Confrontation in the Frozen Vault

Kalazan follows the skeletal guardian into the frost-rimed passage, one hand lifted as if to steady the air itself. The narrow seam widens ahead, and wet breathing drifts back from the dark chamber beyond.

Ice beads along the stone. Commander Korth keeps close behind Kalazan, blade ready, while the Dark Arcana Caster stares past the guardian toward the chamber mouth.

Something is down there. It knows we are coming.

The skeletal guardian steps into the circular room and stops hard. Its bones scrape against the floor as a shadow shifts in the far corner, low and wary.

Give the word, Kalazan. I can rush the corner or hold here.

The chamber is wider than the passage, and the breathing is coming from the right.

A slick shape stirs in the gloom, then pulls back out of sight, as if measuring the group through the dark. The frost on the floor cracks with a soft, unnatural tick.

Confrontation in the Frozen Vault

Kalazan draws the dark shapes of a ward in the air. His spell snaps shut around the presence in the room, and the frost on the floor freezes into a clean ring around it.

The thing in the corner jerks hard, suddenly pinned by invisible force. Its outline surges into view through a sheet of pale light, no longer free to retreat into shadow.

You bind too quickly, surface king.

Commander Korth shifts his footing, ready to strike, but holds at Kalazan’s restraint. The Dark Arcana Caster lowers one hand, eyes brightening at the traced magic in the air.

That seal, it is not simple restraint. It is feeding from the chamber itself.

A thin crust of ice crawls across a buried seam in the stone behind the trapped entity. The hidden wall hisses once, then answers with a low grind.

Kalazan, the seal is holding it. Do you want me to open the seam, or keep weapons on it?

The frost-rimed passage beyond the chamber trembles as the sealed room exhales a colder draft, and the newly exposed seam begins to part wider.
