The coin’s violet glow pins the buyer in the corridor like a nail through shadow. Dust drifts past their frozen hands, drawn toward the open door behind Slaan.

Kynes steps in behind her, eyes hard on the trapped figure. Nhal’s outline flickers in the dark, their gaze fixed on the hum building in the buyer’s chest.

Slaan

Slaan

This is the source.

The Buyer

The Buyer

You have found me too soon.

The resonance around the buyer shivers, and a strand of violet light leaks from their coat sleeve toward the floor, like a path being tested.

Kynes

Kynes

Slaan, hold them. If they move, they may pull the trail shut.

Nhal

Nhal

They are tied into the memories. Cut the buyer loose, and we may lose the way to the one who taught them.

The corridor ahead opens into deeper black, and the glowing strand points forward, toward the hidden maker behind the theft and the parasite.

Break the buyer's violet hold

" I don't have to do anything, one of these stunned archimage Ioulaum for a week once because he pissed someone off. I doubt this guy's going anywhere." I say plainly

Slaan lets the silence sit, flat and certain. The violet bind around the buyer tightens under the coin’s command, and the corridor seems to listen with her.

Slaan

Slaan

I do not need to rush this. I have pinned stronger mages than you before.

The buyer’s shoulders sink by a fraction. Their frozen hand twitches, then stills, and the strand of violet light stays hooked to the dark ahead.

The Buyer

The Buyer

...Then you know I can be made to wait.

Kynes

Kynes

Good. Let the fear do the work.

Nhal

Nhal

They are listening now. Not to us, to the path. That is the shape of them.

Dust drifts through the open door behind Slaan. The buyer swallows against the spell, trapped and small beneath the violet glow, while the hidden passage keeps offering its dark, patient direction.

I take my dagger that has a skyblue sparkle to it and slice the buyers hand " see my blade is coated with a toxin. Deadly to mortals and it is the most profound feeling of joy a void-kin would have both cases you die... Speak and I give the antidote." I say with an assassin's edge.

Slaan’s dagger flashes up, sky-blue spark catching the violet wash as she turns the blade toward the buyer’s hand. The point kisses skin, just enough to promise pain, and the corridor goes very still.

Slaan

Slaan

My blade is coated with toxin. Deadly to mortals, and ruinous to void-kin. Speak, and I give the antidote.

A red bead wells where the steel bites. The buyer hisses through their teeth, and the violet tether shivers under the strain.

The Buyer

The Buyer

You would bluff with that face?...

Kynes

Kynes

That is not a bluffing face.

The Buyer

The Buyer

Fine. The maker is not in this hall. I only carried the route, I did not cut it.

Nhal

Nhal

So the line points onward, and their part in it was only the hand that delivered.

The buyer’s breath trembles, then steadies. Violet light loosens a fraction around their wrist, but the bind still holds them fast, and the open passage waits in the dark ahead.

I poke him again with the dagger. "And."

Slaan’s second jab makes the buyer flinch hard enough to tug the violet tether taut. The corridor rings with a sharp little scrape of steel, and the threatened pause breaks.

Slaan

Slaan

And.

The Buyer

The Buyer

And what? The name you want is not mine to hand over. I only carried the route for the one below the hall.

Kynes

Kynes

They are still lying by omission, but the thread is real. This is the first honest piece they have given us.

The buyer’s wrist twists against the glow, and for an instant the hood slips back far enough to show the edge of a pale, silver-marked cheek. Not a disguise, then, but a face finally dragged into view.

Nhal

Nhal

The maker is being hidden with intent. The path was stored, not wandered into.

The violet bind still holds, but the buyer’s breathing turns ragged, and a bead of blood drops from Slaan’s blade onto the stone, bright against the frozen light. The dark passage ahead seems to wait for a decision.

With the dagger I poke."and your leaving stuff out" I pause " times running out, I can still give you the antidote"

Slaan lowers the dagger just enough to make the promise feel measured, not merciful. The violet bind tightens around the buyer’s wrist as if it, too, is listening.

Slaan

Slaan

And your leaving things out... I pause. Time is running out. I can still give you the antidote.

