Unit Captain Brann
Get back from the edge, Kalazan. Those shadows are not just mountain mist.
Unit Captain Brann lunges forward, slamming the butt of his spear against the stone causeway to anchor himself against the gale.

Kalazan
The wind carries a scent of wet fur and ozone that has no business being this high up.

Unit Captain Brann
They are scaling the cliff face. Pale Moon tribe, if I am not mistaken. They have found a way to bypass the main gate defenses.
A jagged shape detaches from the gray rock above, plummeting toward the bridge with silent, calculated grace.

Unit Captain Brann
Defend the bridge. If they touch the gate, we lose the hold.

Defend the bridge from the Pale Moon tribe
“I summon savage skeleton crows to attack them”
SUCCESS (Legendary Conjuration arcana, rolled +3)

Kalazan
The air thickens with arcane potential as the shadows close the distance.
Kalazan slams the base of his staff against the stone. With a command that tears through the howling wind, dark energy coils around the wood, erupting into a vortex of void energy.
Six skeletal crows manifest instantly, their hollow eye sockets burning with cold violet light. They shriek, a sound like grinding metal, before launching themselves into the mist.

Unit Captain Brann
By the ancients. Look at them tear into the Pale Moon scouts!
The crows intercept the falling figures mid-air. Bone claws shred fur and leather, forcing the descending warriors to tumble away from the bridge and plunge into the abyss below.

Unit Captain Brann
They are falling, but more are climbing up from the lower crags. We have bought a moment, Kalazan, but they are not retreating.
“I summon a second volley of crows”
SUCCESS (Legendary Conjuration arcana, rolled +1)

Kalazan
The mana flows freely, but the pale moon scavengers cling to the stone like ticks.
Kalazan thrusts his palm toward the gray sky, veins of violet light spider-webbing across his dark fur as he weaves the incantation.
A second, larger caw erupts from the void. A dozen more skeletal crows tear through the fabric of the mist, their wings silent and heavy.

Unit Captain Brann
Their formation is breaking, Kalazan. The swarm is forcing them to drop their climb.
The crows dive-bomb the wall, pinning the lead cat-man against the rock, forcing his grip to slip. He falls, but as he tumbles, his hand snatches a glowing, blue-tinted scroll from a hidden crevice in the cliff wall.

Unit Captain Brann
He grabbed the schematic, sir. If he hits the ravine floor with that, we lose the path to the armory for good.
“I cast fumbling finger on the catman with the scroll”
SUCCESS (Legendary Conjuration arcana, rolled -1)

Kalazan flickers his fingers in a sharp, complex gesture, his arcane focus locking onto the falling cat-man.

Kalazan
That parchment will not vanish into the ravine today.
The cat-man's grip slackens instantly. His fingers go numb and stiff, forced open by the unseen weight of the spell.

Unit Captain Brann
It is falling free! Watch the wind, it is drifting toward the ledge!
The scroll dances on an updraft, tumbling through the mist, before catching on a jagged stone protrusion just twenty feet below the causeway.

Unit Captain Brann
I can reach it if you hold the line, Kalazan. Give me the word!

“I cast teleport item the scroll to my hands”
SUCCESS (Legendary Conjuration arcana, rolled -1)

Kalazan raises his staff, the black wood humming with cold, arcane energy. He focuses his will upon the blue parchment fluttering against the jagged stone below.

Kalazan
The sigils are etched in star-metal ink. They will not remain lost to the abyss.
The air around the cliffside warps. With a sharp crack, the scroll vanishes from the rock face and manifests instantly in Kalazan's outstretched palm.

Unit Captain Brann
Well done, Commander. The Pale Moon dogs would have traded their lives just to see that schematic burn.

Unit Captain Brann
Look there. The teleportation flash has drawn their eyes. They are abandoning the climb to regroup near the lower cavern.
The scroll pulses against Kalazan's skin, revealing a hidden map layer that glows with a faint, pulsing crimson light. Brann steps closer, his gaze hardening as he points toward the dark expanse of the woods.
