Two weeks of hiding have taught Thadeus the room’s rhythms, the rattle of pipes, the tick of an old fridge. The Peacebringer lies on the table beside him, half-shadowed, its handle worked with unsettling care.

Thadeus Jovanović

The handle is hand-finished, newer than the rest of it.

A hard knock hits the steel door, then again, precise and insistent. The sound carries through the cramped space like a warning bell.

Marla

Marla

Thadeus, someone’s out there. That is not a normal knock.

Marla stays back from the door, phone lit in one hand, eyes fixed on the seam where a thin line of hallway light leaks in. The Peacebringer remains within arm’s reach, sudden and impossible to ignore.

The Leader

The Leader

Open up. We know you have it, and we need to talk now.

The voice outside is controlled, but tight with anger. Whatever Revenant knows, the search has reached Thadeus’s door. If he answers, he risks being found. If he stays silent, they may force their way in and take the choice from him.

Protect the Peacebringer

Thadeus directs Marla away from the door to the back of the apartment, asking her to start recording with her phone. Thadeus, holding Peacebringer tightly in his hand, opens the front door.

Thadeus guides Marla back from the door with a quiet gesture, putting himself between her and the steel panel.

Marla

Marla

I’m recording. Just open it.

She slips toward the back of the room, phone up, while Thadeus closes his fingers around the Peacebringer and reaches for the latch.

The door swings inward under his hand, revealing the hallway light and the tense shape waiting just beyond it.

The Leader

The Leader

There you are. Hand it over, and nobody gets hurt.

Thadeus holds the weapon low and steady in plain view, blocking the threshold with his body as he measures the man at the door.

The Leader

The Leader

You’ve got ten seconds to decide who this belongs to.

Protect the Peacebringer

With a commanding voice, Thadeus tells the leader that we can talk, or he can leave before Thadeus makes him leave.

We can talk, or you can leave before I make you leave.

The Leader

The Leader

...You always were better at the stare than the speeches.

The words land. The Leader’s shoulders loosen a fraction, and his hand drops away from the doorframe instead of reaching in.

Marla

Marla

Thadeus, keep him talking. I am still recording.

Hallway light cuts across the room, catching the Peacebringer in Thadeus’s grip while the threshold stays his.

The Leader

The Leader

Two weeks, and you hide out here like ghosts. I came for what was promised, not a fight.

For the first time, he does not push forward. He waits just outside the room, furious but listening.

The Leader

The Leader

So, are we talking, or are you telling me why this weapon matters so much to you?

Thadeus holds out Peacebringer, showing that the whip is glowing with a dark blue light. Thadeus looks back to the leader, "Do you see the power this whip holds?"

Thadeus eases the Peacebringer out where the hallway can see it. Dark blue light wakes along the whip, cool and steady in his hand.

Do you see the power this whip holds?

The Leader

The Leader

His eyes fix on the glow, and the fight goes out of his face by degrees.

The Leader

The Leader

I see it. I also see why people would kill for it.

Marla lowers her phone a little, still recording, her attention moving from the doorway to the weapon and back again.

Marla

Marla

That is not a trophy. That is a warning.

The Leader

The Leader

Then tell me what it warns about. Because that thing is not supposed to be just a story.

The blue light steadies in Thadeus’s grip, bright enough to pull the Leader’s gaze fully into the room while he waits for an answer.

Thadeus states, "This weapon has the ability to sense and destroy evil forces. When I held it out to you, it emanates that blue light. Why do you, someone with clear evil intent, desire this whip?"

SUCCESS (Great Diplomacy, rolled +1)

Thadeus lets the glow sit between them like evidence. The Leader’s jaw tightens, then eases as the blue light seems to answer his attention.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

This weapon senses evil and turns on it. When I aimed it your way, it lit up. Why do you want it?

The Leader

The Leader

He stares at the whip, and the answer lands in his face before his words do.

The Leader

The Leader

Because I want proof I am not already what it hates. Because people keep telling me I am the problem, and I need something that can say otherwise.

Marla stills with her phone raised. The room feels smaller, the hallway light thinner, as if the door is listening too.

Marla

Marla

Then say that plainly. Stop coming at this like a thief and talk like a person.

The Leader

The Leader

I used anger because it is faster than shame. I came here for the whip, yes, but not to abuse it. I need to know what kind of warning it is carrying.

The Leader takes one slow step back from the threshold and opens his hands, empty and visible. The blue glow stays steady in Thadeus’s grip, and for the first time the man in the hall looks less like a threat than a man asking to be judged honestly.

Thadeus, emphasizing his point, cracks the whip against the wall near the leader, blue flame jumping off the wall. Thadeus declares, "Go back to your organization with a message - you will not possess this weapon, for any reason. "

Thadeus snaps the Peacebringer across the wall beside the doorway. Blue fire cracks out in a hard, bright lash, and the hallway answer is instant silence.

The Leader

The Leader

Enough. I see it.

The Leader flinches back from the flash, then steadies himself, eyes locked on the weapon instead of the room.

Go back to your organization with a message. You will not possess this weapon, for any reason.

The Leader

The Leader

Then I will take the warning with me. No one at my door is getting this tonight.

Marla lowers her phone a fraction, still recording. The blue glow crawls over Thadeus’s hand and the open doorframe, making the threshold feel sealed by the threat itself.

The Leader

The Leader

I am leaving. Keep it, but if that thing points at the wrong people, I want to know first.