The buyer’s head snaps toward the blade, then toward Slaan’s free hand, weighing which threat is worse.

The Buyer

The Buyer

You would use that as leverage? Clever. Cruel, too.

A shiver runs through the violet light. At last, the buyer exhales and names the shape of the truth.

The Buyer

The Buyer

The one below the hall is called Master Hest. He keeps the route, and I only carried what he gave me.

Nhal

Nhal

So the trail had a hand behind it, and a name.

The buyer’s shoulders sag, but the hold does not break. Blood still glints on the stone, and the dark passage beyond waits for what Slaan does with the name.

" oh theirs nothing on my blades, most mortals east of the anderfel mountains know what true mythril looks like" I leave him their stunned. " I'll leave you here though in case your lying and I need to lay hands on you." I put a repellent ward around him. " Now only I can get to you."

Slaan flicks two fingers through the air, and the ward blooms in a tight violet ring around the buyer’s boots. The corridor seems to pull away from them at once, as if the stone itself has decided where they are allowed to stand.

Slaan

Slaan

There is nothing on my blades that most mortals east of the Anderfel Mountains would not recognize. I leave you stunned, just in case you are lying.

The buyer jerks as the repellent edge bites home. Their shadow skids back from the threshold, held inside a small, unwilling circle. A drop of blood slips from their hand and darkens the floor beside the violet trail.

Slaan

Slaan

Now only I can get to you.

The ward settles, humming low around the buyer like an invisible fence. Silver heat pricks at Slaan’s fingertips from the casting, and the old stain on the merchant’s counter flashes in her memory for a beat before fading.

The Buyer

The Buyer

You think that makes you safer than me? Master Hest does not leave loose ends for long.

Nhal watches the circle take hold, then glances toward the darker passage ahead. The buyer remains pinned inside the new boundary, but their words hang in the air like a fresh threat.

I turn to leave. " You might still be useful is the only reason you still breath." I leave. " Bye" I wave

Slaan turns away from the circle at once, her lifted hand giving the buyer a small, careless wave as she starts for the corridor. The violet ward holds tight behind her.

Slaan

Slaan

You might still be useful, which is the only reason you still breathe. Bye.

Her silver-burned fingertips flare with a brief sting as she lowers her hand. The buyer’s jaw tightens inside the light, but their feet do not move.

The Buyer

The Buyer

Walk away, then. Master Hest will know you came.

Nhal’s gaze flicks from the trapped figure to the darker passage, then back to Slaan. The blood drop on the stone gleams once in the ward’s violet glow.

Slaan reaches the corridor mouth, leaving the buyer boxed in the circle. Behind her, the ward hums on, and the buyer’s hidden face stays half-lost under the hood.

" it's a blood bond ward, he moves from that area, he dies" I say coldly

It is a blood bond ward. If he moves from that area, he dies.

The words land cold in the hall. The violet circle tightens around the Buyer like a warning made visible, and the blood drop beside it seems to darken against the stone.

The Buyer

The Buyer

Then keep your distance, mage. I am not the one choosing how this ends.

Nhal goes still at the corridor edge, gaze fixed on the circle. The hidden passage beyond waits in silence, while the Buyer remains boxed in light, forced to measure every breath.

Slaan’s silver-burned fingers glint faintly as she stands between the ward and the dark way ahead. The trapped figure does not step, does not slip, does not dare test the boundary.

The Buyer

The Buyer

If you want answers, you will have to take them from me here.

Let's go find hest" I tell Kynes and nhal

Kynes

Then we move now. No more lingering in the open.

Nhal

Nhal

The hall feels different when the decision is made.

Slaan lowers her burned hand and turns from the ward. The violet ring keeps its grip on the Buyer behind her, while the dark passage ahead seems to draw breath.

Kynes steps in beside her, and Nhal follows after a beat, cloak whispering over stone. The trapped figure’s voice stays behind them, sharp but distant.

They cross the threshold together. The corridor narrows at once, and the warded light from behind thins to a dim violet seam at the edge of vision.

Then the hall changes. The line of light fractures, the Buyer’s hold stays back in the previous chamber, and the passage ahead belongs to Hest now, if he is brave enough to answer.
