Kalazan climbs back into the nursery tunnels, where the air turns damp and warm. Lanternlight catches stacked planks, fresh mortar, and coils of rope around the entrance. The Unseen Carpenter waits beside a half-built arch, hands dusted white.

An Unseen Carpenter
You found something worse than a crack, I take it?

Commander Korth
He did. And the seal does not want opening.
Kalazan spreads his necromantic tomes across a crate of stone chips. One page trembles faintly, as if it remembers the pulse below. The Carpenter leans in, but keeps clear of the books.

Kalazan
The nested lock is mechanical and magical together.

The Dark Arcana Caster
A baited layer. If the outer script yields, the inner lock may wake.
A deeper thud rolls through the nursery walls. Dust sifts from a beam, and the Carpenter glances toward the unfinished passage, then back to Kalazan, waiting for the next order.

Solve the nested lock
“Before we mess with the lock i grab a staff from my cabnets that buffs command arcana and good arcana”
SUCCESS (Superb Conjuration arcana, rolled -3)

Kalazan turns from the books and crosses to his cabinets. He pulls free a carved staff wrapped in warding thread, its runes flaring once in his grasp.

Kalazan
This one carries command work and clean arcana.
The staff answers his hold at once. Its tip hums low, and the air around the half-built arch tightens as if listening.

Commander Korth
Good. If the seal hears us, let it hear you first.

The Dark Arcana Caster
Careful. That tool wants to lead the spell, not just help it.
Kalazan sets the staff beside the tomes, and the nearest dust motes lift in a slow ring around the crate. The tremor below answers with a dull, distant knock.

An Unseen Carpenter
Tell me where to brace. If that arch shivers, I can keep it standing.
The lanterns gutter, then steady. Somewhere under the nursery floor, the seal pulses again, harder this time, as if something below has noticed the warded staff.

“I also put on several sets of cleric prayer beads i keep in a close to a window, stained glass cabinet”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +1)

Kalazan opens the stained glass cabinet and draws out several sets of cleric prayer beads, cool glass and polished bone clicking softly in his palms. He threads them over his horns and across his chest, one set after another, until the wards settle with a faint, sympathetic glow.
The air in the tunnel shifts at once. The tremor below steadies into a measured pulse, like something large breathing through stone.

Commander Korth
That looks like a proper answer. If the floor starts talking, I want yours louder.

The Dark Arcana Caster
There. The seal is reading him now. It is not resisting, it is listening.
Dust drifts down from the half-built archway, then swirls in a tight halo around the crate as the beads catch the lantern light. Beneath the floor, a hidden seam of runes flickers into view through the pulse, briefly exposing a second line of script no one had noticed.

Kalazan
The prayer beads match the warding pattern under the crate.

An Unseen Carpenter
I can brace the arch, but if that seal opens, say it before it does. I would rather be ready than clever.
The new pulse drives a shallow crack of blue light across the floorstones, pointing deeper beneath the nursery tunnel. The crate hums in reply, and something below gives one sharp, answering thud.

Commander Korth
Name your next order, Kalazan. Do we lift the crate, or break the floor?
