Slaan, Kynes, and Bren arrive at the western cairn’s broken threshold. The stone doors lie in splintered slabs, and a cold draft spills out, sharp with ozone and old dust.

Inside, the passage opens into a lower archive hall, half-buried in shadow. Lean shelves, cracked lecterns, and a blackened floor ring a central pit where faint light still crawls over the stone.

Kynes

Kynes

This breach is fresh. The vault is not dormant, it is waking.

Bren

Bren

No footsteps. Good. Whatever did this, it wants silence.

Kynes kneels by the shattered seal, fingers hovering over a scatter of dust and chipped rune-stone. Bren shifts to the side, watching the dark mouth of the hall.

Slaan

Slaan

The damage spreads inward, not outward.

From deeper in the archive, something answers with a soft, hungry vibration, and the shadows along the shelves seem to lean toward it.

Slaan

You know, if I were a large thing and someone fractured me, I would be furious too.

Slaan’s words slip into the dust and come back changed. The crawled light over the floor tightens, then shivers across the cracked lecterns as if something beneath the stone has turned its head.

Kynes

Kynes

It heard that.

Bren

Bren

Of course it did. You just poked the wound.

Kynes straightens from the shattered seal, a thin smear of violet residue catching on two fingers where he touched the rune dust. He holds it up, grimacing at the stain.

Kynes

Kynes

Intent is a key here. Even sympathy can be a knock at the door.

Bren half-smiles despite herself, then angles her body toward the dark opening, listening. The low vibration in the hall answers Slaan’s voice with a deeper, steadier thrum.

Bren

Bren

Then maybe it has a shape we can name. That’s better than a ghost in the walls.

" Oi come here" I say in shadowtounge

Slaan

Oi. Come here.

The Shadowtongue syllables land like a hooked chain. The floor-light flares once, then pulls inward toward the dark opening, as if the hall itself is answering.

Kynes

Kynes

There. It is listening to focus, not noise.

A shape gathers in the mouth of the passage, not a body yet, only pressure and a dim, folded outline where the crawling light refuses to reach. Dust lifts around it in a slow ring.

Bren

Bren

Good. Something that wants to be named can be cornered.

Kynes lowers his stained hand, violet residue still bright on his fingertips, and studies the forming outline with a scholar's unease. The pulsing rune on the floor steadies, holding the hall in a tense, listening hush.

Kynes

Kynes

If it answers you in that tongue, we learn its shape. If it comes closer, we learn its limits.

Stop the breach from worsening

" come here I say" I tell the entity in shadowtounge, as I stop my foot.

Slaan

Come here, I say.

Slaan stamps her foot. The rune-light answers at once, drawing tight and bright as if hooked by the order itself.

The folded shape at the passage mouth unfolds and drifts forward, obeying. Dust streams behind it in a thin wake.

Kynes

Kynes

It is not a beast, it is a presence taking shape from summons and attention.

Violet residue still stains Kynes's fingertips as he turns them slightly, seeing the stain against the light. Bren edges back half a step, eyes locked on the moving shadow.

The thing reaches the threshold and the outline resolves into a cloaked humanoid form with no face showing, only a hollow dark where features should be.

Bren

Bren

That is what broke the seal.

The hall goes still around the stranger, and the floor-light holds its steadier pulse, waiting for Slaan's next word.

Is that figure the entity

NO (VeryLikely, rolled 90)

Slaan studies the hollow dark beneath the hood, but the figure remains unresponsive to her command. It is merely a lingering echo of the vault's own defensive magic, not the entity itself.

"annnd you are" I ask the figure.." because I was not expecting tall dark and creepy."

Slaan

And you are...?

The cloaked shape does not answer. It only tilts, like a reflection lagging behind a move it cannot finish.

Slaan's words skim off it. The figure is a mask the vault has worn, not a person with a name to give.

Kynes

Kynes

The residue on the floor answers more than the face does.

Violet dust clings in a narrow trail from the passage mouth to the seal scar, as if something was pulled here by intent, not footsteps.

Bren

Bren

So that is the breach. Not a body, a trace. Something used the hall and left its skin behind.

The hood darkens, and for one beat the outline inside it resolves into a ring of runes before fraying again. The answer is not a who, but a how.

Do I know what this being is

NO (Likely, rolled 87)

Slaan searches her memory for any lore regarding such a shifting, runic echo, but the entity remains an enigma. No ancient text or arcane study provides a name or origin for the hollow, flickering shape.

I study the violet residue again, with out touching it

Kynes

Slaan lowers her gaze to the violet trace without touching it. The dust catches the floor-light in thin, branching threads, and the pattern is not random, it repeats like a thought made visible.

Slaan

Slaan

It is a path, not spillage.

The residue bends around the seal scar, then thins toward the passage mouth, as if something intent-shaped crossed the hall and left its attention behind.

Kynes

Kynes

Intent leaves a trail here. Not hands, not feet.

Bren shifts her stance, eyes fixed on the violet line, while Slaan sees the answer settle into place. The breach was not forced by a body in armor or claws in stone, but by a presence that moved through focused purpose.

Bren

Bren

So something came through the vault's own listening, and left this mark behind.

The hall feels suddenly smaller. The residue glows faintly along the floor, marking the exact route of the breach, and all three now understand the danger is not a broken door, but a thing that knows how to be sought.
