The Dark Arcana Caster
There. The trace is fresh, and it wants to be followed.
They step into the blue-gold line and chant under their breath. The stair answers at once, the stone walls rippling like dark water around the glowing path.

Commander Korth
Careful. That thing could be leading us into a trap.
Kalazan watches from behind as the black shard on the floor hums in sympathy. The light on the thread deepens, drawing a thin line toward the upper bend.

The Hooded Stranger
Or it could be leading you exactly where you need to go.
Korth tightens his grip on his blade, but does not advance. The Hooded Stranger only smiles wider, as if the passage has already chosen its prey.

Kalazan
The thread is pulling toward the stair ahead.
The Dark Arcana Caster’s chant quickens, and a second pulse rolls through the passage. Dust lifts from the steps, then settles in a neat trail pointing deeper inside.

Follow the glowing thread
“I follow the glowing thread”
SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled +2)

Kalazan follows the blue-gold thread as it climbs the stair, and the glowing line bends around the upper turn like a guide laid by a patient hand.
The rippling stone parts its illusion for him. A narrow landing opens above, and the thread spills across it, brighter here, as if pleased to be found.

Kalazan
The path is marked by old magic.

The Dark Arcana Caster
It recognizes you, or something in your blood.

Commander Korth
Good. Then keep moving, and tell us where it leads.
Kalazan steps onto the landing. Beneath the glow, a seam in the wall reveals a hidden door, its outline traced in faint sigils and dust.

The Hooded Stranger
There it is. The stair was never the prize, only the invitation.
The thread gathers at the door's edge, then dips through the crack, leaving a soft blue-gold pulse on the stone as if waiting for Kalazan to choose the next handhold.

Open the hidden door
“I open the door”
FAILURE (Good Arcana, rolled -2)

Kalazan grips the hidden door and pulls. The sigils flare once, cold and bright, then the seam shudders with a grinding refusal.
A thin seam of blue light splits wider, but not into an opening. It becomes a ward line across the door, and the stone answers with a low, warning hum.

The Dark Arcana Caster
Careful. It is keyed to movement, not force.

Commander Korth
Then stop touching it and let me see the lock.

The Hooded Stranger
No lock, Commander. A test. Something wants a bearer, not a burglar.
The glowing path trembles, then splits into two faint branches, one fading down the stair, the other sinking through the wall beside the door.

The Dark Arcana Caster
There, the shard trace is no longer inside the door. It is beyond it. We are facing a decoy threshold.
Dust slides from the sigils as the ward settles. The hidden door stays shut, but a second outline appears in the stone lower on the wall, narrow and nearly flush, as if the real entrance has slid aside in silence.
“I ask the dark caster what he want to do”
SUCCESS (Superb Reasoning, rolled +0)

Kalazan
What do you want to do with it?

The Dark Arcana Caster
I want the shard's true anchor. If the passage is hidden, I trace what hides it and peel the spell back.

Commander Korth
Then do it fast. I do not like wards that wait.

The Hooded Stranger
Bold. But if the door is a decoy, the real prize is where the magic points when it is frightened.

The Dark Arcana Caster
The lower outline is the answer. The path is feeding it from beneath the wall.
The caster kneels by the narrow seam and lifts the black shard. Blue-gold light threads from the floor into the stone, then gathers beneath the lower outline like breath under a mask.
With a soft stone click, the narrow door releases inward. Dust spills out in a pale ribbon, and the ward hum dies at once.
Beyond the opening waits a cramped, hidden chamber lined with old sigils and a single iron lever set into the far wall. Fresh footprints in dust lead straight to it.
