Chains of Peace and Intent

Thadeus surges onto the upper balcony, blue light rippling along the Peacebringer in his hand. Broken pews and scorched dust crowd the chamber below, but the path to Elizabeth is open.

Elias holds the flank at the balcony rail, peering into the shadows for any sign of another Revenant guard. None come. The chamber feels like a sealed room waiting to snap shut.

Thadeus reaches the front row of velvet seats, now only a few steps from Elizabeth. The confrontation narrows to one choice, stop her here, or let the ultimatum swallow him and the city with it.

Thadeus brings the Peacebringer down hard, but the chamber flashes white and throws his strike wide of Elizabeth's chest.

She moves with a blur, the Holy Cross still arcing past her shoulder, safe and useless behind her.

Thadeus drives through the recoil anyway, forcing the weapon down again as Elizabeth lifts one hand.

A brutal wave slams into him and sends him skidding across the floor into a row of chairs.

Wood splinters, metal shrieks, and his head cracks the wall hard enough to blur the balcony lights.

Elias lunges forward at the rail, Holy Cross raised, but hesitates when Elizabeth squares up to him too.

Elias hits the deck as the blast rips over him, and the balcony rail rattles from the shock.

Thadeus pushes up through the wreckage, Peacebringer biting blue in his grip, and surges straight at Elizabeth.

He drives the weapon upward in one hard arc, catching her in the upper thigh and splitting the dress with a white-hot flare.

Elizabeth jerks sideways and crashes to the floor, one hand slamming down to catch herself while the other scrabbles for balance.

A scorched strip marks the stone by her fall, and the blue glow from the Peacebringer flickers across the broken chairs.

Elias rises from the deck, Holy Cross ready, staring at Elizabeth as her guard breaks for the first time.

Elias bolts for the stairwell, shoes skidding through ash. His retreat pulls the flank open, and the chamber suddenly feels wider, meaner.

Elizabeth surges up from the floor, dress torn and eyes wild. She swings hard for Thadeus's ribs, but he steps cleanly past the arc, keeping his blade between them.

The Peacebringer catches on the rail as he turns, blue light flaring across her face. A sharp scrape rings out, and the cut on her leg forces her weight onto the bad side.

Below, Elias's footsteps vanish into the stairwell. Above the broken chairs and scorched stone, Thadeus holds the line alone while Elizabeth resets her stance, knife-quick and furious.

Thadeus changes the angle of the whip in one smooth snap, and Elizabeth throws herself sideways, too late to recover her balance.

The Peacebringer lashes back the other way and bites into her upper thigh. Her torn dress flares, her knee buckles, and she drops hard onto the scorched stone.

She plants one hand to push up, but the wound drags her back down. Broken chairs rattle as she skids against the floor, breathing sharp through clenched teeth.

The blue glow from the whip paints the rail and her face in hard light. The balcony above feels suddenly too high for her, the chamber too open.

She stays low, one leg folded under her, eyes up and wary now, forced into a defensive crouch as Thadeus holds the upper ground.

Thadeus eases off the balcony rail and closes the distance, slow and deliberate. Elizabeth stays where she is, blood dark on her thigh, her hands hovering instead of striking.

The blue light from the Peacebringer catches the fear in her face. For once, she does not smile through it.

Thadeus stops within arm’s reach, reading the wound, the tremor in her breathing, the way she keeps one shoulder turned toward the chamber below.

Her voice comes tighter on the last word. The room stays broken around them, but the fight narrows to a breath, a stare, and the Holy Cross waiting somewhere below.

Thadeus lowers himself to the floor beside her, Peacebringer resting across his knees. The glow paints both of them in hard blue and dull red, like the chamber cannot decide what it is keeping.

Elizabeth looks away at once. Color rises in her face, and the old poise slips into something smaller, more tired. Her hand tightens on the stone instead of reaching for him.

The words hang between them. Above, broken chairs creak under the settling heat, and the scorched floor gives off a faint bitter smell from the fight.

Thadeus stays seated, close enough to see the tremor in her jaw. Elizabeth finally turns her eyes back to him, fearful but direct, as if deciding whether honesty is a wound or a mercy.
