planted and ready as the hiss grows into a roar. The service spine ahead disappears into steam, and the pursuing team hits the flooded threshold just as the pressure gives out.

I grab Clara and push through the steam

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +3)

Trapped in the Service Spine

Dallas catches Clara by the coat and drives her through the steam pocket, using his shoulder like a shield. The hot blast tears past them as they cross the junction, and the left passage groans under the rising water.

Dallas Fontaine

Dallas Fontaine

Keep low, Clara. Move.

Clara stumbles, then finds her footing beside him, the routing log clutched tight as she clears the worst of the scalding spray. Murderbone holds the rear, teeth bared, forcing the pressure of the pursuit to stay back in the haze.

Clara

Clara

He got me through. The archive door is done for if they keep pushing.

A slab of plaster and wet dust blows out of the tunnel behind them. The sound of boots hits the flooded threshold, then splashes hard and breaks apart in the roar.

Murderbone

Murderbone

Wuff!

The left passage seals itself under the flood, water slapping up to the rim as steam hides the bend ahead. Clara spots a narrow maintenance ladder on the far side, half-lit by the dead red lamp, and points once, urgently.

I force the maintenance ladder and drop through

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -3)

Dallas plants a boot on the ladder rung and hauls himself up, metal biting through his glove as the frame shudders under his weight.

The rung gives a wet shriek, but he gets the next one, shoulder scraping brick, coat snagging on a bent bolt.

The bracket is about to go.

Below him, Clara braces at the flooded gap with the routing log held high, while Murderbone snaps once into the steam behind them.

Dallas kicks free at the lip and drops through the hatch shaft, landing hard on a lower catwalk with a splash.

A burst of water and loose plaster follows him down, and the ladder tears half loose from the wall with a clang that rings through the spine.

Clara

Clara

Dallas, the passage is giving way.

Far above, the maintenance junction groans under the flood, the rear breach coughing dust into the steam as the pursuit loses its clean line.
